In the video I used Daily Notes, which you can configure in the Daily Notes core plugin. I keep them all in a folder called Daily Notes so they don't clutter up the rest of my File Explorer in Obsidian. I do believe that Day Planner can be configured to use Day Planner tasks in other notes though as well though.
I'm not sure how to troubleshoot without a Windows PC, but there is a spot here where you can report a bug: github.com/ivan-lednev/obsidian-day-planner/issues
Sounds like maybe you’re using an old version of the plugin (that feature was added not too long ago). Have you checked to see if there is an update available for the plugin in your Obsidian Settings? That’s the first place I would look to try and fix the issue you’re describing.
Hi Mike, I want to use the new remote calender integration in day planner and I put my calender link in it (all as described in the set up section from day planner) but my icloud calender entries just will not show up. Do you have a solution to that? Couldnt find anything online. God bless!
Thanks for the great video, Mike. I'm still new to this whole obsidian thing, tried to use the plugin, but it tells me "Dataview is not loaded, tasks won't show" . when I click on the timeline it's not responsive in anyway. Do you know how to fix this ? :D
I do, sorry, it's not real clear in the video... you do need to have the Dataview plugin installed: github.com/blacksmithgu/obsidian-dataview Install and enable that plugin in Obsidian and it should fix it.
This is very helpful, thanks and subscribed! (And great audio quality, by the way....) Question: I would find it helpful to be able to add text directly into the time-block box, rather than create the block, and then have to go to the day note and add text there. Same with checking a box. Is this a limit of Obsidian, where a plugin like Day Planner can only harvest text from a source, but a plugin cannot add text?
Thanks for the kind words, glad it was helpful 🙂 Re: adding text directly, I don't think that's a plugin limitation, but seems to be a Day Planner limitation. But I'm not a developer, so I could be wrong 🤷🏼♂️
I’m currently just using the Daily Notes core plugin, but if I was making a recommendation I’d probably say use Periodic Notes because it gives you a bunch more options.
Hi, Mike. Do u insert some daily moments in your Daily Template in order to not copy/paste it. For example Breakfast, dinner, walk e.t.c.? Some cyclical tasks
I actually time block with a fancy fountain pen in a notebook every day (digital time blocking didn’t stick for me). But I’m all for setting up a template if you had certain blocks you were going to repeat all the time. Personally I would do it via a TextExpander snippet so I could trigger it with just a couple keystrokes anywhere on the note, and I’d name the blocks that absolutely never change and fill in around them. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the really useful, well-crafted videos and content, Mike. Can Day Planner integrate with Google Calendar, enabling an integrated, dynamic view of events/meetings and time blocks?
Day Planner doesn't I'm afraid. There is another plugin called Time Ruler that integrates with yet another plugin called Full Calendar, and THAT plugin can integrate with Google Calendar. But that's too much duct tape to rely on IMHO 😂 If you are feeling adventurous, here's the link to the Time Ruler plugin (that's where I'd start): github.com/joshuatazrein/obsidian-time-ruler
You can, but there is benefit in having things linked in a single application for some. I actually time block in an analog notebook, but I know lots of people who use their Daily note for their task list and this makes it easy to plan out when they're going to do those things.
My Timeliners doesn’t work?.. I tried to create it from Day planner timeliner and still it disappears, but note is created and good. Also it says Dataview is not loaded? I tried to understand guide for dataview and I can’t
Good day, tysm for this guide just wanted to ask ifthey change it to only detect new items from checkbox? Cant seem to make it work by bullet points just like in 4:18. Pressing ctrl and shift doesn't edit items together also. Thank you so much!
found out in the changes they only made it to detect checkboxes instead to avoid clutter for those who write everything in bullet points for the ctrl / shift - the icon doesn't change on the top right but still works as normal
Hi @mikeschmitz, thanks for the video, i appreciate it man! I do have a question about the day planner plug in. I get this error above the planner where it says "dataview is not loaded, tasks won't be shown" What could be the problem and do you know how to fix this?
Love the video! You basically convinced me to ditch my current system and switch to Obsidian tasks completely! Thanks! I'm striggling to move tasks as a group like you did around 5:30. Those dots never change to the stack. Any idea why? Thanks! EDIT: FOUND IT! It's behind a button on the settings menu in the sidebar labled "Drag Mode -> Push Blocks
@@MikeSchmitz In your video "How to Do a Personal Retreat in Obsidian", you reference a different video on obsidian charts. I can't find it, could you point me to the right video?
@@alextrotman9317 not 100% sure what you're referring to, but here is the link to the timestamp for where I walk through the Obsidian Charts code (it's also in the template file, link in the description for that video): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D2VfeT1dsxY.htmlsi=fzou9B7m3TNFLmPS&t=144
When I make new time blocks, it defaults to checkboxes. If I try to make blocks using bullet points, it does not show up on my day planner timeline. Is there a potential fix to this?
Looks like this is new. Got this message when I updated the plugin saying that list items without checkboxes will no longer be show: share.cleanshot.com/xmKx8Zh1
This is my first video from your channel. Thank you for sharing valuable information of Obsidian. I just subscribed your channel and Obsidian University. Cheers from Brazil.
Hi Mike, thanx for the great video. I am about to establish time blocking in my daily routine. It would be great to do it completely in Obsidian though I receive a lot of appointments from outside through my calendar. I would like to see that my calendar items are to be seen in the time blocking outline. I do not want to open Obsidian and calendar side by side and only time block the spare times that I will see in my calendar. I wanna do it only in one app.
There is a way to do this, but it’s a little too much technical duct tape for me… there’s a plugin called Full Calendar that can pull in your calendar events, and there’s another plugin called Time Ruler that can integrate with Full Calendar. I prefer to use an external calendar, but if you really want calendar events in Obsidian that’s how I would try to do it.
You can adjust the default block size. Away from my computer to check but I believe it's in the settings menu that shows at the top of the timeline view at the top right
