Sarah, thanks for being so thorough, this video was really interesting, it's great to hear you're seeing success with your methods, it'll be really interesting to monitor how things change over the seasons with the tools and systems you're using. As a hobby gardener, I love the idea of a simple worm count so I'll try that later in autumn!

Totally get why my plants are new plants are being destroyed by predators. My soil is exhausted after years of not adding fertiliser as my dog would just eat it. Have composted FY manure and will be using this winter to improve condition. I have obviously forgotten all I learned on the RHS course decades ago but this video was brilliant and answered a lot of question. Thank you

Thanks for sharing this, it is a whole new understanding of soil and it's health for me. I will definately be looking at my soil differently from now on. My first observation and my major concern at the moment is how your soil held together, mine is very crumbly. I love your mortar and pestel, very organic looking.

So informative! I really needed this for many reasons, especially for my frustrations with weeds. You've inspired me to learn more about them not to just worry over them. Thank you. Can you do some content about how you choose certain cover crops for certain reasons? I have been trying to research that and find it confusing. I think I want winter kill, because I do not have nor can I afford the kind of equipment that would be needed to eliminate the cover crop in spring. But I also need a cover crop that will help break up my clay soil. I almost decided on radishes, but I read where they can bring in harmful bacteria! I thought of clover, but I read it is hard to kill. And so forth.

Wow, what a really interesting video, I think we all take our soil for granted. I'm going to have to wait until I've had some more rain before I do my worm test, I've got heavy clay, with cracks in at the moment. It has had manure occasionally over the years, but not for a few years now, as local farmer couldn't deliver it anymore. Still, I grow decent veg & flowers, but dependent on the weather, like we all are.

I'm so excited you shared this video! Fellow soil nerd here. I'm currently taking Elaine Ingham's microsope course at the Soil Food Web School online and it's fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and passion for soil health 😊❤

@@bloomandgray I'm really loving it! I think you'd really enjoy it. I have a few weeks left of the certified lab tech microscope course and am learning so much. I especially like sampling my worm bin. There's a lot more to discover and the world needs more soil advocates. 😊

Until now my soil test consisted of digging my forked spade into the ground and seeing how far it would go. In Texas caliche that’s not far because it’s mostly rock. Compost and mulch are my best friends!
