What are leaders and tippet and when do you use them?

Some of the most fundamental materials in freshwater (and saltwater) fly fishing are leaders and tippet. A leader is a clear piece of monofilament, often tapered, that allows the angler to keep a constant connection with his/her fly and keep it hidden from the fish. Tippet is a similar material that's used to extend your leader as it gets cut down. Plus, we go over the BEST knot to tie the two together, the Double Surgeon's.
