Hi I really like your tutos, thank you. I tried the flower tie, but the middle stayed white.. I tied really tight, and pour the colours and pressed so that the colors would penetrate.. So I I was thinking if tieing too tight might be the problem maybe?
I am glad you found my channel and got some help from this video ... I have many playlists full of videos depending on what you want to make... have fun exploring them and ask question if you need help ✌️
I don't just like your Videos, I absolutely LOVE THEM! Why? Because, you have taught me and inspired my, talent has grown because of you! I want to binge watch! So inspired, I just invested in a bunch of blanks, and a new Storage Unit to hang my Shirts, and keep my Tie Dye acuterments, Chemicals Dyes Etc, Thank you so much, my Mentor, and Teacher! Blessings to Ya!
I love it! Going to do one today! Picked our design because I like how the petals came out. I'm doing it to mimic a Zinnia or other flower. I grow lots of flowers and they are my inspiration. I've been dyeing since 1991. But haven't dyed much in the last decade.
Thank you so much! .... and the one I am wearing while I make the star flower tee is what I call a Quantum Spider V Scrunch and here is how I made it : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V-Z17iLi_r0.html and the one I am wearing for the reveal is the Darkside of the Moon tee, it is a stitched design, here is a video of how I made that one as well : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F_wMza2VmQ8.html the super speed version of the Darkside video : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ftMG8Ca1RP4.html
I can literally rewatch the same videos multiple times because each time I learn something new! I love how clean the lines are and how vibrant they are! I'd appreciate it if you showed the prep of the tapestry before you tie it! Much love from a fellow Tie-Dye fan💚
Awesome! Thank you! ... I am glad to be of help. As for the prep, I do a pre wash in hot water and synthrapol soap (some dyers use Blue Dawn Dish soap) ... and then I soak it in soda ash for 20 minutes ,... here is a video on soda ash ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vD1MSB0sAY8.html then I squeeze out the excess and then I spin it in the washer to get most of the liquid out, I like my tee and taps to be barely damp when I fold and dye them, just make sure your spin cycle does not spray water as this would dilute the soda ash.... so if it does you can set it to half way through the cycle, or turn the water off to the washer if it is easily accessible
Thank you and that is awesome... I wish you all success!! and I did a variations video as well on tea towels to show how to change up the positioning of the flower or change the number of petals : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H7qvx7v86oU.html .... have fun!! 🥳✌🏻
i just did a twin sheet set with this .. the flower is yellow, orange and fushcia .. in the outside i scrunched it and put turquois, green and purple . i hope they turn out nice .. the pillow i did first and i love it .. but that fitted sheet was a bit tricky ... thank you Mr. Tiedye
i dyed many many years ago in my youth. Now as a proud granny I am preparing to attempt it again. I have been watching your videos repeatedly in preparation. Thank you, I am confused about the ash soaking process .Could you give me some pointers. I am truly enjoying your videos.
wonderful ... and yes I will help however I can ... the Fiber Reactive Procion dyes need a setting agent and that is what soda ash is .... I buy mine from dharma and I have a video on how to mix it .... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zeI86jPen5U.html ..... one cup to one gallon..... then I soak my cotton items for 20 minutes and then wring out the excess ..... then I use the spin cycle on my washer to spin out even more of the soda ash until it is just damp,(but make sure that the washer does not spray water during the spin cycle as this will dilute your soda ash) this is how I like to tie and dye most things .... and you can save the soda ash for the next time you tie-dye, just put it in a jug... and as mine run low I just add more to it ... hope this answer your question, let me know if you have more questions
MrTieDye I meant the T-shirt you had on in a video, but it wasn’t YES. It was Dark Side of the Moon album...Pink Floyd. My mistake. For some reason I always associated that album with the group YES. Sorry to confuse you.
OH... yes I love Floyd and I do plan to do a video on that design sometime soon, just gotta get caught up on bills a bit ...... it is a stitched design so you might check out my Intro to Stitching video ..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fIopj6TZkes.html
Thank you !! Always look forward to watching your videos so simple to follow 🌈🌼❣️. Do you think you could show one on the Dreamcatcher fold I would be so grateful
Omg mr tie dye could you show us how to do the dark side of moon shirt ilu got on iv had request for then n have no idea on how to get the triangle .. and this tapestry video is gonna up my game so much thank u !!
The Dark Side tee is a Stitched design , here is a video of how I made it : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F_wMza2VmQ8.html here is a super speed version : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ftMG8Ca1RP4.html have fun with the Star Flower design ✌🏻🙏
it is a stitched design and yes when I get a chance, I plan to show how I do it, but for now you can check out the technique I used in this intro video ..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fIopj6TZkes.html
Thank you and that is a Bright Green that I mixed myself, I use 3 parts Lemon Yellow and 1 part Turquoise .... and that gets me a nice bright green .... add more yellow and it gets even more limey ... more turn and it is a darker green
Getting ready to start my 2nd star flower tapestry, the first came out awesome, came for a little refresher :) Do you have a video for that Dark Side of the Moon tee your wearing when you reveal those? My brother used to have a store bought tee similar to that, but yours is so much better, would love to see how you made it!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge....
that is great, as for the DSOTM tee..... I hope to make one sometime soon... it is a stitched design so you can check out this into video to see the process if you want ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fIopj6TZkes.html
WOW!! This is my favorite tie dye video so far of all I have seen. I like how you describe every step and show the finished product. Thank you. Liked and subscribed.
He actually did NOT describe every step. He did not explain what sized sheet was using OR how he folded it. There's a huge difference between hamburger them hot dog, and hot dog then hamburger folds. I've been trying to copy this video for HOURS copying every single step and I can't get my sheet the way he has his. Not enough details of how he folded it to begin with.
@@KaleidoscopeKara I am sorry you cannot get this. He folded the 'sheet' in 1/2 to make a rectangle, then in 1/2 again to make a square so it would fit on his table. After ward he folded it into the 'airplane fold' which is triangle then triangle all on point, folded sides together for both sides. I hope that made sense.
Yeah, I got it now. I kept making a mistake. I used a twin size sheet so I ended up with the 2 star flowers instead of one but if you want, I'll send you a picture of what it looks like. I didnt have the same colors so I had to work with what I had
yes I did both tees... the one while I am tying is a modified version of the Quantum Scrunch .... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q73_2IaOQLU.html ...... and the one I am wearing during the reveal is a stitched design and here is how I made it ..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F_wMza2VmQ8.html and thank you... I love what I do
Thank you ... the VW Bus is a stitched design and I do have a couple videos to show the process. Once my hand/wrist heal up I plan to make one more stitch video and it will be on the VW bus , but for now here are the videos if you want to check out the process and give it a go now ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fIopj6TZkes.html and here is a more detailed design .... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F_wMza2VmQ8.html
wonderful, I have heard of other dyers using it also, I tried it once, but I like my kite string or sinew... but it is all about finding what works best for you :)
I buy most of mine from Sunshine Joy : www.sunshinejoy.com/Tapestries-Hippie-Wall-Hangings/blank-white-tapestries-for-tie-dye you can easily sign up for wholesale with them to get a even better price ... and they sell a lot of tapestries so they go in and out of stock, just keep checking back Also, I buy some from Bo Dorsey, he is a dyer on FB, but also sew his own tapestry blanks and sells them as well
I stared at this pattern for a year trying so hard to figure it out... I finally did & tried it out but it didnt turn out at all! Came here to see if I really figured it out & I did... I think my problem is it was too thick (t-shirt)... may over dye it with black!
yeah this one is difficult to to a full one on a tee just because of the fold, but I have a variation video where I do it on a tee in to ways... off the corner works pretty good ..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jCIYEEpzjlw.html and yes , doing an over dye on the other tee is a nice way to save a tee that did not turn out... just in case, here is my over dye video .... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CPI_23w6JkY.html
Awesome as always. I’m starting out and was wondering how I could put a St. Louis Blues logo in a blue and yellow mandala? Not something I’d generally do but it’s a special request from my wife and you gotta keep them happy!
That design is one that I would either stitch or paint with dye .... so I would figure out how big I want the logo and draw out a circle in that size and then tie it off, add some plain water so the dyes do not creep in and then I would put a plastic bag over that part to keep it white ... then tie and dye the mandala around the circle ... let it batch and then wash, dry and then you can draw out your logo and stitch it OR, after washing, gather and dip the white circle in soda ash, spin out and then let it dry and then you can mix up some thick dye and paint the logo in I hope this helps you create the tapestry your wife wants :)
I use fiber reactive Procion dyes and I buy mine from Dharma because I live on the West Coast, but there are many supplier of this type of dye and that is what gives me the bright colors
are you meaning the dyes?? here is my Beginner's Playlist with lots of helpful tips and tricks and the 2nd video shows how I mix my dyes : ru-vid.com/group/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo
I mostly use cotton for my tapestries.... the tapestry blank in this video came from Sunshine Joy, it is number 75902 >>>>> www.sunshinejoy.com/Tapestries-Hippie-Wall-Hangings/blank-white-tapestries-prepared-for-dyeing ........ they have many sizes of white tapestries available for purchase to the public, I also use flat sheets when Target puts them on sale, either the full or queen size, and some times I buy fabric, either from Dharma or JoAnns and cut it to the size I need
yes it can, here are a couple ways I have put the Star Flower design onto a tee shirt :ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jCIYEEpzjlw.html
do you mean the after care of a tie-dye tapestry?? I recommend washing them in cold water with other colors and then in the summer I like to hang them to dry, mostly because I love tie-dye on the line, but it also helps them last longer, but I do put them in the dryer as well
it would be the same way I did this tapestry... the folds are the same no matter how big or small the fabric... the sheets just take longer and more space to fold them up.
most of that it comes down to how much they mix, so I am careful in how I lay my colors down... here is a video where I work with Purple and Orange next to each other : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TAo9BgtpZ2Q.html
Hi mr tie dye im from indonesia . i have one question . What liquid for mixing the colour powder . Is that soda ash liquid ? Because my tie dye's is so faded after i rinse it
I mix my dyes with plain water.... but I pre soak my tees in soda ash as that is what activates the fiber reactive Procion dyes I use ... what kind of dyes do you use?? how long do you batch your tees for?? I leave mine for 48 hours as that gives the dyes more time to bond... and I work with 100% cotton tees as these dyes do not work on poly, so if your tee is 50/50 cotton/poly, then the tees will look faded
@@MrTieDye thanks for the answere before . I use the remasol powder for the dyes and i used cotton combed 30s shirt with 100% cotton, and i presoak my tees in soda ash before to. I leave my shirt just 12 hours, maybe its one of my mistakes. But i watch your video, you tie your shirt in dry shirt . Did you colour it after the shirt you soaked dried up ? And what the next step for finishing after the shirt you leave in 48 hour ?
@@arvyizdihar2076 I soak my tees in soda sh for 20 minutes, then i sin out the excess in the washer so they are barely damp, this is how I fold and then dye them while they are barely damp... IF I do a mandala fold, I still fold it damp and then I let it dry out for a few days before I add the dye. ... then after it sits for 48 hours, I do the rinsing and washing, here is my process .... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t0M_nstKkjM.html
yes I can do that .... most of the ones I dyed had black sleeve so I did not have to block them off, but I will find one with different sleeves and do a demo
yes I plan to, it will be a long video so I need to wait until I have time to do it... but it is a stitched design so you can check out the process now if you want ..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fIopj6TZkes.html
do you mean how long do I let the dye set up?? if this is your question, I let them sit for 24-48 hours after I dye them .... let me know if this does not answer your question
You can do a King Size sheet just the same way as this tapestry, but, if you want more petals on your star flower, then yes you can do one more airplane fold before you spiral it ... but you will have more layers, so make sure you work at the saturation by dyeing from the top only until you see dye soaking through to the other side ....... Also, you can let it dry for a couple days after it is all tied up and that may help with saturation.
@@craftymom1964 lol ... they can be done, but they take a lot of patience .... for those I start by lining up all four of the corner ... so fold in half tuch two corner in the other two and then those two on top of the other two.... now all four corners are together... lay it down and smooth things out until you have your center spot to start doing the rest of the airplane folds ..... and a helper to hold some of the stretchy edges while you fold the middle helps also ... and you are welcome :-)
@@MrTieDye Maybe I should do the scrunch method in the same colors for the fitted sheet lol. I have king and body size pillowcases as well, and they don't fold up even close to square
LOL... yeah that could be much easier than trying to wrangle a fitted sheet ... as for the body pillow,... you could fold up a corner of each end of the pillow ... the second part of this video shows the airplane folds on the corner of this tee ..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jCIYEEpzjlw.html ... so I would do the diagonal corners
