This is something that has been plauging me for years from actually hiring help and transitioning my business to the next leveling. I will lookup the ebooks and work toward making the transition toward success. I can't thank you enough for the time and info you put in your videos. 🙂

Ultimately his work must please you and your work must please the customer to get $$$$$ and great references and referrals. Passing this vid to a friend who owns a plumbing service. Great advice

Man, thanks so much Keith! Today was one of those big days, my biggest yard was $150, I just settled out a new one.... 600 a cut... half the size of the 150 job... oh yeah!

Well said. I was a teacher before I joined the lawn care industry. I used this formula once I was a supervisor then manager. I’ve trained 100’s of people with this similar method. I’ve trained entire franchises doing this. I now own my own lawn care business. Wasn’t ever fired just moved on to my own thing. Thanks for sharing. I may or may not have been involved in where you got this strategy. I don’t care. So happy it’s out there! 👍🏼

I started my business last September. Tried running two crews simultaneously this spring and was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Couldn't get the training down because I was trying to grow too fast. I've gone back to just me and occasionally a helper or two. Can you do a video on interviewing?

A lot of good very useful information that can really help a newer lead. I'm an install supervisor and dealing with people/crew members can be challenging and on occasion impossible. I think dealing with staff can be more difficult than the actual install job. Well be safe out there this winter and have a prosperous new season

Keep up the great work I don't need entertainment I need great ideas and simple things that we can implement. This hit both nails right on the head!

You're training me and don't even know it. I have a job. I make $30/Hr. I've been doing it for 15 years. Even was dumb enough to quit and come back!! But I'm at the breaking point. I hate the job. I hate being a number based on profitability. I hate working for someone when I can work for me. So, I formed a LLC Tuesday. Been slowly building the equipment up to start lawn care because I genuinely love it. I love looking back at my yard when I'm done and be like, "damn, I did that". So, dumb as it sounds financially, I'm quitting. Cashing out my 401K to get through until the business gets off the ground. Granted, my wife has a very good job too. Is it dumb to start in the Fall? Probably. Is dumping my 401K out dumb? Probably. Is it worth my sanity and happiness? ABSOLUTELY.

I've had some people thank me for actually spending the time to teach them step by step on how to run the chipper and then shut it down and now couch them how to do it after I just showed them, so they can do it completely physically by themselves without me just doing it for them. But this one guy I went through the whole process on how to run the chipper. Then I shut completely down and wanted him to show me that he could do it without me. Because I had to get up in this huge mountain ash. Well this dude had a complete melt down. Saying that it was a complete waist of time to shut the chipper down so he could do it on his own that he has a iq of 140 or something I can't remember the exact # but its was comicle and he's real smart he made clear. Well Kieth you know those bigger diesel chippers have alot of steps to start and shut them down its not like just shutting a weed Wacker down. Yeah he actually walked right off the job because of it. I've had people like the guy you were talking about that already knows everything and well I'll be up in the tree and the chipper will make a grinding noise because they shut the clutch off first instead of lowering the rpms first. Then I say that's exactly why I explained and wanted you to go through the complete process before being just left to yout own device's. Yeah I got one guy why works with me on a part-time as needed basis, who is exactly like the guy you were talking about who says I got this and then does exactly what you didn't want him to do because he didn't finish listening to you. But I will admit he is about the hardest worker I ever had. One day I left him up at my Woodlot for about 5 or 6 hours and he split 2 cords of wood with nothing but a splitting Mal. So the $100 I paid him for that I made about $450 after paying him and I didn't have to split anything actually felt like I was cheating because I'm so yousta splitting everything. But I think spending 15 to 20 minutes to go over everything with your crew is so important.

I was training a guy for the past 7 years, taught him so many things. He just had a problem showing up on time and had a lot of no shows. When I finally had it and sent him a message to take a day off get it together and decide if he wants to come back to work, he quit! Now he is still jobless. Lasted a week for another company before they fired him!

Sorry to hear that, there's alot of it going on and I'm no exception, I don't do the no show thing at all though I am 1-5 minutes late 1-2 days a week depending on how much I've got going on, I'm building a business along with helping a friend build his full-time too, we give eachother work all the time!

Hi Keith! Very useful video thank you!! I just wonder about the teaching part. If you say to the new guy that she/he teach you how to do the task well because she/he did a good job, will she/he believe you just think that you say that to trick her/him into doing more work? As a manager or owner You suppose to know the work well. Don’t you? And not being teach by employees. Just a thought…

The game sucks with workers and clients. it also has its blessings. Over the years I’ve created a playbook system that I personally follow and teach my guys who work with me. Basic practices that should be on every site. When the practices are not followed most people weed themselves out. Or after a lot of thought, I weed them out. Either way somedays I want to quit… others I push through, others I’m on top of the world.

It's getting really hard for us to build a team this days it cost lots of money and this generation is untraceable thats why everything is going owner operator and large corporations the mid size companies are now owner operator and the big companies have the money for the turnover

Have you considered hiring women? We’re highly qualified and motivated. We are highly trainable and have something to prove. Plus it’ll make the boys work harder when their female co worker is kicking ass and not complaining about the weather. Only thing that a company would need to do is get smaller string trimmers and we will knock the jobs out Started out doing my own freelance landscaping and it’s Stupid difficult to get hired onto established landscape companies as a woman. Out of 80 nos I only got 1 fuck yes you are hired. Give women the chance. There are tons of young woman who are passionate about landscaping but are afraid to put in that application. In general landscape companies need to advance and start hiring female workers. Our attention to detail and being nit picky is actually the best way landscape companies can out shine other landscaping companies. Oh did I mention we actually care about work place safety and equipment maintenance? Women make up 6% of national landscapers. It could be better.
