Please Note: That in order to have a diagnosis of PoTs, your standing Heart Rate must stay raised over 120 bpm+ or over 30 bpm, for at least 30 seconds! X

Hi! I'm 14 and my resting heart rate is 84. I stood up and in a few minutes it went up to 144, and sometimes it's accompanied with lightheadedness and my vision goes black. Should I be worried?
@VintageRayne

I did this, just for giggles tbh I Have an “under the table” POTS, hEDS, & MCAS diagnosis but nothing on paper because my insurance won’t cover any testing. For this test. It started at 88. Which is a bit high for my usual resting. Peaked at 134. So 46 BPM increase. It stayed like that until I laid down bc I was feeling faint. This morning, getting out of bed caused me to jump from 60 BPM resting to 187. That was 8-9 AM. 9-10 am I was at 169-181. 10-11 AM was at 74-139. 11 am-12 pm I was at 60-124. All I did all morning was lay on the sofa watching my iPad. Used the bathroom a couple times. Let the dog out a couple times. I’ve racked up a lot of cardio workouts on my Apple Watch for someone unable to even do most yoga anymore. 😂

The worst thing about this is that about a year ago long story short, the female paramedic said I should stop using those oximeters because ‘using them is probably what’s causing my heart rate to fluctuate from worrying’. The male paramedic was actually really patient with me but having her say that really didn’t help me feel reassured because I feel like I’d already been constantly medically gaslighted. Anyway, so the story- I started getting worse symptoms and feeling like I kept getting breathless and palpitations/dizziness so I got an oximeter. When laying down, my bpm was getting as low as 54 and standing up I can’t remember the number but it was definitely up by more than 30bpm. In the end I called 111 for advice because it kept dropping when all I was doing was sitting and they sent me an ambulance. They came and checked my heart rate etc, didn’t find anything (of course not, it wasn’t long enough) and left me feeling once again like it was ‘all just in my head’. Fast forward to last month and weeks/months leading up, going for different lung tests etc (those made me really lightheaded and if I wasn’t sitting I’m sure I’d have passed out) those came back normal. Last month I had a pre syncope episode when I was just standing in my own flat, I went to urgent care the next day and finally someone seemed to mention PoTS as a potential, since then I’ve been mostly bed bound and trying to build myself up again and I did get a walking stick which was really difficult to accept that I NEEDED one at first, but it is actually such a blessing, it even helps me get a seat much better than my please offer me a seat badge even though I need it just the same 🤦🏼‍♀️ I fainted once on the tube almost 10 years ago, I didn’t remember falling to the ground. Since then I get a seat. So many things I unconsciously do to manage the lightheadedness. Getting up slowly, slow to wake up etc, temperature management. I’m still waiting for the tests to be done and there’s a huge backlog apparently which doesn’t help considering it’s meant to be an ‘urgent’ referral, but if one doctor said PoTS just from measuring my bp sitting and standing then I’m treating as such. I just really hope I get answers soon, and if it’s not PoTS then find out what ever else is going on.

Great video, Stela! 💗 I’d also add (for your viewers), that the 30+bpm increase (or hr over 120bpm) has to last for over 30 seconds to indicate POTS! It’s normal to have a big hr increase during the first 30 seconds upon standing, so people don’t need to worry if they see that *unless* it continues for more than 30 seconds! 😊 xx

I tried the Poor mans tilt table test, mine only increased 16 beats.. I stood for 5 minutes and it didn't increase anymore, it only went up to 86 and then went back down to 79, the only time mine really goes over 100 is when I am either sick or I eat, anytime I eat it goes over 100.... I am so sorry you have this, it would freak me out.. My heart rate got up high like that when I had covid, it was like 127 whenever I moved at all and that made my anxiety go through the roof... You just seem so calm and collected.. Good luck to you hun.. I hope someday they fond a cure for POTS...

So interesting! Your HR really did jump! Sometimes that's my active HR during an active walk or yoga flow.. so it's wild to see you have it raise like that. I have pretty bad anxiety so mine does jump up sometimes.. mostly changes with my thoughts or what I eat.

My body has a hard time regulating itself and it’s also pretty common to have PoTS in EDS. It’s very normal for anyones HR to jump up during exercise, or during periods of anxiety. But mine happens every time I stand, or even if I’m in a car. 😫 It’s just one of the many reasons why I use a wheelchair. Thanks so much for watching! I hope you’ve had a lovely Wednesday 💕

I recently first heard about POTS and when I started reading and watching videos on it I was shocked at how many of the symptoms I had. I always thought they were normal, but now that I’m looking into it I see that it very much is not. I’m getting heart rate reader tomorrow to see if maybe I should talk to a doctor about it

I don't think I've ever laid still or stood still for any long point of time. When I was younger I used to get head rushes all the time followed by headaches. And still today I can try standing up after watching a movie and have to sit right back down or I'll fall on my face. That's not just a feeling it's almost happened throughout my life.

i HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR A DIAGNOSIS FOR YEARS. After recent heart surgery, my symptoms doubled down. PoTS? YES. My heart rate did a 75 to 138 in the hospital upon standing. I get dizzy and vomit. Now of course after vomiting they said it was because I am dehydrated but now, I realize that as my heart rate increases my blood pressure decreases until I start to fade out. Lots of reasons, maybe but it is pretty persistent, Cool 72 degree river water is my best curative. I kept saying this was happening,It was ignored, now I have film of my ekg while I stood. The o2 monitor lets me know how high, and how fast

I have mild iron deficiency anemia and a mild folate (B9) deficiency as well. When I lay down my heart rate was 53 bpm and when I stood up I got so many presyncope symptoms so i couldn't see what my bpm was at but when I could see, it was at 115 bpm. It goes down slowly over time but doesn't ever go under 90 bpm when i stand pretty much. I don't have tachycardia when i sit up or lay down, only when i stand or move, is that POTS or is that still from my deficiencies? Because I don't think it's normal for my bpm to go up 62 bpm from just standing even if i have some deficiencies.. :/ idk what to think please answer. My hr only increases in certain moments like for example, when i stand, shower, after eating etc.
@ErinWilke
@ErinWilke 5 месяцев назад
53 is very low. It's generally a sign you are at a very low weight, a runner/athlete, or that your anemia has worsened significantly. Is it 53 at any time of day or in the morning before water/food? When I was a hospital tech I would generally only see heart rates

Hi Stela! Thanks so much for this video. My hr increases roughly 25 bpm upon standing but drops back to normal within a minute. I am afraid it I meet the criteria for pots, other than that I am diagnosed with general anxiety disorder so increased hr is also a symptom of that.

I tried the "poor man's pots test" and these were my results - **Heart rate after ten minutes of laying down:** 60 bpm - **Heart rate about 20 seconds after standing up:** 104 bpm - **Heart rate after one minute of standing:** 84 bpm - **Heart rate remains 84 bpm up to five minutes, then 80 bpm after ten minutes** Do u think I might have it? Seems like if I do it might be on the lower end of the spectrum.

For me, laying down was 89, immediately on standing 123, 10 minutes and near fainting it settled on 144 for like 9 of the 10 minutes. I have hEDS and they think POTS. Is this something a service dog can help with?

@jessicalingo4346 2 месяца назад
I've seen multiple videos on RU-vid where service animals can be trained to be cardiac alert service animals (warning ahead of time before a fainting episode) but fair warning the service animal can get to be incredibly expensive! Anywhere from 7,000 to 60,000 usd. So as much as it would be awesome to have it would depend on costs
