Tightening the loose, wiggling toilet seat to stop its wobbles. This is because the china bowl hole is too large for the bolts
The repair is to use tapered "wobble stopper" washers cut to size. t is an easy, cheap fix.
I'll ship some from my store right to your door. Order here...

Thanks, great tip, worked perfectly for me... Used this tip on new seats that were not fitting tightly. Job done!

Thanks so much! This has been a very annoying problem for as long as we've lived in our flat. We actually even had all the right pieces but had installed the rubber washer below the seat rather than above!

Lawrence, Kohler toilets use the 'blind' screw/anchor system. The bolts should not wiggle in the china, but if the bolts are lose in the hinge you could 'spacer' them w/the proper size o-ring to reduce or eliminate the gap. I'm not a fan of the 'blind' attachment system because it uses proprietary anchors and you have to sent out for replacement parts.

Mr steady seat has a good idea, a little far away and I can't get them wholesale in the USA but I'm looking. My tapered washers still work fine.

Blair I need to get a hold of that rubber washer. Will you post to UK? I'm having the same issue as Lawrence- I am unable to get to the screw once it has been inserted into the hole- it's a 'blind' or 'closed' ceramic bowl. Any ideas what to do in this situation? Will the tapered washer work in this instance?

most common problem is the seat hinges wiggle and not how it's fixed to the bowl. single bolt on either side for a hinge is always going to be a problem. if they designed things correctly in the first place half of us wouldn't ever have the problem. check first to see if it's the fixing to the bowl that is loose or the actual hinges on the seat that causes it to slip off of the bowl

Galaxy Tab , the china is fabricated with some play because it is hard to fabricate to exact tolerances. The washers allow a flexible solution solution to eliminate the 'play'.

What about those commercial type toilet seats? I work at a local grocery store & i do janitor type work there, cleaning the restrooms. Those curved-looking pieces that sit on the back sides of the toilet seat, two of them have gave way over time. They're made of hard plastic & they broke in half the other day as i was cleaning the toilet in the men's bathroom. The toilet seat is a Bemis brand name. Any suggestions on what i can do to fix that seat?

Miztaziggy, sorry for being gone so long. Contact Kohler, they may send you new fasteners at no charge. Good luck!

This is a great solution, however I am in the UK and can not find them in local independent hardware stores, major hardware retailers or plumbing merchants. Not one stocks anything like these, do they have another purpose, name or description that I can use to track them down? Thanks for the video, I have subscribed.

Try a plumbing supply house, an old one that would sell washers to install a 3/8" supply line to a faucet. That should work. cheers

Who else is watching these kinds of videos on a shaky toilet seat taking a massive shit hoping they don't fall off?
@001GenLee
@001GenLee 11 лет назад
Those curved pieces sit back there on the hinge, acting like spacers so the seat doesn't move around. Well, since they broke, the seat is wiggling around badly. It's only on one seat in the men's bathroom at the grocery store where i work at. The women's bathroom, one of the toilet seats in there, one curved piece broke off a while back. I guess when the toilet seats are used alot in public places like that, parts tend to wear out over time.

what kind of flat driver bit are you using? mine has the same hardware as in this video, but that plastic screw is not very strong and I don't want to damage it. The slit on the bolt is very long. The biggest of my flat-head screwdrivers still felt too small for it.
@MrHardware1
@MrHardware1 5 лет назад
You may have to purchase a big mechanics screwdriver. Large slotted screwdrivers are hard to come by.

I have been trying to find the tapered rubber washer. Can you tell me if Home depot or Lowe's carries them and what they are called? And a picture of the washer uncut, the video did not show a close up.
@MrHardware1

It is a 3/8" basin cock washer. Used in the 1970's and before. Most plumbers haven't seen one in 30 years. Only a true old style plumbers warehouse would stock them. Order them from us and we will ship

I'm wondering how u screw the screw down if it's a blind screw in a slightly smaller hole in the washer, or not for that matter? Think using a pair of pliers or wrench would take forever.
@MrHardware1
@MrHardware1 7 лет назад
This wedge washer is for through bolts. It probably won't work on the blind anchor that some toilets have.
@alhambraTilingGroup
@alhambraTilingGroup 7 лет назад
I don't know the technical name of stuff. What I described as a blind screw is probably a bolt in that there is no head and no pointy bit.

My SEAT is nice and tight; it's the LID that is loose and wiggling. What do I do?
@MrHardware1
@MrHardware1 2 года назад
Dry it well and use ‘self adhesive felts’ on the lid in select locations.
@cookiequeen3291
@cookiequeen3291 2 года назад
@@MrHardware1 Hi! The problem is with one of the two metal pins--one on each side of the lid directly above the screws that attach the seat to the base. Each pin is enclosed in the same material as the seat itself. Do you know if I can hammer it back in place (it's protruding out) or if it needs to be screwed back in--which I would not have any idea what type of tool to use. Maybe I just need to buy a new seat.....
@MrHardware1
@MrHardware1 2 года назад
@@cookiequeen3291 I can’t say, too many kinds made…. You could possibly tap the pin back in place if you remote seat from the toilet.
