if you find the Amulet too cheesy/too OP too early, a cool quest you can do with reasonable Sneaky assassin skills is Larrius Varro's first quest ("Larrius Varro Tells a Little Story") Balmora/Moonmoth Fort. Ask around for rumors in Balmora and people will tell you about him. The quest is quite hard if you're not careful since you are killing people inside a building, but if you can swing it, you get a Ring of Surroundings, which is 20-30% Chameleon for 30s on use. It takes more effort than the Amulet and the Ring is less powerful, but since it's an early quest and you are pointed towards Balmora anyway, it feels like a more organic start.
SPOILERS AHEAD I do find it utterly hilarious that Balmora's Council Club is targeted by 4 different quests, one that you mentioned above, and the other three are tied to separate factions (2 of them being thief-like), but if you do end up killing the whole house you end up having much easier time tackling the other three: - Balmora's Thieves Guild has you pickpocket (or with enough disposition, buy) a manor key from one of the above targets, if he's killed then you can just loot it off his dead body then turn the key to the questgiver - If you decide to keep the key which is used to enter the manor you'll find a dead Dunmer with a journal update, if you progressed a bit in Balmora's House Hlaluu questline you'll eventually have to find the killer, which turned out to be one of the targets in Varro's quest, which you can immediately turn it in - Imperial Cult has one sub-questline involves getting (or buying) alms and donations to be given to the questgiver, one of these involves donating 5 bottles of Cyrodilic Brandy, if you ask around Balmora taverns eventually one NPC will direct you to the Council Club and not-so-subtly poking you to raid their storage room which exactly has five of these, with all of them dead you can just access the storage room freely
As many here I'm still a Morrowind player since release, I never stopped. Thanks for your work, it's very inspirating me to share myself some knowledge I have from this game on RU-vid. Great job man
I'd really love to see that night blade guide you mentioned. Interested to see your take on it, since I've recently been leveling one myself. Playing slow and steady and stacking as much burst damage as possible is always such a great time.
I played OpenMW multiplayer with a friend recently (modded a bit but mechanically still Morrowind) and at some point he realized he could level Sneak by just crouching behind a room full of people and going AFK for a while.
@@colbyboucher6391 I'd love it if mobile OpenMW eventually became compatible with hosted servers, that shit would be insane for breaks messing around in morrowind. Playing hide and seek with the various Tamriel Rebuilt expansions, bombing towns aerially, paralyzing each other for 2 minutes like a prick.
@@dillonmoore9810 Yeah, my favorite thing I've seen people do was kinda like the old Perfect Dark mode where two people tried to complete the main quest and two others just lived to make their lives miserable.
My good man you are the only reason I am capable of understanding and enjoying this magnificent game. They just don’t make em like this no more. Games and RU-vid content.
You have many great guides on how to begin a game. Have you considered a guide on how to effectively manage the mid game? Not necessarily a min/max perfect play guide. But the general little tips on understanding the environment, enemies, quest order, good dungeon raiding practices, or just how to use Morrowind. Maybe it'd be mundane. But I thought this idea might point someone who uses your build guides in the right direction when they continue their story on their own.
This will be unpopular, but I like The Lady for thief characters. You generally won't be using too many skills that enhance endurance (although spear can be useful as a backup weapon, since it has a nice range), and that extra boost helps so much with your health. On top of that, a high personality helps you make the most profit off your pilfered goods.
I do the same. The Lady is great. The boost to personality goes well with Illusion. Spear is really, really good for any build. Its particularly good for low levels. It helps you level up your endurance and get additional health early on. It makes thief/scout build far less squishy
Morrowind was one of the first rpg's i got really lost in. I played it on xbox when it came out and never did much more than thieves guild questline and general murder and mayhem. I remember pouring over the bible of a strategy guide to not get lost. Im re-enjoying the game on a steam deck now and really hooked. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion with us
As someone who wants to play through Morrowind all the way a second time as a stealthy thief I absolutely love this video! Especially considering there aren’t any good videos on being a thief that aren’t obsessing over the Strength and Endurance meta.
Everybody wants to rock the Strength and Endurance meta, but ignores the fact that melee attacks roll off of Agility. They build a freight train that can't hit anything.
@@chrisbingley damn, if only there was a way to level both strength, endurance AND agility! And don’t forget those nords/orcs/Redguards who max out endurance at lvl 4-7, they can’t possibly find a room for a x5 dexterity at every lvl up after their hp gains are maxed out, no sir.
@@max7971 I was refering more to starting builds. Most go for strength and endurance as favoured attributes with The Lady as a star sign. Your far better off going with either strength, endurance and The Lover, or Strength, Agility and The Lady. Really it depends on whether you're running vanilla Morrowind or OpenMW. But whichever version you're playing, you're far better off with all three at/over 60 than one at 85 and oanother at 40.
@@max7971Hey I want to play Morrowind again as a tank (Nord). It's quite possible I haven't really understood the leveling system yet. So if I would go strength and endurance what problem am I likely to face in the later game and how can I avoid it (+ if I chose to do it anyway)? I know you can get 15 points per level (5 each) at max. But are you impying there is a max stat (for every attribute or just for health)? And how would that circumstance impact the further leveling? I hope you can help me😊
@@chrisbingleyHey I want to restart after many years as a tank (Nord). And I heard it's recommended to go strength + endurance + the Lady (if that was personality + endurance). But you said it would be kind of a mistake (at least for an optimal leveling strat). Could you explain to me a bit deeper why your selections would be preferable pls? I am a vanilla Morrowind player, if that as you said, matters. Also why would more balanced stats e.g. 60 be better than one 80 and the other one 40?
I have played Morrowind 20 years ago, when I was in high school and I remember it so fondly. Recently I picked Morrowind again on kids Xbox game pass, played it a little with all the nostalgia and then started digging in. Found OpenMW on PC and then your channel... Oh boy, what a treasure is your channel. So fun to watch and then go and play it. Thank you for being here. I remember vaguely, that I was playing as a Kajiit, the beginning was very difficult. I was very weak and poor. Being at a very low level, I have found some cave, where a strong NPC couldn't reach me. After painfully shooting hundreds of arrows at some fellow with Dwemer armor somewhere in the northwestern portion of the map, I managed to kill him. I don't remember how, but after that all went downhill where I quickly became a glass outfitted super cat marksman who could jump across the river in Balmora. So now I tested your alchemy tricks and further I want to try a Kajiit again, like you in this video.
How to Jerma thief: 1. steal everything at everytime 2. kill anyone who attacks you, it's self defence 4. oh the misery 5. get scared by an Argonian sniffing
Cheers man, been enjoying binging your videos for the past week for my bi-yearly month-long morrowind bender. I appreciate you, and you make great videos with great information while keeping it fun and light. Wishing you the best 🤝
01:12 when you try to steal what’s blow the pillow, but you accidentally slept in someone else bed. Morrowind most important rule is 1# NEVER SLEEP IN SOMEONE ELSE BED! Yet another awesome video my good sir!
Strength is underrated for a thief, since it governs maximum encumbrance for bigger and longer hauls, and it also indirectly affects speed and jump height as well. But anyone who mainstats luck is an alpha male and should not be questioned.
Greetings. I have to admit. That is my first video of Morrowind in a while and it made much fun to watch you playing a thiefs build. This game is just classic and you have so much replayability. Thank you for the content and keep up the good work. Speaking of classic. 17:33 that move is always part of every "from scratch" playthrough lmao :D It always makes me laugh how you can trick the AI and get some good cash early on. Best regards Katz
The Lover is also a great option for melee characters. Hit rolls are based on your agility score, regardless of the weapon type you're using. And paralyse is a great way to take down more powerful opponents.
Easy way to increase Sneak. Go to any place in Balmora with a few people. Get a Hammer. Use the hammer to hold down the Sneak button and come back a few hours later for max Sneak
I love Morrowind more than I do Oblivion and Skyrim combined, and every day I eagerly await the REAL TES:IV. Until then, I greatly appreciate you helping to keep the passion for this wonderful game alive. From my heart, my friend, I thank you, and pray God bless you.
Like a lot of elder-millennials who didn't have an xbox growing up, I only ever played skyrim a bunch. Finally dipping my toes into this beautiful game, and this vid was so fun to watch. Cheers!
Recently did a Khajiit playthrough of Hlaalu and the Tong it was still a blast. I didn't x5 endurance early on and resulted into a very low hp pool which forced more stealth tactics with jinx blades and the like and it was tense at points. Still feel like sneak is a pretty janky skill unmodded until you get a good amount of chameleon. Ra'virr is the greatest merchant on Vvardenfell change my mind!
I love that people still play this game! Grew up playing it, and is still my favorite! Crazy though that I can run it with open mw on my phone and it runs better than my original Xbox ever did. Good days! 😅
Bro, decades ago, I would B-line and swoop on this busted item for every new game start. The amount of shenanigans and circusry that ensures is pure chaos. Love that it got highlighted in this vid. 😂
Two other good items for this build you can get at level 1 are the gloves Treachery and Deceit (not to mention Shadowsting) in the hollow stump behind Thirsk mead hall in the Bloodmoon expansion. Then go over to Gyldenhul Barrow on the northeast coast of the island. Its a 100 level lock which should be doable. Over 10k gold plus glass and ebony loot among a bunch of other goodies.
This is the sole reason I got to play Morrowind, playing as a thief and going from petty burglar to vault robber is so rewarding. Thank you for this video :)
Tried this build out and I must say holy crap....Broken is right. Fun though never the less. Anyways looking towards more of your videos for some crafty builds. Tried the Marksman build, that was fun too. Anyways, take care and I'm going to have fun with these crazy builds...../cheers!
So for stealth build, the greatest of starts is to build up sneak, this is before the slight rework in skyrim where you technically have to have active, simply toggle sneak, auto walk in an area with NPCs, then leave it for several hours. If your sneak is 60 or 50, congrats you are a master of shadows. No need to select sneak as a major or minor skill because its so easy to level up.
Sneaking formula with patch project I find to be much improved iirc, just like the change in staggering/staggered formula for NPCs. I remember in vanilla Morrowind getting to around 70% chameleon and cheesing so, so hard -> first Umbra then the world.
Been looking through RU-vid and forums for something for the last few days and i have honestly never seen anyone post it. So i got a guide idea to make for those that can't move past the combat system of the game, or are massive hoarders and can't help themselves from picking up every single item in the game and want to keep it all in their inventory. Don't think this was ever patched out by something as far as i know, but get the skull crusher hammer as soon as possible in the game. You can get through the cave and get the hammer at level 1 if you are decent at kiting enemies, as there is a few strong mobs in there that can 1 or 2 shot you. I had a few friends that i showed it to to help them cause they wanted to play the game to get the lore themselves. You just need the Skull Crusher and any other weapon in the game. Cycle your weapon equipped and every time it passes the Skull Crusher in the list, it stacks the Fortify Feather and Fortify Attack. You will rarely if ever miss attacks and you have a limitless weight. For those that can't deal with the games bad combat system, this is a literal game changer and turns the game from being practically unplayable to being fun for those that can't stand having to grind up their skills before they can kill anything. It's 100% an exploit and shouldn't be used if you want to play the game normally, but for those that want to play the game but get too frustrated with it, this is definitely something that can and will help them be able to do so.
Its interesting looking back at morrowinds mechanics and realizing that level ment very little in the game, it was really a game about skill levels and not so much player level as everything in the game was very lethal so if you had the skill to hit things, you could stack damage pretty quick.
Saying stuff like "I'm gonna go back to khajit because it really feels like the perfect race for this class, one that fits the role play core of the character." Is really just "despite only making up 7% of the population, khajits account for 74% of all prisoners."
Also the Cuirass of Savior's Hide from Tel Fyr, the by far best Light Armor, right next to a 4000 years old Telvanni wizard in a level 100 lock chest. You need a Levitation potion to get there and maybe a Telekinesis spell. Totally *not* broke the Game with level 1 😂
You did it again... I just created a Khajiit thief days ago! Same thing happened with your pure mage video. Are you secretly Dagoth Ur and reading my mind?!? Ok you dont exactly have a pure mage video but the one where you were exploring underrated spell effects is close enough.
Mr Nut I have a request: I would like to play a mage or a thief, but I don't want to be overpowered early. I am after the journey and the destination. Would you be able to create guides telling us how to be thieves etc. without "go there, get this very specific item", but more general guidelines? Like "this is how you can level sneak, those few quests should get you started". Thank you for your productions.
@@max7971 you sound very certain of your word. You must have hard proof of how many kids have figured the game out vs how many have not. I mean, it's not like only those who did figure the game out (to a varying degree - I am sure you got that data down too) remember it fondly! I wish I had that kind of insight.
I'm a bit spoiled so i can't even play skyrim without complaining about "jank this" or "bad AI that" every half hour so you can only imagine how i felt about Morrowind when i saw it. You are the only reason I have 20 hours into this game and i started last night! I wouldn't have even touched it if it wasn't for your channel and now i've already ran through the thief and warrior classes from your videos in the span of an afternoon. The game looks like a wet bag of dogshit, the combat is janky at best and the way the heavy armor sets look make me wanna wear a thong instead but man is this old piece of dead tech fun! Genuinely appreciate you.
Oh god, anything but that. The best thing to happen to morrowind was that Bethesda forgot about it. Leave it to the fans, I’m not paying Todd and Emil to make my favorite game worse.
The one thing I hate about these old games is that building non optimally is the most optimal way to succeed at the game for example taking skills you will never use at the beginning of the game that way you can level the skills you want very easily (your videos really do help my happy brain chemicals by taking the “correct” starting skills)
Could you do some kind of an Agent or Acrobat guide? I want to focus on Speechcraft, Mercantile, Marksman(throwing weapons), Short Blade, Acrobatics, Athletics, Sneak, maybe Light Armor, and probably either Security or whatever magic school bypasses Security. The idea being that I'd fall hard into the Blades agent role and keep an ear to the ground wherever I went, befriending the locals and blending in, while approaching combat from stealth and giving myself a ranged option that isn't a bow. A bow is too cumbersome and slow to be effective for what I'm thinking, it can't be easily hidden. Having a dagger or a little short blade is easy to hide and easy to explain and being able to dump a throwing knife or star into someone or something from a ranged stealthy position really appeals to me. That said, I know throwing weapons can be difficult to use at first and I'd love to see a good guide on that.
Love the video just repeated it with 100% success thank you for the info I would love you to do a video on like maybe quest order to complete the most quests I started doing fighters guild in vivic early and I swear he had me assassinating imperial empire people and thief guild people like if I join the empire and I gonna need that dude or what not?
My favorite build as a kid was a Hand-To-Hand Khajiit with alteration and unarmored. It was fucking hilarious to knock out every living thing in Vvanderfel and steal their shit while they were down. Also stealing all the pillows all the time.
I actually take luck and endurance on almost every character. I just can't get away from the fact it's pretty much the most power gamey choice to make.
