HOW TO TIE ASSIST HOOKS CORRECTLY
This is a very common error I still see people do and hopefully with this video, things are explained so people understand why assist hooks are tied the way they are and should be.
It might be a very small thing for a lot of people, but this small thing has a very big impact on how the hook travels and ultimately, on how the hook acts on contact with the fish. This small adjustment is a major factor in hooking percentage.
The hook's origin of pull is the driving force behind the hook's purchase of the fish's mouth - it can alter the trajectory by switching which side of the hook the origin of the force is, and this is exactly why for assist hooks in particular, you have to be careful of the placement of the line where the origin of pull if going to be.
Don't make this mistake when you tie an assist hook!!

The reason is simple Max - if you keep ask someone the question "why" - it exposes what they know and understand and not a lot of people can stand being asked "why". My videos are based on a simple premise...I answer the "why" before you ask it.

This is the exact same concept when tieing a snell knot. The line exits the front of the hook/ or point side. The basic 'test' you see a lot of people do is to drop the rig into a plastic cup/ tube. When you pull the line out record the hookup ratio where it snags the lip as it exits. From your teachings in jigging the nail knot is used which will work the same as a snell. In normal bait fishing I find hook shape and design determins which knot will work better, snell or a uni. My general rule, if the hook eye is bent back its best to use a snell knot, if its straight i use a uni.

are you familiar with assist hooks? if you are not, this is just an illustration as assist hooks are mostly bound and not really knotted.

@TheFishingKit the point is the action of the line pulling on the hook is the same concept as to why many love using snell knots. It's more common to use a snell with circle hooks but I would say any hook with a eye that's layed back to the rear benifits. Jigging is your area I only know from what you have shown in the many videos you have made. I am going on a fishing trip in November- December where I there will be some deeper water and stronger currents. I have a few slow and fast jigs to try out for the fun of it. Where I am from live baits/ bait is what everyone does. Soft plastics is very popular style of fishing but I am looking at minimum of 30m to 80m with a fairly strong current. It's going to be hard to get a soft plastic down that far, I have looked at making a ebing rig but sourcing the right wire seems hard.

Kind of a dofferent dynamic than with livebait but yea once you get in on it and get into the nuts and bolts, you will find the differences.

You can practice on them, but they aren't really jigging hooks, its best to practice using the right hooks so you get used to the lengths when you measure them against the jigs.
