Great job! Could you do a video on how to be more accurate for sidearmers. I saw the you were mostly a straight sidearmer and would like to know a few ways I could improve my accuracy without losing velocity Thanks

Hey coach. Here's some quick random info from a fan. I'm 37 yrs old. From New Jersey. Born and raised. I pitched in high school. I was kinda nice. I was a nasty lefty. Could've went to Rutgers if I didn't get in trouble... My point is .... every single night... Me and my 11 year old son watch every one of your videos. We discuss your videos while we walk to the baseball field from our apartment. Not many good coaches around anymore. My son loves your videos. Thanks from New Jersey

Because balls that hit the dirt are remvoed from the game. MAddux, Clemens, Johnson, all fans of scuffed balls. A few pulls to one side will drasticly effect aerodynmacis. Greg's even admitted he threw some shit balls and he talked about how he would utilize scuffs in his silder. So yah, he can;t be replicated but not because of pitching utility :)

Grew up in NJ and feel the same way about watching Maddux. He was other-worldly. plus, ALL the Braves games were on TBS, which we actually got. I must have watched every single game they played between 1990 -2007. Getting to watch Smoltz, Glavine, and Maddux basically every day was an absolute blessing. Steve Avery was pretty awesome, too. Man I miss those days.

What always amazed me about Maddux was his location/accuracy with that much movement. He had that disgusting, late movement, and it’s to the catcher’s mitt. It looks like it’s going to hit a LH batter, and the last ten feet, it snaps down and left-to-right (from a pitcher’s perspective), and lands perfectly in the webbing of the catchers mitt. Over and over again.

Coach, I used to throw the 2 seamer the exact same way you described as Maddox did(college pitching coach taught me). Only thing I can add is that with my thumb I tried to pull the ball to create more movement. As a lefty I had natural movement but by pulling that bottom seam I got a lot more down and in movement to lefty batters and a lot of induced ground balls from right handed batters. Just wanted to add some info for others to try.

Perhaps, could you explain the differences in training, techniques, and psychology between starters and relief pitchers. Secondly, can you discuss the optimum foods and drinks you consumed before pitching to achieve best efforts. Keep those videos coming right into the viewers strike zone of keen interest. Cheers!!!!

Great video! I loved watching Maddux pitch! My son is 13 and just played his last year of little league and small field. He's moving up to middle school big field and 60'6" mound. He's very tall for his age (5'11" and still growing!) and has always been a dominant pitcher with his fastball. He can locate it well and he throws hard. As a result, he hasn't had to throw much off speed stuff or breaking ball. Do you have any tips on what we should be working on over the winter to prepare him for the longer distance, and what breaking pitches he should be working on? Those middle school batters will hit a 70mph fastball a lot easier from 60 feet than they did last season at 46!

So the Maddux comeback 2 seam was a basically a sinker? **What movement do you get when you throw a 2 seam across the seams? Like perpendicular instead of parallel??** I would be infinitely grateful if you could answer. PLEASE. Love the channel dude. I direct people here when trying to help teach them about pitching.

I watched TBS and they would zoom in before the pitch and his fingers were spread apart on top of the seams or on the outer part of the seams.

so my fast ball moves like his but on a good pitch it cuts a few inches toward a righty batter and has a normal drop could that be because my arm is 3/4 angle up or could it be my release?

Hey coach I have a slider right? But over the winter it loses it's break and becomes a spinning pitch. I tried it a few days ago and it just moved like a slow cutter. In the summer i was doing something different and it was just nasty. I need to know what to think when im getting my grip and releasing. I keep forgetting how I do it exactly than rediscovering it. I need something i can repeatedly think when I lose that grip or that motion.

Hey coach, I’ve been working a lot to build on my repertoire this off season and i’ve developed a nice fading circle change and i’m still trying to perfect a cutter and slider to add to my 4-seam and nasty curveball. But, I’ve tried to experiment with a 2 seam/sinker and i really can’t get it to work like other guys can. I’m not sure if it’s because of lack-luster velo (76-80) or the arm action, but i was wondering if it’s even something i should worry about considering all of my other pitches i throw and am still working on? Thanks coach!

Hitters are afraid of my 2 seamer 💪🏼. Coach i got a question for you. I was watching a video on khris davis from oakland as on mlb network ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6cTEKYs8t-g.html and sean casey was talking about how he was so effective at hitting for power despite being undersized. He said that khris davis does something that all great hitters like jd martinez, betts, altuve, judge, arenado, trout and so on... they all get their back elbows up which allows them to create that lat stretch on their front side and ultimately leads to more separation and power. I have tried getting my back elbow up just like those guys but i feel like im wrapping and it will take forever for me to get my barrel to the ball especially on guys throwing harder upper 80s plus and i feel like my swing is long to the ball as opposed to being short to it and long through it. Am i just in my head in believing that about the back elbow? Also that video you promoted matt antonelli with about bat drag last week ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_HEE7jHrAEU.html is exactly what im doing. I know how to fix it now by getting my back elbow up as i stride towards the pitcher but when does the back elbow enter the hitting zone to emphasize being both short and giving myself the LARGEST amount of room for error? Asking because I am a speedy outfielder that wants to keep my strikeouts down throughout the season and hit for a bit more power while having high average and high obp. Please help!

At least Maddux was pretty close to the zone. Tom Glavine is the one you should be bitching about.Jesus Christ if Tom got a call on the outside corner....he would move the pitch a little further out.If the Ump called that one. To the point sometimes he is throwing in the on deck and getting calls. BUT you have to have a excellent catcher to do that. And the braves had some fine catcher that understood how to catch the Big 3.
