I’ve recently started wearing ties to work (even though no one else does) and have been loving the Old Bertie knot. Saw it the first time from your videos and find that it works perfectly for me. Thanks!

In 38 years of tying my tie I have never once allowed the back blade to be longer than the front. IMHO it is no different than the tie showing below the collar. That being said Kirby is entitled to tie his tie anyway he wishes. He also encourages a manner of dress that is quickly becoming extinct. So thumbs up Kirby.

@Konsaliki
@Konsaliki 4 года назад
I've found that different ties need slightly different "dimple management". Ties similar to the make of Kirby's brand work just fine with the pull-and-pinch method. But I happen to have some examples in my collection that need pinching *above* the knot before pulling tight. Others need some additional manual arrangement under the knot before pulling tight etc. It all depends on the materials, the construction and the type of knot you prefer or which a particular tie calls for.

I’ve been viewing many of your shoe videos of late and I have a question: How come you always seem too fail in mentioning the interior? What’s the shoe lined with? Never a word about what’s inside. Also; what about air drying the interior of sweat? I use the Dry Guy and never wear a pair of shoes two days in a row without allowing the interior too completely dry out.

Your "short blade" is longer than the wide blade. Are you going to tuck that in the shirt or re tie it?
@Konsaliki
@Konsaliki 4 года назад
As Kirby stated, a slightly longer back blade is perfectly all right. If you don't like the "sprezza" vibes, that this creates, you could of course tuck it in. :)

A half Windsor with a center dimple is way more elegant in my opinion. The center dimple in 150 CM slightly wide Tie is nice. a little wider of a tie is perfect for a double dimple. The problem with the BERTIe is that it is unclean in the back of the tie. In a business situation the peak of the large blade must be in the center of the buckle. the skinny blade in the back being to long is indicative of the tie not being tied in the matter it was made. A 140 cm tie tied in Bertie with a slightly less wide tie would leave a 3" below the sown tag. and the peak dead center on the buckle. Military precision for a dress uniform is clean, classic and welcoming look. I have tried all sizes and shapes, i have several 150 cm ties, it is possible to over think it, but a little effort and a practice, the tie should be as easy to put on as a pocket square... I have a lot of respect for Kirby and the details he shares, i just happen to think about ties differently. Whether for church, business meetings, a date with the wife, or just because, find a tie that works for you and the occasion. Kirby hardly ever wears belts, so in that matter the bertie adjusted may work. But for no reason should you see white between the tie and the top of the trouser.

YES TO THIS! "I would NEVER let the thin blade be longer than the full blade. To me, this just screams "first time I've ever worn a tie," My only exception to this rule is if you are tying a tie intentionally short to go under a vest. It goes without saying that neither blade of the tie should show below the vest." ~ Dan Diehm
