I've got a little secret that as FAR as I know, nobody but me knows. In my own case, I have always thrown two finger, on curves, and there's no trick to that using the thumb and index finger, and it works equally well sidearm, or over-handed. I wish I had thought of throwing it under-handed to get it to rise, but never thought of that.First a little background. When I threw it in the early years of throwing curves, I didn't play for a team mind you, a lot of things affected it, such as what direction the wind was blowing and how much velocity the wind had, but with the new technique, it broke in all circumstances and severely at that. How did I learn this? From a comic book. There was an ad of some device that attached between your fingers and wrist, and I understood the concept right away, but never ordered it, and I believe Earl Weaver endorsed it. Anyway, the concept is simple, and I cannot vouch for how useful it is in heavy use, but I would imagine to use it more than 10 pitches a game, your arm would have to gradually be conditioned to it. I never hurt my arm using it, but I also was afraid to use it a great deal, plus for what pitching I did with my friends, we weren't too interested in making the batter miss, but it wasn't like we weren't interested in making them miss either. Anyway, this is how it works. Apart from throwing two fingered making it simpler, the break entirely depends on the snap of the wrist. This is achieved that as you rear back with the throw, you bring your hand back on the wrist in a bent backwards shape as far as it will go. You then keep your hand in that position all the way through till when you release it, which at that point the wrist straightens out and massively snaps. The curve from doing this is wicked, and it never hangs and never fails, but I do wonder how much extra arm tear it causes when used in greater quantity. As well, I think it works no matter how slow you throw the ball too, but I just can't remember for sure if that was the case or not, but at least with a moderate speed it will always work.

The idea is to put top-spin on the ball.

actually i was at a game, and the field ump was really nice and was giving tips on how to throw my curve. he played on the NYM, and told me to throw it like a fastball, and it helped go out, and curve back in.

Elliot McNeave You shouldn't drag your foot when you push off of the mound either... But hey, you knew that, even though you do it. As far as snapping your wrist, it helps with the rotation and drop. Most MLB pitchers snap their wrists. I don't know who taught you how to pitch, but your mechanics are all kinds of jacked up.

Right. You shouldn’t focus on it at all. When throw like that your wrist will “snap” down naturally
