Hi guys, i started to braid whips less than half a year ago and when i saw people in the videos finishing the knots directly on the whips, i knew that will be a hard challenge for me. So i was glad to find the Caliber Whips instructions, binding on these (i call it) hedgehogs! It took a week or so, because i‘m not such a multitasker to braid and watch videos at the same time. 😄 For this reason i wrote a to-do-list, where i can look in between and i found out some rules to follow. The first part isn‘t very exciting: Start between 1 and 2 bottom (1b = nail 1 bottom, 1t = nail 1 top) to 4t to 2b to 5t to 3b with u1 o1 to 6t with u1 o1 to 4b with o1 u1 o1 to 1t with o1 u1 o1 to 5b with u1 o1 u1 o1 to 2t with u1 o1 u1 o1 to 6b with o1 u1 o1 u1 o1 to 3t with o1 u1 o1 u1 o1 to 1b with u1 o1 u1 o1 u1 o1 that‘s the 6B7L, simple so far. Now we fill the gaps between the nails. Going up means to follow the upper strand, going down follow the strand below. When reaching a pair, separate them. This will happen more and more as further we get and once we started to go u2 or o2, we repeat that until the end of the line (up or down). Always start a new line with under 1 and always end the line with under something (1 or 2). As target i name the nail on the left of the gap: to 4t: o1 u1 o1 u1 o1 u1 to 2b: u1 o1 u1 o1 u1 o1 u1 now over the „starter“ and left of it (but right of nail 2b) to 5t: u1 o1 u1 o1 u1 o1 u2 to 3b: u1 o1 u1 o2 u2 to 6t: u1 o1 u1 o1 u1 o2 u2 to 4b: u1 o1 u1 o1 u2 o2 u2 to 1t: u1 o1 u1 o1 u2 o2 u2 to 5b: u1 o1 u1 o2 u2 o2 u2 to 2t: u1 o1 u1 o2 u2 o2 u2 to 6b: u1 o1 u2 o2 u2 o2 u2 to 3t: u1 o1 u2 o2 u2 o2 u2 to 1b: u1 o2 u2 o2 u2 o2 u2 and at last a short line up u2. That‘s it. ✅ Have fun! 😉
Something you did not mention n the video, nor address at all, is the proportions of the jig itself, if you made your jig slightly larger, either in circumference or distance between nails, you will need more strand length to finish the knot.
I can imagine that if you wanna make it longer, you can just follow along with this setup, but longer. Or is there a twist? Does it have to be 6 nails around?
At 16:06 you can see the strand that goes around the #1 nail, it goes over on both ends whereas the rest go under then over. Anybody know how to fix it or is that just how this knot is?
Hello. Been trying to get the herringbone half of this done. Its impossible to see what sides of the pin you're on! You keep spinning it around really fast. It would have been altogether better if you took the time to take the turns out of the cord before the tucks and avoided 70% of the vid messing about. Any chance of an edit a bit slower and stating which side of the pins or which gap? I'll keep trying though.
Try watching a video on this knot from Nicks Whip shop. He is so much better at explaining them and is easy to follow and plenty of instruction. The only difference is Nick doesnt use a jig. You will thank me later.
have you watched this video? you say one thing and do something different. makes it very confusing . I can follow you but ..............................just saying
