How to Tie a F.A.B.-They Don't Have to be Gaudy

The F.A.B. (Foam Arsed Blob) is one of my favorite attractor patterns. Like most, I typically tie my F.A.B.s in bright, flashy colors designed to trigger a response from a non-feeding fish. However, I have also found that darker F.A.B.s featuring a more natural color scheme also work very well.
My Dragon F.A.B. suggests immature 'Darner' dragon nymphs. Immature nymphs often feature a bright green to chartreuse thorax.
I fish this fly on various sinking lines using a series of 3-4-inch strips followed by a prolonged pause. If legal to use multiple flies, this pattern also fishes well on a washing line setup.

Sorry to comment on an older video but do you have any advice on when to fish a booby vs when to fish a fab?

You are more than welcome to place a comment any time. Most times my choice is more of a guy decision than anything else. If I want more buoyancy such as as when using a sweep line or in shallow water I would probably use a Booby. FABs aren’t as buoyant so I tend to use them if hooking bottom isn’t much of an issue or concern. Both flies have different actions when stripped. A FABs back end pitches up on the pause. Booby’s tend to wobble more. Of the two I tend to use FABs more often. A great question Cheers, Phil

I tie boobies in "natural" colors but for whatever reason never thought to tie similarly colored FAB's. Thanks for the video!

Thanks. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed my video. Although I used all kinds of attractors including Booby’s, FAB’s might be my favourite. They have worked so well for me. Cheers
