For generations, the cattle ranching industry has been a male-dominated field, with women playing secondary roles. However, in recent years, there has been a shift towards greater gender diversity, with more and more women taking on prominent roles in the industry. In this article, we'll take a look at the evolving role of women in the cattle ranching industry and the important contributions they are making.
Historically, women's roles in cattle ranching were primarily limited to support roles, such as cooking, cleaning, and childcare. However, as the industry has evolved, so have women's roles. Today, women are playing important roles in every aspect of cattle ranching, from breeding and genetics to feed management and marketing.
One reason for this shift is the changing demographics of the industry. As older ranchers retire and younger generations take over, there is a greater focus on sustainability, efficiency, and innovation. Women bring unique perspectives and skillsets to the industry that can help drive these goals forward.
Another reason for the increasing presence of women in the cattle ranching industry is the rise of agribusiness and corporate farming. These larger operations often have more diverse workforces, and women have been able to find new opportunities in these settings.
One area where women have been particularly successful in the cattle ranching industry is in breeding and genetics. Women have shown a talent for identifying and selecting superior genetics, and many have become respected experts in this field. By breeding superior animals, women are helping to improve the overall quality and productivity of the industry.
Another area where women are making significant contributions is in feed management. Women have a natural talent for understanding animal nutrition and ensuring that cattle receive the proper nutrients and supplements. This is especially important in today's market, where consumers are increasingly concerned about the health and well-being of the animals they eat.
Marketing is another area where women are making an impact in the cattle ranching industry. Women are particularly adept at identifying market trends and developing new strategies to reach consumers. This has led to the development of new markets for beef, such as grass-fed and organic, which are becoming increasingly popular with consumers.
Of course, there are still challenges facing women in the cattle ranching industry. One of the biggest obstacles is the perception that ranching is a man's job. Many women report feeling isolated or facing discrimination in the industry. However, there are a growing number of organizations and support networks for women in agriculture, such as the Women in Ranching program, which provide resources and opportunities for women to connect and succeed in the industry.
Another challenge facing women in the cattle ranching industry is the physical demands of the work. Ranching can be a physically demanding job, with long hours and often difficult working conditions. However, many women have found ways to overcome these challenges, such as using technology to make their work more efficient or partnering with other ranchers to share resources and reduce workload.
In conclusion, women are playing an increasingly important role in the cattle ranching industry. From breeding and genetics to feed management and marketing, women are making important contributions to the industry and helping to drive innovation and sustainability. While there are still challenges facing women in the industry, the increasing diversity of the workforce and the growing number of support networks are helping to create new opportunities and pave the way for a more inclusive and dynamic industry.

I know that when teaching especially the younger ones you just want to put them on the sidelines and jump in and do it yourself but you definitely have the proper patience and are teaching the proper way. Even if it makes me a little dizzy I still appreciate you teaching the younger ones how to video and giving them a chance, I'm sure it makes them feel awesome and appreciated. Also Ridge has made huge improvements on not only his ranch work but his video skills. He's a lot steadier and isn't getting as sidetracked. Definitely parents that can be proud of all their kid's!

It's ashamed this platform won't let you show how castration is done. I'm pleased to know you preform by surgery. Back in my day the rubber band castration was being suggested as a more humain way. I noticed the dog was enjoying the spoils. We'd tie a bucket/can to the fence for collecting the oysters. Those small calf's have about the right size.

I watch your videos as soon as new ones are posted. In this video you say that you need to be paid more because of your patience. I say that you are probably the most patience person I have ever seen. You work so well with your kids and everyone of them know how to work. They are so well taught to do what they are asked to do without any questions. The respect that they have for both you and your wife is so nice to see. We need more parents like you who are raising their kids the right way. Not only do they help work on the ranch but they are also involved in school sports and in Rodeo competition. Good job and you and your wife both need an award for parents of the year. I would like to know why you named all your kids names starting with the letter “R”.

I really wish I had your patience. I wish I would have had a lot more with my oldest son. I was always afraid of him getting hurt. I grew up with a dad that didn't have patience. I probably heard the words "hurry up" more than I heard my name growing up. I got hurt several times as a kid. I got kicked in the face loading some calves when I was probably 9 or 10, and I couldn't put that out of my mind as my oldest son was growing up. I admit that I occasionally get nervous watching your boys work sometimes, but I'm not one of those people who criticize what other people do. I think you're doing it right and I did it wrong. My youngest son is getting old enough now to start helping out. I hope I can find patience to keep him involved and engaged with our lifestyle.
