Great video! I hope you are still out there and can answer a question. I have a Maytag medc465hw0 dryer and unlike the rest of my permanent houseguests, I clean the lint filter out regularly. Recently, I noticed lint was not collecting on the filter which worries me. I took apart the back and cleaned out what I could see, and in addition, I tried to clean the vent system that goes up through the roof (I had my 12-year-old grandson help as my hands are too big). What has to be replaced to get the lint blowing back onto the filter? And thanks for showing me how to take apart the piece that collects the sunflower seeds. My permanent houseguest has also scattered sunflower seeds inside the washer and dryer. I am 74 and still repairing things I need to! patsy

Thank you very much. I needed a refresher cause it’s not something I do every day. My water cooler isn’t cooling. Last time it was the thermostat. Fingers crossed the compressor isn’t shot. Appreciate your video.

All my glass top burners are not working but the oven turns on and the clock is working. Is that normally a burner switch issue?

Great tips, but you missed one. If all the burners do not ignite and the gas is flowing. Check your power cord is not disconnected. And you need to push back the power cord to restore electricity power 😂

Hi Bill. Thanks for the interesting video. But I have a question. My Whirlpool WB360ME has an issue. The techy bypassed the heating pipes as there was a leak somewhere in the walls of the fridge. Now, it keeps it's gas. Only, it doesnt get cold as it use to. The thermostat dial has 1 to 7 on it. At normally, we run on 3-4 to get nice comfortable cold temp. But now, at 4, it gives us about 13°C and on setting 7, it gives us 6°C in the fridge section. We have tried the test of turning to max leave for 10mins, then turn back down to setting 3.. the compressor does turn off. Compressor tuns somewhat hit to touch, around 36-48°C. But we are not getting that icy cold as below... Is this a sign of a faulty thermostat? The techy says it has enough gas and still holding it.. no leaks. Advise? Must I do the multimeter test on it? Thanks in advance. Michael

@EdOvercash Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I have a Kenmore dryer that is at least 30 years old. The heat went out at the last minute yesterday before we had company coming for the weekend. I was about to order a new heating element today for about $60 when I came across this video. I remembered that the last time the heat was working, I was drying some new sheets which resulted in the vent screen being very clogged. I checked the safety thermostat as directed with my meter and found that it had tripped. I reset the thermostat as shown in this video. It took about five tries before my meter showed that it was reset. I had my dryer fixed and ready for company in very short order without ordering any new parts. Thanks again for this valuable information.

Thanks! Great video! My fridge was dead and had a busted start relay (well, PTC and protector assembly). After replacing it shows 1.47 amps after startup but calms down to 1.35a and runs fine for 3 mins when you hook up power. Then it shuts off and it appears the compressor protection is tripping. I looked it up and the trip rating for the recommended protection and it was 1.09 amps (70c). Is there a restriction here, or is the compressor simply wearing out? It is 15 years old. I assume loss of charge would make it run easier, but understand wear and constriction makes it run at higher amps.

Your video was excellent for the clear sequence on how to take the dryer apart to get at the rollers (or any other componenents, for that matter). Best advice I ever got (from local appliance parts store owner that was run out of business long ago by the big boys) was to buy a parafin based lubricant with a Zoom spout (Supco MO-98 Turbine Oil). It is still available everywhere, and I'm sure has saved me thousands of dollars over the last 35 years. Oh, yeah, once I got down to the rollers, all 5 were nice and tight but just a bit dry - hence the squeaking. Two drops on each shaft, and the dryer purrs quietly again. This oil is a must for anything with sleave bearings. The trick is to use it as soon as you hear a squeak.

Thanks for sharing! My compressor was running, thicking and quiet warm. Freezer was working well, but in the refridgerator was not cooling and no airflow inside it from vents. When getting the trays out of the freezer, I noticed it was frozen and clogged up, the lowest tray I couldn't even remove due stuck frozen and all water around frozen blocking all airvents. So the clogged up ice in the freezer prevented the airflow from the freezer to the fridge, preventing cooling. This all due I dind't defrost the freezer in a long time.. oops! Not very good for the effective cooling of the fridge and the freezer itself and more working for the compressor I guess. Hope this helps someone!

It is unusual for a relay to fail like this. Unless it was the bad apple of relays. I tested mine 2023 and was still working properly. However, now 2024 I think I might have the problem described here. Note, my relay has been in service for about 17 years before experiencing the symptoms described here. This Samsung was a headache for me. First service bill of $200 occurred when the refrigerator reached 2 years of service.

a little bit confused...when you do the increase or decrease of the temperature, the + or - numbers stay there and automatically adjusts the temperature to the temperature shown? Or does it reset the temperature that is shown to the correct temperature?

Thank you! I watched your video, took apart the dryer, measured the belt (93in) looked up the part number and it's listed 92 in. I realize over the years it stretched. So when putting it back together after watching your video I would have doubted myself if I had not watched the pulley and over the motor shaft part. You gave extremely clear visual on how to put everything back together. I hope 9 years after making this video you are still checking your comments 🤘🏽

I have a direct drive washer I am repairing for my son. It started out with the drum not draining and unable to rotate the drum by hand. Found and cleared a major obstruction in the pump. While checking the clutch and brake, I found that I cannot move the clutch at all. Your video shows your none weak fingers moving the clutch. Mine wont move at all when trying the move it by pushing on the spring. I can squeeze the spring and remove the clutch and spring assembly. Do not see any damage or reason it is so tight. Is this normal, or is this the reason I can't spin the drum by hand. Help if you can. BTW, your videos are great!!

So I came to this site last summer (over a year ago) to replace my washer- it was a motor coupler issue. It worked beautifully! Well the part needed replacing, but since it was about 1.5 years I had to come back to this video.. it was quicker the second time around but I do have to say I was hoping the part would last longer than 1.5 years… my machine is about 21 years old and I couldn’t give up on her! I’m also a mom of 7 and it would kill me to buy a new washer for a $6 part and a couple hours of labor (hubby helped with the heavy part but my little hands were easier for reaching!) Thank you again for this video!! So hopeful and thorough!! 🙏🙏

I've been struggling to diagnose my freezer. Can you help me? I got it from someone who said it worked but it didn't when I got it to my place. I plug it in and it never cools down; I think I smell a fait chemical smell when I open the lid. I looked at the internal components and have been doing some testing. When I plug it in I hear it try to come on but then after a few seconds I hear it click off. I tested the capacitor and it's rated as 12mf but the when i put a multimeter on it for ohms it climbs to 20 ohms. The starter relay shows continuity all three ways. The compressor ohms reading measures 10.6-11 ohms between the start and run winding terminals, maybe 7.5 for the start to common but there was a a wide spread of variability and then 3.5-5.5 on the run to common. Compressor was drawing about 12.2 amps and the LRA value on the compressor is 14.6. (for what it's worth I measured amperage going into and coming out of the thermostat and it was around the same, varying from slightly below 12 to slightly above 12v. This evening I just replaced the capacitor and it didn't help and then I replaced the relay, too, but the result is the same, I hear some faint noise like it's trying to come on and then it clicks off. After I replaced both the capacitor and the relay I noticed pungent odor, not a sweet smell like I thought freon smells like, and then when I went to unplug the relay from the compressor I noticed that it was very hot on the top of it. Where do I go from here? By process of elimination I think I can just assume that it's the compressor but I'm someone who wants to understand the why and as far as I understand given these values the compressor should be functional. So can you help me fix my freezer and understand what's going on? Thank for your time if you decide to give it!

Hi At this point with my Frigidaire GLHS67EHQ side-by-side refrigerator, I’ve replaced the damper, evaporator thermostat, and evaporator fan (which is running). Although the compressor was working, I decided to install a new start device since the unit is 12 years old and I was already cleaning the condenser coil. The damper is open, and air is flowing, but there doesn’t seem to be much velocity. The freezer is cold, but the fridge side remains warm. There’s no corrosion, and there’s no ice buildup on the evaporator. I also replaced the control panel, but that didn’t resolve the cooling issue on the fridge side either. I’ve checked and rechecked everything, including re-crimping the evaporator thermostat wires to ensure they were properly connected, but the problem persists. I’ve also removed the ice maker and top back panel to check for obstructions, and everything looks good. The vent by the crisper is clear as well. I’ve been working on this for days and am not sure what else I can check. Any further guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for any ideas in advance. Dean

At this point , I have replaced the damper, the evaporator thermostat, the evaporator fan and the compressor start. The Damper works and air is coming out.. The freezer is cold, but fridge is still warm. No signs of corrosion. No ice on evaporator. Fresh food still not cooling so I replaced the Control Panel. Still not working. I tore everything back apart and all seems to be working. FRIDGE SIDE IS STILL NOT COOLING. I have screwed with this for days. I have no idea what else I can check.
