Scott after our lesson in Weatherford last week (5-14), I followed the pendelum advice you gave me and got a huge distance jump in my sidearm, very close to 400 feet now. You are the man! The backhand is coming along but it's just like you said, i'm making the great throws a little more frequently now, except they're coming out of my hand to the Right which is weird. I think it's my front foot coming down off line. Still working on it.

This video was HUGE for me. I watched countless videos of today's pros throwing side arm. I was finding that either they had some very elaborate walk up that was hard to repeat, or my elbow hurt after just a few throws. I've been practicing your technique, and HUGE improvement. I'm not throwing 400 feet, but I can get 250+ without hurting. Thanks!!!

I love you, Scott. I’m 50. I’ve been playing for 30 years on and off. Im trying to develop good mechanics after years of trashing my arm and getting bad advice from round to round.

So, I threw my first disc about 4 weeks ago. I watched several YT videos, didn't practice, and threw my first disc on a course. It all seemed easy enough. I didn't want to overpower my first throw because I didn't want it to fly too far... the disc maybe flew 50'. All that to say, I gained an early appreciation of technique over power.

Really appreciate your way of explaining things. I was planning on making this comment on a few RU-vidr's.. Or well, question. Could you possibly consider a video on how to throw a "Modified Back Hand" for someone who may have a bad shoulder? I TECHNICALLY probably.. need Rotator Cuff Surgery. When I throw, if my form is wrong AT ALL, when trying to throw properly- My shoulder mildly dislocates, lol.. and it really sucks. I'm about to start practicing different methods of throwing in a modified way because, as much as I'd like to do the perfect (Lawn mower pull) form, it seems it's unrealistic for me.. If I'm going to continue playing (I'm new, gone about 6 times in the last month or 2), I have to figure out to have fun and be competitive without hurting my shoulder. Thanks in advance!

Thanks brother! Your videos are all so helpful, this one especially. I recently hurt my knee about 6 weeks ago and its been hurting enough since that I can't twist my knee athletically at all now. Not sure what caused it but I really want to heal properly and play some friggin disc golf again man. Any advice?

I can't give medical advice, hope you heal up well and get out on the course again soon.

I've been playing almost two years now and have refused to throw sidearm because of fear of injury- between pros and local players it seems like sidearm results in so many more injuries. Maybe I'll finally start trying it after watching this, hope I don't regret it

Scott, I love your videos and thank you so much for your instruction! I need to ask you after watching this, however. In a previous video on sidearm technique you discussed how the arm wasn't what I would call and "underhand" technique but rather the upper arm was some amount of angle above parallel with the ground and you would bend at the waist to lower the disc angle to flat or nearly flat. In this video it seems your upper arm is actually parallel or even below parallel to ground and you arm throwing with that "underhand" kind of motion. It is just a little confusing is all.

What I'm describing is a baseline starting point for the throw. The a position is where to start, later as your game evolves you will learn to manipulate the angle. 90% of throws will be in the default arm slot and bend at the waist. The arm should not be lower and swoop up like a submarine pitcher.
