How to train your dog to ride / Motorcycle dog travel tips 

I have a 10 year old chihuahua myself, and I don’t think he’ll ever be at risk of getting snatched. His damn attitude is larger than life. He snaps at any hand that comes near him other than mine. Makes sense using Scooter as protection. Obviously he needs a Harley sweater though. 😎

You know I've really gotten attached to Scooter, and I really worry about some low life coming along and grabbing him when you're away from him like bathroom breaks and so forth. I hope you always have him in your sights at all times, it happens every day brother, I can tell how much you love that little guy and I know he feels the same toward you Adam. Knew a dog named Princess , same breed , think her and Scooter would have been in luv , same thing . When owners were holding, did not touch, when on the ground, wanted love from everyone ! Cat's ain't t worth a darn, Had one stray that came around sittin' on my knee with her nose in everything I did workin' on the bike, and even rode a few feet on the saddlebag, but would jump off Luv and respects, Solo

When I first saw your videos, I subscribed because you have Scooter. I ordered the Pet Palace for my Yorkie and he rides with me a lot. Like Scooter, my Max loves to ride. He gets me up early on my days off work and we ride before it gets really hot. I am in East Texas. I watch every video that you put up for viewing and they are very good videos. Like you, I video many of my rides and put them up on RU-vid. I am 73 years old and have been riding for over 50 years, and, yes, I did motocross racing in my youth. Give Scooter a big hug for me and Max! Have a blessed week.

I put my 5lb toy poodle tethered in my tank bag with his head sticking out. We haven't gone on any long trips together yet, but he likes camping and doesn't seem to mind the bike either! It's also nice that I can keep an eye on him while riding.

My border collie mix used to ride in my truck, leaning into corners. One day I tied him to the back seat on my bike, and went around the block.. He didn't seem too impressed. The next day I was warming up the engine on my bike, went inside for something, and found the dog sitting on the seat ready to go. We made a few cross country trips together. The only issue was he always aimed for the tank to get on the seat. He would sit behind me Snoopy style with his head resting on my shoulder. My bike had a fairing, so he was protected from the wind. He also loved to kayak also.

Scooter rides again! I get a kick out of seeing his smiley face sticking out of his bag riding two up. Lol

Scooter is awesome. Great to see he has come into his own on the show. Wish my Ginger could ride with me, but I ride an old sportster, so my 60Lbs boxer would look funny sitting on the back. Have thought of finding a sidecar though. Ride on Scooter !!!

I have exactly the same pet carrier. With the included leash adjusted to the shortest position my 3.5 month old Miniature Schnauzer puppy can and has gotten out. If he can then any dog can. I just want everyone to know that if your dog has the desire he/she will be able to get out with out the zippered mesh cover closed.

I envy you Adam. I wish my dog, Blue, a Bichon Friese, who is just a bit bigger than Scooter, was as quiet as yours. My dog is like a bull in a China shop and Pit Bulls have nothing on him. If I was put to put him in a container behind me, he would probably knock down my bike, and me along with it.

Thank you for helping other Veterans. If you look at the picture it's of the taillights of my truck. Just getting back in the wind on a 07 sportster trike. Trike do to over 10 miles of dirt road into my place off grid. Going to have the trunk done onn my trike something along the lines of my tailgate of my truck. Keep the boss safe and you also. I have a few chi here in my place that are getting to old to take on a bike. One of my big dogs/kids rides on my/her ATV when I go feed here and my neighbors. She gets upset if I go to town in my truck and stop by the neighbors to feed without her. But if the ATV moves she is in her basket.

Your a very thoughtful and responsible pet owner and scooter listens better than my kids

Since we're on the subject of Scooter again. Have you ever thought of finding a way to (safely, humanely and comfortably for Scooter) hook a camera up on his head or shoulders and make a RU-vid video "As seen by Scooter" title or something like that? You know, like the whole ride. Love your vids and Scooter.

Thanks. While I appreciate your efforts to accommodate Scooter, there is nothing that really protects him. If I didn't do all I can to protect my dog beforehand, I would feel terrible. While there is no company that provides protective gear for pets I have started to make my own. While it is not as protective as human rider gear I believe she would survive if we went down. I encourage you to do all you can for Scooter. He's worth it.

My dog Lucifer, a Prague Ratter, is about the same size and have always loved riding in a basket in front of my bicycle so it was natural for him to sit in the pet palace and enjoying the ride when I got my Street Bob! Sidenote... what kinda monster gives a video about cute dogs on bikes a thumbs down?? My video got one too... wtf ha ha ha!! Ride safe guys!

Dude I have an Idea for Scooter...... A I R C O N D I T I O N I N G ---->When its HOT could you put a piece of dry Ice wrapped in a towel in the corner of the bag !!! Open the vents and top of course and he can lay against it etc. and it gives him that cool chunk in the bag, on a 100 degree he'll love it !!!! - As you know dry ice goes right to gas so nothing gets wet - so if his side vents are open and the top is open and you're moving, there won't be a build up of co2 at all - or - maybe even just ice in a zip lock bag wrapped in a towel but that will sweat and soak into the towel but still be cool on a 100 deg. day,,,, anyway Just an idea !!!!

My bulldog rides with me everyday. I even bought a new goldwing just for her. She rides on my lap and for long rides I built her a trailer.

As you can see i have a Pomeranian and took him for a few short rides when he was a puppy , but he has a collapsing trachea so i don't think he'd be able too handle it. God bless the both of you. Thank you for the tip regarding Dog classes (I have doggles for my dog) as I did not know about googles causing damage. I got them because the wind irritated my puppy. I always did short rides but plan to do longer ones so i'll work on something to allow him to not have to wear the doggles so long.

I have an Ultra Ltd and use a Grand Pet Palace on the rear rack, been thinking about putting a screen on it for Gus the Mini Schnauzer, now I know its the next thing I will be doing for him.

I just got my pet palace this week and my puppy loves it.

What a great video Adam, thanks for thinking of us dog owners! I am looking into getting my chi (Dinah) a pet palace, so I can take her on trips with us. I found the info regarding the goggles very helpful, as I was considering getting Dinah a pair, but not feeling like it's a necessity now. Maybe next time you could give us a closer look at how you attached the windshield and the bottom frame to the pet palace, it's a pretty genius setup you have there, one I'd like to attempt with the right knowhow. Scooter is such a cute little guy, and certainly has it made! Keep up the good work, and as always, ride safe!

@adamsandoval, I have a 14 yr old Miniature American Eskimo that I had told you before I wanted to get her to ride. I took a different approach in getting her riding but I can now proudly say that my Angel has about 200 miles on her so far. She loves the Grand Pet Palace.

Adam, another Great video packed with a bunch of useful info & tips. I'm going to start training my 2.5-year-old 5lb female Maltese to ride. I'm going to start with short rides with Brooklyn in a shoulder-bag around the neighborhood and see how it goes. I will buy the "Pet Palace" as well, to start getting her used to and comfortable in it. I ride a 2020 Challenger Darkhorse. I'll keep you posted. Not sure if f you guys will be at Biktoberfest in October, if so I will see you there. Ride Safe Brother‼ PS great idea with the windshield, I'll definitely do the same.

For Anyone Who Wants More Perspective- For 7 years now I've been riding locally here north of Daytona Beach, initially with my 2 previous Cocker Spaniels in my sideboxes, which I made by cutting a size 1610 Pelican Case in half, then mounting them on regular pannier racks. I had my dogs clipped-in with a cord to their dog harnesses. They had no eye protection after they both rejected their Doggles, but I installed a Lexan plexiglass mini-windshield for the Cocker Spaniel I have now. The polycarbonate Pelican case is as tough as anything. Whenever I've dropped the bike, when it hits the ground the sideboxes land at their strongest point, the bottom edge, which also helps protect the bike itself. The dog clears the box while staying on the cord, safe from bolting into traffic. The cord is just long enough to clear during a drop but not long enough to allow my dog to jump over the side of the box while riding. Not only does my dog NOT freak-out when it happens, but it's happened often enough that he's come to trust the experience, so he's LESS afraid, not more. The big pain in the ass is when I'm heavily loaded-up to travel enough that I have to unstrap and remove all my cargo to get the bike up again, then strap everything back on again. It can take about ten minutes and I'm cursing and sweating the whole time. My bike has also keeled over several times (a high-side drop) when I had my bike parked on the kickstand instead of the centerstand, with the other side of the bike (from my dog) heavily loaded and top-heavy. Then I'd see that my dog needs to take a quick potty-break. I'd take him out, walk a few steps, then hear my bike hit the ground behind me. It's always one of those "Why me God?" moments. For me personally, being a very private loner type, the biggest problem has been the excessive attention we get (I include the bike when I say "we"). Back when I was just planning this I thought I'd like the attention, but for me it got old fast. Quick, positive words by people who are just walking past is fine ("Wow, that's really cool" and they're gone). So are unique, interesting comments or intelligent questions. But most contact is just dumb and repetitive ("I see you've got your traveling buddy with you" and "He just stays in there like that?" until I think my ears are going to bleed). The silliest is being tracked down inside a supermarket, asked if those are my dogs on the motorcycle outside, thinking something bad happened to them, but only hearing "That's so c-u-u-te!" The worst is some old lady outside of a store on a hot day threatening to call the sheriffs on me even though my bike is parked in the shade (it doesn't help if my dog is barking for me). Those occasional nasty types never express caring concern or threaten to call animal control instead of the sheriff, which is a giveaway that it's not so much about my dog's safety to them, it's more about them projecting their childhood abandonment issues. On the plus side, most people take real delight in seeing my dog on my motorcycle,, which goes beyond a positive, momentary encounter - it's a sign that people aren't as spiritually lost as it seems on the news. I live in a very safe, quiet part of Florida, so safety from getting my dog stolen has been only a potential issue, never an actual one (that I'm aware of). Having my dogs clipped-in has made them safer, and it's possible to make the release mechanism look tougher to deal with than it really is. It's illegal to park on a sidewalk under a shop awning, but I've done that with no issues except one cop politely asking me to move it and one ordinary citizen being uptight about it (a fellow motorcyclist resenting it, surprisingly enough). This was in the same strip-mall, so the attitudes of people in a given area are a factor. I've since discovered my local Wal-Mart takes their 'service animals only' policy very lightly, so my dog is safer than ever now and that Wal-Mart gets all my business. I can say at this point, however, that anyone planning on bringing their dog with them on a motorcycle and runs errands at the same time, like I do, needs to get your dog registered as a service animal, even if it's just for your own peace of mind - but it mainly comes down to your dog's safety. The difference between being told rudely that your dog is not welcome here and leaving your dog outside to the human and natural elements or having those people keep their mouths shut so you don't sue them is all the difference in the world.

I laugh at myself sometimes. Im 6'1 250lbs but i have a small dog about the size of scooter. Makes me feel so unmanly sometimes but I love my dog Daisy. Guys like u and me most ppl assume have big scary dogs. But i love roding with my dog.

Some dogs just love to ride. Had a dog when I was young that loved to ride dirt bikes with me and I never trained her.

Great video, I love seeing Scooter! I need to find a way for my Border Heeler "Rowdy" to ride with me. But for some strange reason, he doesn't like moving vehicles.....unless his head is out the window, hmm...maybe a sidecar or trailer would work for him, but he's earned his name and I don't know if I want him wiggling around on a bike.
