Great video. Love stampede straps especially horse hair. But the cotter pin kind pop out with even light use. Busting a hole in a fur hat is a whole different thing.
I put the strap through the sweat band. Two holes in the sides and two holes in the back of the sweat band. I cut the holes with a half inch chisel. I would Never put a hole in the hat body. Good tip about using boot laces.
You know i was thinking a good tool to consider for making the hole would be an awl, a awl might push the strands of straw apart not cutting them but stretching them apart.
"Standing all day and beeing comfortable" why do people say this? Boots are comfortable and i have never had a issue wearing my boots all day long. Maybe if you play dress up and dont wear boots every day you get tired
Super helpful Colorado is very sunny 300+ days . So I really love Palm leaf hats for UV protection. my hats have fraying. If any one has a Sunbody Gus hat with the 6inch brim your thoughts. Cheers from sunny Colorado.
Hat at the dinner table is grounds to catch a tanned hide. Like touching the thermostat level. And if I adjust the thermostat in my own hotel room, I dont sleep well. Dad or Grandpa could show at any time. Yeah...PTSD type stuff😶🌫️
Instead of putting the coffee into "warm" water, I bring the water to a boil, take it off the heat source and *slowly* bring it back to a boil. If I do it to fast it boils over and there's a mess.
I love this, thanks! All the detail is great and very helpful. I do have a few felt hats I need to reshape or touch up, and now I know excactly what to do. Cheers!
I went from a cheap dollar store cowboy style hat, to a $100 felt hat over night and I'm not looking back! Crown is wider but shorter, and the brim is wider, it feels and looks so much better!
Talk about the crowns. I want a round dome shape crown that fits snugly to my head and a large brim. I've only seen this style in old books and old photos.
I'm bald and my head shape puts me square between a 7 and 7 1/8th. Got the 7/18th and used toilet paper to give me an extra 16th of an inch so it fit perfectly!
Good deal! My advice is to always by 1/8th of a size too big and pad it to the correct size. Palm leaf hats I get 1/4 larger to allow for shrinkage. Seems to make the perfect fit each time.
I am going to my cousin's wedding in August in Milwaukee. It's going to be black tie. In March, I went to Nashville and bought a cowboy hat. I was wondering if they are allowed at black tie weddings
Yes, if that’s all you have! you would just have to use the iron on the area you want the shape. Make sure it’s plenty warm and then shape it and allow it to cool. Repeat that process on any other spot you want to fix. Make sure you use plenty of steam and not just heat.
Hey there Cowboy! I want to tell you how much I appreciate your videos and all of the information you have shared. I had a couple of pirate style hats made. I wanted to make a few adjustments in the shapes. My husbands is a Cavalier style. The upturn was too hard of an angle, like an extreme Taco. I got out the ol' teapot. After watching 3 of your videos, I gleaned enough info to feel confident that I wouldn't mess them up. Now they are nearly perfect. They are too big because the hatter doesnt put in sweatbands. Most of his clients wear a headwrap. We dont, too dang hot! So I'll eventually put them in but for now I just shimmed them. Just in time for our Pirate Festival. Thanks again!
Did you ever go to J W hats store in SLC? It is a great place if you want a fine well made hat of any style. He made hats for a lot of prominent people around the world.
Thank you much for this video. I am new to western wear, I don't even live in the south but I really love the style. Now I know proper hat etiquette, thanks!
Yes, you sure can. There are some limitations, however because the original crease will show through depending on the style of crown you choose. I typically recommend people just customize or augment the original shape that is in the hat, whether that be adding cutter bumps or doing a full punch out, etc. Thank you for the question, holler if you have anymore questions or need help deciding on what to do with your!
