22 years ago I bought a pot with a number of ficus benjamina whips inside. I tied them tightly together with twine and the whips fused, eventually resulting in a massive trunk. I suspect this technique works best with any ficus variety. I have seen deciduous trees do this in nature so I would not be surprised that it would work with them as well.
Yesss that is amazing . Currently looking for as many as possible ficus of the same variety and try to fuse them. But you are right ficus work best, saw an amazing trident maple fused with lots and lots of seedlings i think conifers won't work however or maybe evergreens will have to test
I think it could work i would definitely give it a try. Those ties should works only thing is id keep an eye to make sure it doesn't bite into the trunk, rafia is a bit stretchy so it helps avoid bites or marks
