Skip to 3 mins for the step-by-step knot tying. In this video, I go over how I tie my pike leader. I use 80lb power pro as my mainline and tie an Alberto knot to my 80lb leader line. A three-tag end knot connects me to my size 2 Mustad or 80-120lb Spro duo lock snap, and I’m good to go for pike fishing!
Monofilament and fluorocarbon leaders are a great leader option for retaining the action of your bait. I also use the pre-tied 80lb Spro fluorocarbon leaders for soft plastics, and pre-tied titanium leaders for jerk baits and spinnerbaits where the action isn’t dramatically affected by the leader material. As I mentioned, I opt for 80lb leader when targeting pike as I have had 50lb snapped off clean, and I have had instances of my line getting frayed by teeth and gill plates.
I hope you guys learned something from this video and tight lines!
