Hey I’m off to Ayrshire next week and I seem to remember you taking some shots of a stream and gully in south Scotland, but I can’t find your video… any tips would be much appreciated. BTW, my birthday this weekend and I’m hoping that the proof of my wife’s love will materialise in the form of a copy of Chasing Awe!
This was great to watch. I made this trip from Seattle back in 2014 where I started in Glasgow and drove to Edinburgh, up the east coast, across the north and then back down the west coast where my last couple of days were spent in Oban before returning to Glasgow. It was me, my camera, my clubs (so I could play a round at St, Andrews new course) and a car. Upon visiting Mull and Iona which was amazing in itself, I also visited Staffa. All I can say is that it was an almost spiritual experience being there on top of that island surrounded by gorgeous views and a feeling of being the only person on the planet. I managed to shoot the cave as well and can relate to the awe of it (and the pucker factor) as I stood on the edge of the section you noted is now gone. It was an experience I hope to have again when I visit next time. Thank you for this video and for taking me back to one of the most amazing places I have ever been. If there is a way for me to share a few of my shots with you (not for critique or anything,) I would love to.
I like when it comes to risking your life for a shot. That's why I'm in photography, it takes me where I'd never go. The best shots are always not easy ones)
I really took to your infectious exuberant enthusiasm when you were in that cave, just ENJOYING what you were seeing and doing. Very nice finished composition too
Nice one Gavin, when I see you post I can't help but hear the voice of your father saying "whats the bugger done now!" well it appears the bugger is doing pretty good stuff. impressive shot.
07:56 SLAP!! Amazing!! Mull sounds sweet as!! Love the tutorial at the end dude. Great value added to this multifaceted video. Hats off once again Sir Hardcastle. Hats off.
Greg! Fancy meeting you here! 👋🏼😃 See, l keep telling you, you need to come out to Vancouver Island! It’s where all the brilliant photographers live! 😉
@@DavidSenteno Lol. Imagine that eh. Madness. I'd have to find Glasgow first 🤣 Also the boys might not know I'm a Partick Thistle fan ⚽ which may or may not hurt my chances.
fototripper - Anytime you’re in the Comox Valley, looking for waterfalls.... I’d be happy to tag along. Cause, you know, Landscape Photographer of the Year.
Excellent episode in the continuing saga... Both the walkthrough vlog of the capture and how you worked the image in post very helpful. Thanks for sharing!
Very interesting show of how it was done - awesome place, need to go again as you can land on the Island now. Looking forward to your take on Faroer, Adam
Another great location and image coming from it. I really liked the information on working the PS images and how you created this out of 4 separate shots. I have always wondered about this type of technique and plan on incorporating this into my workflows.
Thanks for the walkthrough. It's always interesting to see an image taken in the same place, and of the same subject, by two or more persons. Your image and Uncle G's image of the same cave are world's apart. Each image evokes a completely different visual and emotional response. Well done, Gavin (and Uncle G).
I say, that was a belter. Good tutorial to. I will of course, wait to see Adam’s potential award winning shot of this cave when he produces his vlog. I was in some caves a few weeks ago in Northern Ireland. I’ve also been to see The Giants Causeway in the past. A must visit place for any photographer. Funny thing, having seen your videos of Vancouver Island over the last few months, I often wished I could visit there one day and then “BAM”, I’ve only be invited to a wedding on Vancouver Island would you believe.Yes, I know, Seren-bloody-dipidy and very fortuitous in the extreme. I shall of course, have to bring my camera, a clutch of lenses and a sturdy travel tripod. Who’d have thought, me, on Vancouver Island. Now, who do I know in New Zealand. South Island of course. Non of the north island nonsense.
Hey Gavin, I can see you got some freaking fun in the cave! Very good shot and thanks for the tips, I will try to use them sometime. Happy weekend, bye!
Thanks Gavin, I just came back from a shoot in Drumheller of the badlands at sunset and I will definitely give your technique a try. More like this would be great! Cheers man!
