One way you can tell if a guy is truly a nice guy is how they treat other people around them. I was engaged to a guy who would treat waiters and waitresses badly. I would intervene without embarrassing him in the moment and then I would tell him in private that it wasn’t ok to treat wait staff in a disrespectful manner. How he treated wait staff should have been a big red flag to me because he later on started treating me in a disrespectful manner. Lesson learned the hard way.

Great video! I've been working on something called "quiet confidence". I learned growing up to be argumentative and combative (Sicilian New Yorker...yikes). But lately, I've been exploring the concept of having a true, solid, inner self. And the phrase "quiet confidence" popped in my head. I think this is in alignment with what you are saying. Feeling whole, and secure in yourself, but in a way that doesn't require validation from others or a certain "neediness". I think, in order to be assertive (versus an asshole) it's imperative to know who you are first. And build upon that. A lot of us who experienced trauma were never able to be assertive because we were unclear what we are and are not okay with. It's an entire process. :):) But developing a strong sense of inner self is one of the most healing experiences. And this translates into healthier relationships all around. :) It's also great to hear a man's perspective. The mysterious inner workings of the male mind. Thanks Damon!

Thank you for your comment. I think it aligns with what I was saying here in the video. "The mysterious inner workings of the male mind." Haha... Love it.

As a woman...when a guy is being nice to me...they’re just being nice...inexperienced is the word...I don’t realize that they’re being nice because they’re interested...I’ve been programmed to think guys don’t like chicks like me so I don’t even acknowledge that possibility...but then again I attracted narcissistic and sociopathic men...so yeah...I just avoid participating in that part of socializing lol

That type of limiting belief, that guys don't like "chicks" like you, could attract narcissists and predators.

Life Mastery Gym....yes that’s exactly my problem...I’ve changed things up so much trying different avenues to avoid attracting narcissistic and psychopathic males and they always turn out to be worse then the previous...even to the point of mimicking the infj personality type...he went through and learned exactly how to act from RU-vid videos ...so my standards have gone way way up...I won’t give anyone a chance unless they meet certain criteria...idc if I’m alone for the rest of my life...i won’t live like that again...that’s actually where I learned this programmed way of thinking...it sucks because I was consciously aware of what he was doing and it still worked...everything he did to bring my self esteem down...I knew what he was doing and it still effects me...which is what brought me to this topic...I have to learn how to unlearn that programming

@@ralphmcmains16 are you can build yourself up from the inside out through working at the level of identity. It's much easier than trying to unlearn programming.

Thank you for informative video, NLP Gym! Yes, I think you hit the nail on the head. Some men confuse nice with passive, and they are not the same things at all. Normal, well-adjusted women want kind and considerate, yet assertive men. Women have a hard time feeling safe when they're with a passive man, who has trouble sticking up for himself and perhaps for her as well.

Indeed. Confidence and a strong sense of self is very attractive, arrogance is not.

What tools and recommendations are there for when those you really care for do not treat you well?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 2 года назад
Awareness of how people act passive aggressively and how to call them out when they do is an area that is good to focus on. Robert Greene's books are really helpful with dealing with people like this as well.

Thanks Damon. Where did you learn all this good and wise stuffs?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 года назад
Combination of taking a lot of trainings, learning from a lot of great teachers (and even some bad ones), doing the work and the practice myself, and summarizing what I've learned and teaching it. Teaching is a great way to gain clarity about what you already know. With clarity comes efficient action. All of these components when done together will accelerate your learning and cultivation of wisdom.
