Hi Maggie, If you notice around 5:10, the Rabbi begins tying cobra stitch knots. The middle eastern Jews tie these knots in increments of 7-8-11-13. This means that after the first two main knots, you tie 7 cobra stitches, then two more main knots, then 8 cobra stitches, two more main knots, etc... I'm not sure what the Hebrew of this custom is but hope this helps.
I was actually looking for the Hebrew words that the gematria stands for actually. The Hebrew phrases and in English so that I know what it means. Thanks though!
The requirement to have a blue dyed string is based on a passage in the Torah. However, in the current times we aren't sure exactly where the dye is derived from, and so most opinions hold we do not include it in the Tzitzit. Hope that helps.
@@NegenElgaza I see your point with creating a Torah Law problem by using the wrong color of ink. However, by eliminating the blue strand that you are commanded to add into your TzitTzit, are you not creating the very Torah law issue you are trying to avoid? Would it not be better in G-d's sight to make an effort and add in a blue strand(right or wrong shade) than to say, "we don't know the proper shade so we're just not going to use any"? I am not trying to be disrespectful, I truly want to understand the way of thinking here.
The people who don't use blue are mostly going by the idea that it is better not to do something that you don't know how to do than try to invent some sort of workaround for yourself, especially since this has become the tradition. See Numbers 10 regarding "foreign fire." Even if you are trying to do the right thing, it is best to do what G-d says. If G-d wanted us to still be able to make the blue, He is capable of making that happen...
