Top working continues! Here's Part 4 in the project to convert a 'Valencia' Pride' mango tree into an 'Ice Cream' mango tree. In this video Chris checks on the 'Ice Cream' grafts and cuts back even more of the 'Valencia Pride' growth. This tree is well on its way to becoming an 'Ice Cream' mango tree!

All the 4 parts seen and you are really explained the grafting techniques excellently. I have recently planted some local hibrid varieties of mango plants. I will try to graft some other varieties on the existing plants by observing your techniques. The tools you are using is also very nice. Thank you.

first time i see u have a video clip show in details like this . i like it alot. thanks. i had an asia aple peal tree . it growth tall and i have to trim it like the way you did.

In some places, growers of "apple mangoes" or what I believe are referred to as "ice cream mangoes" graft a sapling of one yr old former to a one yr old regular mango at the base of a cut latter type's trunk. The joint is made about 10 inches above the soil level. The new tree starts to yield harvest 2 or 3 years later.

Almost every fruit on this tree will be Ice Cream, but occasionally flowers can emerge from trunks and branches. If this happens, we might get some Valencia Pride on this tree too!

Hi, I'm just a beginner for grafting. when I grafted it became successful. And after two weeks sprouts came out from the scion and started to grow. But then after few days it turned brown and died. What do you think happened. What possible things might have happened and what to do to prevent those from happening? Or can u do a video showing those things? Thanks for your informative videos.

First of all, congratulations on your successful graft! It sounds like a fluke that it died after sprouting out. Possibly wind knocked the graft around and disrupted the union. Or maybe a fungus got into the graft. It's hard to say, but I wouldn't worry moving forward unless it keeps happening. Happy grafting!

Just found your channel. Love the content. Haven’t watched all videos yet. How old are these Grafts and when do you think said grafts will bear fruit.

Thanks for watching! The grafts on that particular tree are about two years old and they are flowering this season. How long it takes a graft to produce depends on what rootstock it's on. If you graft onto an older, established mango tree with a large root system, the grafts can produce fruit in less than two years.

Hey Chris. There are two trees in my farm the fruits(totapuri) of which I'm not a fan of. I wanted to top work one of these and graft on malgova and alphonsa. I was wondering if it's ok to leave a part of the parent shoot or would I be better off snipping it completely? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Chris, do you or anyone else sells scions of the different mangoes for grafting and is it possible to ship the scion to another part of the U.S. and it still be viable? I am in the SW desert and there are not much places that will sell just the scion as there are not that many mature mango trees here. You have to buy the whole tree if you can find it.
