In this Video I show you how to test the Thermistors on your Samsung Refrigerator. If you are having issues with the temperatures inside your fridge compartment or freezer compartment not matching what you have them set on, this could be your issue.
The thermistors change in resistance value as the temperature changes inside your refrigerator. This is how the control board can read what the actual temperature is inside your machine.
This Samsung refrigerator has six thermistors inside to read temps from all around the unit.
One is outside the cooling compartments, above the fridge door hinge. This sensor reads the ambient air temp.
Two are inside the fridge section. One controls the inside temperature and the other controls the defrost heater.
There are three inside the freezer compartment. One is in the Ice maker, another controls the freezer temperature and the last one controls the freezer defrost heater.
Here is a link to purchase a new thermistor for your Samsung Fridge.

Hey bro. You have solved my problem . I was looking for this 3rd sensor white wires . I was unable to locate it but never mind I will just cut them in PCB and put it somewhere in external refrigerator body

Hey Bill, my freezer wont get down to the right temp. I was thinking about replacing the freezer thermistor. Where is the right one located in the freezer? I also think this has something to do with why my ice maker wont work. But I definitely need to get the freezer fixed!

NTC Thermistors have a negative temperature coefficient. They are all rated at 25C. So a 5K ohm NTC thermistor will decrease in value as it's temperature rises and conversely increase in resistance as it's temperature decreases. You do get PTC devices but they are less commonly used in my observation.

I have a Samsung RF4287HA refrigerator/freezer that stopped cooling/freezing. I noticed that the freezer temperature is reading -25, it is set at -2 but the actual temperature is 70 degrees. After watching your video I think it might be the freezer Thermistor. What do you think?

@Bill Newberry Love your channel, a true liver saver! Have a Samsung RB215LASH which is freezing items in the refrigerator compartment. Would love to see a video troubleshooting. If not, additional tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Have checked the compartment and ambient thermistor (thanks to your video), all within specs. So, maybe an electrical assemble board replacement? Additional ideas?

So we don't have to take the thermistor off.? Question my wiring is different my freezer is ylw/gry. The yellow is on cn40/5 (cn40 pin 5) the grey is cn50/5. So 2 separate "plugs". Grey is ground. So I'd unplugg both cn40 and cn50 from the board and test at cn40/5 and cn50/5...? Also does it matter which wires my probes go on...? Same idea as yours just your brn wire is on the same plug as the freezer wire. Thanks A LOT

Great video sir really enjoy your channel! I do have a question please! I pulled out the freezer temperature sensor in my Samsung side by side freezer and checked the resistance which seems fine. My question is do I still need to do the cold water test that I see in different videos also? I only checked at room temperature and did get the correct reading? Our fresh food side temp is fine freezer not cooling as well as it use to we have melted ice cream and no ice being made. Thank you Bill have a wondeful day. Paul

If you are referring to the defrost thermostat, I usually put it in a freezer for a few minutes or a glass of icewater. You should NOT get a reading at room temperature. If you are referring to the thermistor, disregard the above statement.

Are all of the sensors the same? Is the ambient air sensor the same as the defrost sensor, and the one in the ice maker? My kids broke off the one in our lower ice maker, but we don't use that ice maker anyway. When there's a power outage, I have to short the wires to get the fridge through POST testing, but that's been the only problem. Now my variable speed compressor isn't working, and missing that sensor confuses the whole situation. Samsung doesn't list any details on that particular sensor, and only sell it with the whole ice maker unit for over $100. I want to either put a new sensor in the existing ice maker, or figure out how to jumper it to delete the ice maker altogether, without confusing the computer. Any suggestions?

my Samsung rs21jgrs. heater not stopping on long enough. After removing brand new back cover with new modified kit fitted. The top half of heater is melted bottom half frozen. was having this problem before replacing the heater, sensors the modified back. still freezing up. have checked pcb components they all in order. The only thing i couldn't check was the main processor unit on board. would that be the cause of my problem.

My defrost sensor read about 5560K at about 71 deg and my pantry sensor read about 5720K at just a bit lower then 71 deg (the panel was still cool). Does this sound about right? The heater is working. I think the issue may have been the fact that it had never been leveled properly. Thanks...

I have very old samsung fridge freezer. Confused with one of the sensors which has 4 wire and it's in the fridge section. colour is white. How do I check it's working ? Is the value correct Resistance is 0c = 26kohms and at room temperature 12k Ohms O both sensors. Defrost and fridge sensor. One with 4 wire white sensor>>one pair got resistance 12-26k Ohms and 2nd pair at 0 degree C R=986R at room tentative R=986R Any idea how to replace them with 2 wire sensor as I could not find 4 wire sensor in the market ?

Bill, regarding a Samsung refr with "twin cooling." Setting the refr temp to lowest setting of 34* the digital readout stays at about 34* but a thermometer placed in refr shows around 40 - 42.* If I push "power cool" the digital readout drops to about 24 - 26* while a thermometer on the lowest shelf drops to 34 - 36.* I would like a consistent 38.* Is there a method to recalibrate the refr controls to get the proper temp? The freezer works fine at about 4.* Thanks.

Have the same problem with same frig. Judging by what Bill said, i think its the frig temp. sensor thermistor. Did he respond to you?
@Principle80
@Principle80 6 лет назад
Mine is the same way, but if you place the thermometer near where the fridge temp sensor is, then its probably pretty close to what the fridge says it is. At least mine is. So the issue with mine is that the sensor is near the bottom of the compartment. I have a "4 door" where there are 4 independent compartments, two doors and two drawers on the bottom. So in my fridge door the sensor is right above the crisper drawer at the bottom. So the bottom is the coolest of course since heat rises. The fan does blow air up to the higher levels, but it cuts out I guess when the sensor on the bottom says so. I can tell the fan works by holding in the light button so it thinks the door is closed, takes a minute to kick on. I intend to relocate the sensor, by cutting the wires and soldering in a couple feet of thicker lower gauge wire (lower resistance) since its likely calibrated to the existing wire gauge/length to the sensor. And then I may need to tape over the vents on the bottom if it gets too cold there, but I intend to set it at 40F, if I can actually get 40F all over. Then I don't mind the bottom being 37 or something like that. As it is, I set it to 36, and I get 43-45 everywhere but the back of the bottom shelf near the sensor.

777th like! And Im learning a lot I didnt really want to know about a Samsung but hey, Im learning and it applies eleswhere. First I learned I should probably not take a fridge to a carwash and blast it out. Water gets where it shouldnt! OMG** (INSERT CURSES SELF HERE). Second, due to the knowledge gained from this video, a black fridge in the back of a black truck, in the sun will not operate as wished, hence ambient sensor. I have disconnected every possible connector, removed board and dried it all out. The board on bottom didnt get wet because I didnt power blast the rear, but the top one did get wet a bit. The sun and starter fluid (which is probably not recommended but dries fast) made it all dry. As for now the freezer does not cool but that fan runs, the frig gets slightly cool but its fan does not run. The compressor is slightly warm and kinda buzzes and its fan works. So Im going to unplug it (20min) to reset it now that its cool tonight, plug it back in and see how it reads in the morning. Then apply what your putting down here. Thanks.

my samsung model rs263tdp/xaa has an evaporator on the fridge and freezer sides, the coils both get cold, but the evap fan wont come on the refrigerator side. I manually tested the fan and its good,. the thermistor was 4 kilo ohms at ambient and 10 kilo ohms at 32 F. Does the temp sensor thermistor signal the control board to turn on the fan? and is my thermistor bad? thanks

Your video gets a "B" from me for the following reason: Your chart values allow for a 5% variation and not exceed acceptable values. Plus I really need to interpolate to get a precise ohm value for temperatures not listed in the chart. Providing a linear equation for ohm vs temperature would be nice for those unable to derive it. Also, 5% seems small to warrant replacement. Hell my ohm meter could be off by 5%. Overall, I think it's a good video.

Return it and buy a different refrigerator. I can't even begin to tell you how much time and money I have spent trying to get mine to work correctly. Between paying "professionals" to come out, and swapping out parts myself- that is the best advise you could get. Don't believe me? Just google the model number.

Buy a 5kohm NTC thermistor at any electronic spares supplier. They cost under 1 dollar. Solder it onto the wires and heatshrink wires individually and then heatshring it overall. That's it. Repair yourself for under a dollar. They are all rated at 25C temperature. Convert to F if you're American.

!!!Warning!! When checking for ohms turn of the unit. If you dont and you accidently make contact with the mother boarth with swet you will ruin a perfectly good board. Your meter can also get Ruined by puting the probs in a life(electrified) output(wire). Make sure to inspect the board after working on it. Good luck guys.

Good Morning , I have a Kenmore pro 40140483800, I am getting NO power to compressor at all. I replaced 3 computer boards: Samsung Main Control board, SAMSUNG REFRIGERATOR ELECTRONIC CONTROL BOARD DA41-00316D, and SAMSUNG REFRIGERATOR ELECTRONIC CONTROL BOARD DA41-00316D, Overload protection relay, Clean condensor. But still no getting power to compressor. I checked but NOT replaced any of the 3 the 3 bimetal sensors in the unit: Freezer part =37.5 ohms Refrigerator part: 95 ohms Unit Part: 88 ohms A Sears tech came out to look at it and could not fixed it. Then I called a second Tech, o clue either. Any help will be highly appreciated
