22 - 21' is right. If you bought a git down rope it would be 14'. With the 22' mecate you'll tie off 7 - 7.5' for the mecate reins and the remainder for your 'git down' rope. I loop the lead rope in my belt others through the keeper or another loop on the saddle. ! If pulled it pulls right out! You don't want to be dragged in a wreck.
