This is a tutorial on how I tie a collared bomber in specifically a Labatt Blue Bomber pattern. Tis is a popular dry fly pattern in Canada for targeting Atlantic Salmon

Oh man, I was like, how is he going to tie in the hackle through the body 😈 I guess the deer hair hides a lot haha. Cool trick just using the thread. I think I’m going to try some bomber flies for trout and smallies here in Pennsylvania! That outta be neat!

That is a very attractive fly. It didn’t look like you put a lot of effort into packing the hair body, but it came out highly packed. I wish I could do that. It’s a real fight for me to get the body packed. My compliments. Some questions: Are you using unwaxed thread & what is the size & brand of thread are you using? Glue/lacquer - I have a lacquer bottle with needle tip that I would like to use for more accurate placement, but I’m not sure what I can put in it that won’t clog the needle. For head cement, I usually brush on uv resin or nail polish but the brush is not as precise as I would like. What are you using?

Im using UTC Thread. Im using the Shor Fishing needle applicator, when it clogs up i just use a lighter and heat up the needle quickly and it seems to work. I replace the bottle every few months.

Looking to start tying some flies, any suggestions on equipment to get started ?

Where are you located? I would either suggest talking to a shop you feel you can trust or go with a reputable tying kits like the Shor Fishing kit. They have a couple diff price points but i can honestly say the tools and vise are good. Some kits I’ve seen are just terrible and you will likely replace all the tools within a year.
