In this video we look at ways to improve and rejuvenate tired old scratches paintwork.
We look to refurbish deep scratches and restore the paintwork to a better than factory finish using very basic tools and equipment .
We learn how to use sandpaper and wet sand damage from clearcoat. We look at machine polishing as well as discussing the advantages and risks involved.
Learn and improve with me and my channel as we seek DIY self improvement on our vehicles and take detailing to a new level.
Many of the consumables used in this video can be found at www.paintgear.co.uk
For the fine sanding packs & cutting compound described in the video please follow this link:

@@cvrpov i have a question for you mister, since you are quite a genius at work. I have a scratch on my hood thats like 20cm long, i have no idea how i got it. Its not deep, visible under a light/sun but it hounts me for 2 days now. Want to polish it out, but do i have to polish the whole hood or is it possible to polish just the scratch? I dont want to worsen it, thats why i aks you will be there a difference in color or something when i just polish the scratch. My car is 9 mnths old, it had a one step polish after i bought it cuz it already was swirled by the dealer. The color is acrylic white (blanq banquise from Stellantis). Thank you in advance

Hi Great Video thanks, sorry for the nieve question, do we not have to put laquer/top protecting coat over the finished paint, or do we manage that by polish protection? Thank you
@cvrpov

You have only sanded and polished the existing clearcoat, so just some kind of wax or sealant is needed.

great video, so how many times this car has left with this kind of correction, till there is no more clear coat and re spay is needed? And second question if you just compound it, how many time you could do it till there is no more clear coat? thanks a lot

That is subject to car brand / age and ownership factors. I would only recommend this process maybe twice

Hi, bought a paint restoration kit from paint gear. But being a complete novice with cars and paintwork, I think I've burnt the top coat of lacquer as my paint work won't buff up to a shiny finish instead it's a dull grey ish streaky mess.... It should be Midnight Blue.... Is there any way of salvaging this or would I need it resprayed? 😢

@liberty0758 7 месяцев назад
There's no way of accurately telling due to too many variables. Each car is different in terms of clear coat quality/thickness, how bad/good is the condition of the paint, what compound/pads you use to polish with etc.
@StreetChally73
@StreetChally73 7 месяцев назад
The best way to know for certain how much paint/clear coat you have available to work with is by having a shop (or sometimes an auto body paint supply store will have one, too) and have them check with a paint depth meter/gauge.
