We've teamed up with Lowe's to create a kitchen and mudroom from scratch, and we're sharing the entire process from start to finish in an effort to take the fear out of a ground-up renovation! (See past videos in our feed.)
In this video, we're sharing how we tiled our kitchen backsplash. We promise that YOU can do it, and it's a great DIY skill to have in your arsenal. The pearl colored tile we chose completely transformed our kitchen in a weekend!

What product do you use to gave a clean even edge where tile butts the window casing or is the casing removed and undercut to hide where the tile stops?

Did you start at the floor base board or the countertop 👍🏻

Looks neat! Well done! I wouldn't hold a child so close to the worktop though. Then again, the baby is adorable so I'd want to show them off too :-)

Wonderful video! I was wondering if you had any tips for how to tile those corners? Do you leave a certain amount of room so there’s no tile overlap? We are complete newbies. Thank you for any help you can provide.

We leave just enough of a gap so that we can grout and/or caulk the corners. :)

Did you remove the "support board" where the stove goes?

It looks good, but I'm worried about the tile lasting if the place is left unheated from time to time over the winter since this is a cabin
@yellowbrickhome
@yellowbrickhome 5 лет назад
We keep it heated to a low heat when we’re not there. The home has a full HVAC system!

What size spacers are generally used for backsplash 1/16th or 1/8th in the kitchen. Thanks Mate...
@yellowbrickhome
@yellowbrickhome 3 года назад
I don't use any spacers! Most tile have an eased edge so you can put them against one another, and it will give a small space for grout.
@stewc9339

You should never start a whole tile in the corner - you always start from the centre

Also they didn’t check the layout and got lucky with how the cuts were around corners. Always check layout before starting !

Love this tutorial! Used it to add a backspash in our kitchen and it turned out beautiful. Would you recommend sealing the grout? We used a lighter color and I find conflicting advice online.
@yellowbrickhome

It depends! Some grout will specifically say that you don’t need to seal it. Check the bag and if it recommends it, I’d seal it.

Any tips on removing haze? We had some tiling done on a floor and the installer, though highly recommended, seemed to have gotten a bit lazy at the end of the job. Also any tips on getting such a thin caulk line? Do you just cut the opening of the caulk very small? Ours always comes out way too thick. :(
@yellowbrickhome
@yellowbrickhome 6 лет назад
If it's been too long and the haze has settled in, there's a product you can buy that's a haze remover. You spray it on and use a paper towel to wipe it off, but it does take some muscle. You can find it by the tiling supplies at the hardware store! And yes, we cut the opening very small. :)

Yellow Brick Home Thanks so much! Do you know if the haze remover product removes the sealer on the tile?
@yellowbrickhome

Ooh, great question. I'm not 100% sure, so I would ask one of the pros at the store or triple check the label on the bottle of whatever you buy!

A wet saw for ceramic tile is overkill and not needed at all. Also, not using spacers leads to a sloppy look.

Is easy when you have a perfect wals. But with my walls is imposible . Also if anyone does it without this diamont nashine?

Forgot to say how incredibly messy that back spray is from the tile saw ,we put a sheet of plastic behind it ,to stop it from spraying everywhere, an that a tile saw won't cut your fingers or skin, they work on only hard surfaces.

Know the difference between PLUMB ( VERTICAL ) and LEVEL ( HORIZONTAL ). When you hold the torpedo level vertically, you're checking the plumb NOT LEVEL

You’re not supposed to start at the bottom or in the corner! Seriously.

Of course you start at the bottom. 🙄
@doptimist
@doptimist 2 года назад
@@jaydaawg.8191 Ehm...no you dont. The bottom might not be flat. You start at a baton or line in the middle of the wall that you know is straight and true because you put it there.

@@doptimist I've done hundreds. Always check. Usually only minor discrepancies. Don't overthink it. Git 'er done!
