So "it's what's inside that he can't stand" might actually be better tbh. Like he isn't angry or disappointed that Hiccup is small and weak, he can't really control that. But he is mad at Hiccups stubborn and reckless behaviour because he is putting himself and others in danger, and his behaviour is something that he can control.

This movie has more than everything. As someone who has lost body parts myself, I appreciate the fact that this movie addresses amputees. Toothless is technically an amputee when he lost half of his tail fin. It hampered his ability to fly and Hiccup created an artificial ‘limb’ for him. And of course Hiccup ended up an amputee himself by the end, which essentially gave the two of them something else in common to strengthen their bond. A great movie that’s not only entertaining but has some wonderful messages as well.
@__-fm5qv
@__-fm5qv Год назад
Even as an able bodied person this really struck me too when I watched it for the first time! Not only that but how they're able to deal with and even thrive with their disabilities in the later movies. Among other things it gives a message of "being disabled is not the end" and for us able-bodied folk to look past that. A lot of the time people may see the prosthetic before the person its attached to which is sad, judging them based on that, but in sequels the pegleg isn't even a thought!

But people are also allowed to like it when they see a character they can identify with and who's struggles are representive of their own. So beautiful and the score for these scenes (“Forbidden Friendship”, “Test Drive” and “Romantic Flight” respectively) are breathtaking. The whole film (as well as the rest of the trilogy) has an incredible soundtrack that never fails to make me feel things. John Powell is an S tier composer! Fun reaction, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed How to Train Your Dragon (2010) and I'm so glad that you were moved by Toothless. I enjoyed seeing it in theaters when it first came out on my spring break vacation, back in 2010. I haven't seen the film in its entirety in a while so I just rewatched it last night. BTW, I do hope that you carry on with the sequels as well because you're gonna love them. And there's also a live show that's based on the movie called Untrainable. It's now playing at Universal Studios Beijing in China. The park itself opened in September 2021, on the same day that my dad and I went to Universal Studios Hollywood.

Fun fact: a couple of moments in the movie were actually animation glitches that were kept in because they enhanced the scene. For instance, in the Downed Dragon scene Toothless's eye was supposed to be closed, but a glitch kept them open. The animators thought it looked better like that, so they kept it. In addition, at the olend of the Forbidden Friendship scene when Toothless was putting his nose into Hiccup's hand, you can notice some slight hesitation. That was another glitch that caused Toothless to repeat some of the frames, but was kept because it made the scene more powerful than the original draft.

My favorite moment in this movie is one she didn't show. It's very small, but I think hugely important. It's after Hickup and Stoic have their fight, and Stoic walks out saying "You're not my son." Immediately after that moment, the "camera" focusses on Stoic as he stands outside, and you can see the weight of what he just did hit him. He realizes right away that he made a mistake, but because of his stuborn pride, he can't take it back. I love that moment, because it shows that Stoic isn't just "the bad parent." He's not a bad guy at all, he's just a parent who has completely different values from their child, and because of that doesn't know how to communicate with him. And now, he realizes he may have made the biggest mistake in his life, but he can't make ammends, because he meant almost everything he said. I think that's a powerful message. Sometimes, when your parents yell at you, it's not because they hate you, even if you think they said they do. It's because they are people too, and people make mistakes.

I grew up with these movies and they mean so much to me ❤️ It hits especially hard rn too since the main online rpg game School of Dragons is shutting down at the end of this month after almost 10 years. And it’s been 3 and a half years since the last (main series) content (and it’s unlikely there’ll be any more). It's great that they have this tbh. It shows that Stoic isn't a deliberately mean or cruel father who doesn't love his son. But instead a father who desperately want to connect with and mentor his son, but just doesn't know how. Of course Stoic does have his fair share of character flaws, he's quick tempered and has issues acknowledging opposing view points which makes him extremely hard to talk to about things he doesn't agree with. That scene is then important because it makes it clear the disownment was done impulsively and irrationally, rather than with deliberate cruelty, and something that he'd very quickly regret.

I think you’ll love the next 2 films! :) Besides the movie trilogy there’s also short films, tv shows and comics that are fun and do a lot of good expanding the world building and relationships! Def recommend checking them out at some point! The shows (Riders of Berk, Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge) take place between the first and second movie (though the latter came out after the second movie) and the 2 main comics (The Serpent’s Heir and Dragonvine. As well as an unfortunately unreleased third volume called The Fire Tides that Audrie Greywind did an interview with one of the writers on that summarises it and is worth watching) take place between the second and third movie. The short films are Legend of the Boneknapper, Book of Dragons, Gift of the Night Fury (all taking place between HTTYD and Riders of Berk I think), Dawn of the Dragon Racers (between Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge) and Homecoming (after the third and final film. Though technically it takes place before the end of the film) The chronological timeline is something like this; How to Train Your Dragon (movie, 2010) Legend of the Boneknapper (short film, 2010) Book of Dragons (short film, 2011) Gift of the Night Fury (short film, 2011) Riders of Berk (tv series, 2012-2013) Defenders of Berk (tv series, 2013-2014) Dawn of the Dragon Racers (short film, 2014) Race to the Edge (Netflix series, 2015-2018) How to Train Your Dragon 2 (movie, 2014) The Serpent’s Heir (comic, 2017) Dragonvine (comic, 2018) The Fire Tides (comic, unpublished but will hopefully be released someday!) there's also a tv series with the same voice cast, witch is set before the 2nd movie. As well as a couple short films

I agree the music is truly epic. The first one in the trilogy is still my favourite of the 3. I have also heard good things about the TV series (Race To The Edge specifically).

Race to the edge is peak httyd and is the best part of the canon timeline without a doubt.

This trilogy, and the (unconnected, solo) movie Rise of the Guardians, are my favourites from DreamWorks. So emotional and such great stories. Thank you for a lovely reaction. Definitely Kleenex-worthy.

with this trilogy, John Powell put his name alongside the greats like John Williams or Hans Zimmer, each time i see his name on a movie, i know the music at least is going to be on point.

Well, let’s be honest, Addie… We all knew you’d get emotional over this movie, but it appears that parts 2 and 3 are going to break you. Good luck, and I can’t wait to see your reactions to them.😌🙏

Welcome to Dreamworks. How To Train Your Dragon 1 is arguably their best film, but all 3 parts of the trilogy are fantastic too. Other great films in their catalog that I highly recommend are the Kung Fu Panda trilogy, Shrek 1 and Shrek 2, Megamind, The Prince of Egypt, Spirit 2002, and Puss in Boots: Last Wish. Very underrated studio with peaks rivaling Disney and even Pixar.

I like the name you gave to your cat! Reminds me of, ages ago, when I was in college the marina where my dad kept his boat, the harbormaster had a cat named "Fishbait". My cat's name is "Wingman".
