I did my soil test three weeks ago and all 3 NPK was low even though I fertilize with milo which is a 6-4-0. So I upped my fertilizer to ProPeat 13-5-8 and hoping for some good results. Highly recommend this soil test, easy to do and fast results.

I never tested my lawn before this. The "local county extension office" is not easy to deal with, you pay for it and the steps are crazy. This test is like the Amazon of soil testing. Do it and 7-10 days later you learn more about your lawn than any other way. It was a great experience.

I just did this exact test also. Super easy and I just got the results back today. Did 6 spots with my soil probe and found out my micros were fine but my macros were really low. Which was a shock, but I’ve been cautiously conservative with fertilizer.

Yea that iron is crazy high! But nothing you can do about it if it’s the water unless you filter. So when you have such high iron it can really slow or stop nutrient uptake in the lawn!

I got crabgrass on my back lawn but the front lawn is ok. the evergreen i applied killed the moss and other weeds but it did not touch the crabgrass i watched your video on how to get rid of clover and crabgrass i need to buy some tenacity, dye and surfucant right?

Nice, I will try that for sure. Could you also do a review of some digital tester that could be used over and over again (kinda like a tire pressure tester)? Maybe you've seen these before. I don't know much info sbout it. Would be interesting to compare the results now that you already know the composition

What should I do if I have had loam brought in and spread from different companies. One truckload is growing grass great while another section were a different truckload from a different pit dropped loam and the grass is not great. Don’t want to mix a test sample if they are different soils.

I've been thinking of doing this for a while but the cheapskate in me stops me from buying that kit on Amazon when I see the price. Your lawn looks great even though the pH was low, maybe the high iron compensated a bit by helping to keep it greened up? Interesting that your sulfur was low, sulfur products generally lower soil pH so you may have a bit of a problem fixing the sulfur and raising the soil pH.

Should you include a soil sample from a fairy ring or would that throw the results off too much?

Usually diseases won't change a soil test too much. I would still just take random spots on the lawn and get the first baseline It is very interesting to see what your first test comes back.

I love all the great information the you give out. I do have a question that you might be able to help me with. If not, maybe one of your subscribers know. I have a big problem with voles and moles. Mainly Voles. They don't allow me to have a nice lawn. Since I live next to a wildlife refuge they seem to migrate into my lawn. Do you or any of your subscribers have any ideas?

I appreciate the nice words. That is one of the few things we don't get much of here. We get skunks that eat the grubs but hopefully someone else can give you some good ideas for them here.

@@brianfletcher7942 it seems the cats that I get ignore the voles. So far it seems the most effective extermination comes from rattlesnakes.I just had one crossing my driveway with a big bulge in the middle. It kind of looked like the size of a vole. I had a war on rattlesnakes for a few years until I realized that I liked them more than the voles. I was just hoping there was something I could maybe spray on the lawn that would deter them from coming in. Maybe reality should tell me you don't try to have a nice lawn next to a wildlife refuge.

I have conservation land on 1 side of my property and I have chipmunks digging holes in my yard. I just look at it as free aeration for the lawn.

Well B V you may just keep enjoying your rattlers there 😂. I want no part of them. Sounds like with the reserve next door it may be a losing battle. I have vole holes that are annoying to me as well.

When is the optional time to conduct this test before the season starts before any applications are done ? Or is it ok to do midstream when you’ve already put down products? Thanks again love the content 👍🏻👍🏻

You can do any time of season but you want to avoid testing within 3 weeks of applying fertilizer or lime. So just before your next fertilization is always good.

I have problems with clay soil in one of my beds. Would you recommend a soil test there, too?

You can test a specific area. If it's just clay and thats the issue the test won't help but if you can seem to break the clay up or something seems off the test will tell you a lot. Often time an issue is with an imbalance. I fight low PH a lot but had no idea it was still so low. I also learned I have almost no Sulfur which is needed for good growth and can reduce watering needs so I a, working on that too. Amazing info for $30

Is there an inexpensive soil probe I can find. They are averaging $55 online. Seems awfully expensive. Just curious. Thank you!

Click on the description the best deal is they have a two test kit package and the probe for 85. The kits don’t really have a shelf life so you would be set for two seasons and you wouldn’t need to buy a probe a second time.

Paul Connolly I got one of these proplugger.com and use it as a dual tool Not exactly like the soil probe being used in the video but I’ve gotten enough use out of it to justify the cost

Pick up 2’ of 3/4” black iron pipe at any hardware store and a 1/2” wood dowel to push the soil back out of the iron. Less than $10 total. You could even get fancy and make a T handle with a 3/4” tee and two 6” 3/4” nipples for another $5-6.

I’ve got a long way to go, but I enjoy learning little things along the way. I have a bunch of bare spots in my lawn out front and do you think it is too late in the season to lay down some Scotts EZ seed or would you recommend something else?

@@thepurdychannel8866 I am not familiar with all yoru grass types but I know that you can use the process I used here to over seed and ressed with the grass that you WANT to take over eventually. You are 100% right. Personally I never did mine because my local county ext office is in the stone ages and its not free either. This works perfectly, tests using more advanced technology and I do everything from home. Plus I Like the web site too. Best thing I ever did, looking forward to the next one to see how its working with my changes,

Soil test is way too expensive. I've opted to do my own testing with a kit. I've got three separate lawns. Just not sure if the results are reliable.

Not a problem, they sell that tool but you can just use a small shovel. dig down 6 inches and mix it up when done. You definitely do not have to have the special tool: this kit amzn.to/41rr9Qe has been my favorite

Isn't it a bad idea to use that when putting fertilizer down? Like you wouldn't get accurate results?

Yes, you wouldn't want to test right after fertilizing since it wold affect the results. It's good to do it at least 3 weeks after fertilizing.

I get my soil tested by extension service...they charge $10...and they give you a complete analysis.
