Honda 3-pins plug coils 15 years 98k km, car had no power & jerking badly. Changed spark plugs, not much different. Changed all plug coils, car like "new". Did use multimeter, old coils higher resistance than new. Thanks, good video, did 👍🍻

Yes, the old coils are OEM with much higher resistance than the aftermarket new ones.

The bad coil didn't have a short, it had an open. The 1 with dot on your meter indicates an open circuit.

@@eazidiy thanks for reply, one question pls: all ignition coils which are open circuit means that they don’t work properly? NGK authentic from official website but no reading resistance on secondary, so defective?
@eazidiy
@eazidiy 7 месяцев назад
A coil is made of wires wound in it. So there must be a resistance reading if the coil is closed circuit ( meaning it is not broken). If open circuit, there won't be a reading. If you are testing a new coil and no reading, I will suspect the meter you are using for the test.

in this video pin 1 is ground/black alligator clip and pin 4 is positif 12 volt/Red alligator clip is it correct?
@eazidiy
@eazidiy Год назад
Yes or you can swap the pins. What you are testing for is the continuity in the resistance of the coil.

The aftermarket ignition coil have a reading..But when I test the Toyota Denso Oem coil,it's not reading...I've done the same in another car..It has 2 oem and 2 aftermarket...I don't get any reading out of the old coil but the new one or aftermarket one has readings...Why??And the car that has no reading,also has no problem..It start and run okay

I used alligator clamps to extend my connections from the probes of the multimeter to the pins of the ignition coil.

there is no short on the faulty probe....by the way...it is open cricuit between +12v and spark plug connection... not a short circuit.

And it’s no damage? It will generate spark normally?
@Fiftyfive45
@Fiftyfive45 Год назад
I didn’t get any reading from the spark plug connector from any coil, double checked , rechecked even removed the boots. Only reading from the pins of 35 for all. This tells me the new coils you got are different and got a reading of 16 instead of 35 which is different
@eazidiy
@eazidiy Год назад
The difference in reading of the coil depends on the resistance the turns of coil ( length of the wire), thickness of the wire and temperature. You should have get readings from the end-end of a wire or coil unless you have a open circuit ( broken).
@Fiftyfive45
@Fiftyfive45 Год назад
@@eazidiy yes the resistance difference is not significant, k ohms between Oem coils and new aftermarket one. I had the same reading on the bad one and all coils and the way I figured it was bad was by switching it, ( s plugs were good ) and getting the Obd reading for the cylinder it was switched for. Other than that, the bad coil had the same reading as the good ones, at least I didn’t have to buy 4, it’s fixed. Still scratching my head or sometimes a bad coil will not give a bad reading 🙂
