Ohh that's what this is called? I never new the name of it, but is great for tightening up ropes on the old mackerel trap back in the day

This is a classic hitch! It is a unidirectional hitch that is preferable to the original Prusik as well as the Schwabisch because it thwarts binding so well. It is exceptionally popular in the rock and alpine climbing realm; not so much among tree climbers.

Another CLASSIC !

It's definitely a classic! I already have a full length video for this hitch from very early on, but I wanted to make a "Shorts" video for it as well. From your experience, is this hitch used very often for tree work? I find that it's much more popular among alpinists, rock climbers and rescuers. However, whenever I go climbing any trees, I do always carry the purple sewn loop shown in the video somewhere on the back on my harness because it has so many diverse applications when it comes to self rescue and doesn't jam that much with enough wraps. But I also carry an eye to eye prusik and spare Hitchclimber pulley just in case as well. For emergency descent purposes, I would see myself gravitating more towards the eye to eye prusik.

@@Knot-orious I have seen " variations ", but, I myself use a Blake's Friction Hitch, Prusiks, Alpine Butterfly, vaiations of a Bowline etc. But, I'm 55 now- I do a lot of solo felling , and though I know many Climbers, I work w/ few others throughout the year. But that's why

@@Knot-orious Eye to eye prusik has many uses. Another mainstay in my ' Knot Arsenal '.😅

I made up a saying to help young Cub Scouts remember. The ghost peaks behind the tree, around goes its body at least 3 and then kicks itself through the face. Works pretty well even for 8 to 11yr olds.

Nice! That's pretty clever! I'm sure that's really helpful for those kids! =-D

Any pros and cons over the prusik?
@Knot-orious
@Knot-orious 6 месяцев назад
It definitely releases more easily than the standard Prusik, but the downside is that it is unidirectional, whereas the Prusik can be loaded in any direction.'

if the loop is long enough is it okay to have more than 5 wraps?
@Knot-orious
@Knot-orious Год назад
Yes, especially if you're using a hitch cord that is of larger diameter than 7mm. Another way that you can manage the length of a longer hitch cord is to do the usual 5 wraps and then tie a Figure 8 or Figure 9 knot in the remaining loop before connecting it to your harness. This will reduce the overall length of the loop that connects to your harness. I hope I answered your question! Let me know if you have more questions! =-D

What length cord on this friction hitch? Thanks

It's a 25 inch sewn loop (the purple one). The neon green one is about the same.

Icicle knot right?
@Knot-orious
@Knot-orious Год назад
No, the Icicle Hitch is actually a different knot altogether. I haven't made a video for that one yet, but I will! Thanks for your comment! They are similar, though.
