I have some patterns I've never seen again to buy and they are favorites. I tried using a transfer pen. It's a bit fussy but so worth it. Made very clear and easy to follow. I'll keep using the pen!

Hello Sarah. This video has been very helpful. I’m old enough to remember - and used - the old iron on transfers that you could buy back in the day. I have seen these pens for sale but, frankly, was not convinced by them. This tutorial has changed my mind, so I thank you very much for this.

You can still get iron on transfers, I got a couple of different Books full of them for Christmas from my Daughter. You can trace them with these pens when the iron on bit runs out. A must when your as bad a drawer as I am. Lol.

Late to the party this week, but am glad that I finally made it here. Thanks for another great video, Sarah, and for the sweet design. The transition from stem stitch to chain stitch is fantastic. And I love the roses, ribbon leaves, and the beads. A touch of sparkle always brings a bit of joy to my life! 💖

I love that transition from stem stitch to chain stitch! It gives it more of a handwritten look. Thank you also for the repeat pattern ideas. I have been afraid to use this transfer method because of it being permanent and worrying that it might move and get blurred in the transfer. I was quite surprised that it showed up so well on the darker purple fabric. On a side note, this brings back fond memories of my Granny embroidering pillow cases and tea towels using iron on patterns you could purchase back in the 60's and 70's. ❤🥰

I always love watching your videos! I've been in a phase of rekindling my love of crochet and dabbling in knitting which has been fun, but embroidery is my true love. Watching this has made me anxious to get back to my stitching! I always learn something new from you, Sarah...transitioning from stem to chain stitch is a brilliant technique that I can't wait to experiment with. Thanks for everything!

Loved this. Wonderful how you turned what initially looked a very plain design into something really pretty with your choice of colours and the different stitches. The beads add that extra sparkle! I have the pen but this video has given me more confidence in using it. 👍🏻

Thank you for doing all the experimental 'leg work' with that Sarah, you've covered everything that it would normally take me a wasted afternoon and a right mess to find out!!.I had given up on the option of using any iron on paraphernalia after disastrous results with an iron on pencil a few years ago, which although it did work, it was so thick it was just impossible to get anything near a fine enough outline with, but the pen seems much better, and really loved the pretty 'sew' design too, thank you
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery 8 месяцев назад
It definitely needs some practice Rebecca! I think it would come into it's own if you wanted to do repeat patterns. (How much of a disaster can you create with a pencil?! :) x)
@rebeccat5738
@rebeccat5738 8 месяцев назад
Well it was my own fault really....It was quite a small design I was trying to transfer, and I could see the pencil had quite a thick tip although I did sharpen it to as finer point as possible. It looked ok drawn on the paper, but I made the big mistake of not doing a proper test run first, and went straight on to my embroidery fabric, but as I ironed it on the design lines just seemed to flatten out and widen, it looked like a small design had been drawn in a too big crayon, the lines were far too thick to cover in the stranded cotton, and the design was too small to take heavier stitching, and my fabric was ruined. To be fair I was still very new to embroidery, but it did put me off using iron on methods again. I usually like to either trace, or thanks once again entirely to you, prick and pounce, and my new favourite you have converted me to, the wonderful Aqua trick marker!. Honestly I quote you so often that if I am wondering how to tackle anything stitch related, even my husband now says, "oh I'm sure Sarah will know", and of course you always do!!, really looking forward to the silk shading x@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery

Hi. As always, a fantastic video, many thanks Sarah. I wonder if the Hemline transfer pencil is as good as the above pen? A sharp pencil may allow for finer lines. I may get one and try it. Be a great solution to the tricky issue of getting a fine design onto fabric :)

Hi....I'm a beginner at embroidery and am finding all the transferring quite intimidating. Can anyone recommend a transfer paper for ironing on (as show above) and also something suitable for printing directly from the computer that can be stuck on the fabric or ironed on please? I'm completely bamboozled when I search! Thanks so much in advance for any replies.
