How To Tie A Trout Spey Intruder - a quick and easy Mini Trout Intruder Streamer Fly. Trout Spey Fly Tying tutorial. SUBSCRIBE HERE: www.youtube.co...
The intruder fly was popularized by Pacific Northwest steelhead anglers and mini or micro intruders are becoming very popular among trout spey anglers and fly tiers. Not only are these Mini Intruders easy to tie, they are also very effective at catching trout.
The larger profile, yet minimal design allows for easier casting than more bulky trout spey streamers.
The materials we used in this fly can be swapped out for your favorite intruder materials. We love greens, blacks, browns and whites for tying this pattern. We also suggest the use of some weight at the front of the head if your fishing conditions demand the use of weighted flies.
I happened to us a lot of Pheasant materials for this fly, but substitutes will still make this fly a great one for swinging for trout. You can also use a forward hackle at the very end to protect the marabou and add even more water pushing characteristics.
Tight Lines!

Do you ever put eyes on these? Or will they just get ripped off during a skagit cast?

@@Belbivdevoe Absolutely, eyes do quite well on most flies with skagit casts :)

Cooper Landing Fishing Guide are you using resin to lock them in ? I know with dumbbell eyes I use just super glue but with the stick on eyes it would be nice to know how you do them

You tie clean and precise. Excellent work and other comments show there’s excellent tiers out there. Words like profile, sparseness, density, buggy ,wiggle etc indicate knowledge of fishing and how to incorporate these qualities into an offering.💪🤙🤝

Like the use of "common materials" that most fly tyers already have. Nice and clean that looks like it will provide a lot of movement. Thanks for posting. BRAVO ZULU

Very nice looking fly! I'll definitely give that one a try. I've got a box of size #6 hook octopus hooks that I think I might use. Looking forward to fishing this on the Yakima this year. Looks like a great sculpin imitation.
@CooperLandingFishingGuide
@CooperLandingFishingGuide 4 года назад
For sure! And with those #6 hooks, you could certainly tie a smaller version of this fly and definitely shorten up the tail quite a bit. I can't wait to hear how they do for you! Thank you so much for watching and the kind words!

Looks like a great fly. Have you tried using a slightly stronger/bigger front shoulder to give it slightly more of an umbrella shape thereby increasing the profile and apparent size? None of this may be necessary if this works. :) You’ve clearly got more river time that I do. I’m just curious about the bigger size. The intruder’s whole point is a large presence with apparent translucence. This may be more a big deal for Steelies and not trout. Thanks for sharing. I’m going to tie up some of your patterns and see how these Colorado trout like them. Make it a great day.

Thanks for watching! The mallard gives it a stiff prop and shoulder for the pheasant marabou head and the body chenile also acts as a prop, imcreasing the profile as well :) The goal with most intruders is profile/size without all.the bully tying materials. I've found this pattern to be just the right amount of "size" and profile without needing to add much more. Thanks again!

I’m curious about your trailer wire. In some of your other flies you use 65# PowerPro but in this one you use Intruder Wire. Any particular reason fir that? Also, have you had issues with the intruder wire breaking?
@CooperLandingFishingGuide
@CooperLandingFishingGuide 2 года назад
Hey Chris! For some flies I really prefer the wire (never had it brrsk), for others I use the power pro simply as an alternative. Overall, I mainly try to show a variety of materials to use for trailer material in case folks don't have access to one over the other. I prefer wire for most intruder style flies and braid for articulated flies.

This could look like a bait fish, or young trout or salmon or large "bug"

Thank you! The main thing in bait is the result. If he catches it, then everything is fine🤝
