If you're in Europe and want to travel for cheap, there's Omio, I often buy my tickets there like 25€ for London, from Paris, and sometimes less than 5€ for Brussels. And also the ouibus or blablabus, is really cheap depending on the dates you want, I study in Brussels and go back every weekend in Paris and sometimes my ticket costs 1.99€ so that's great

I've always wanted to solo travel for a while but it's so scary! I also feel like I need a load of emergency money "just in case". I was going to try to go for a month in Paris last year but got set back in my savings and was too afraid to go. I'm also super scared of being a woman and travelling alone, but I've heard hostels are the way to go! I would love to do the wwoofing idea! Never heard of that before!
@alwaysneedher
@alwaysneedher 4 года назад
Hostels ARE the way to go for this! I did some solo travel a few years ago, and while you definitely should make sure to either have emergency money or a credit card for a flight home, it is so much fun to travel alone. You can meet people in the hostels that you can explore the city with, or you can go off and do your own thing (it's amazing how much you can get done when you're calling the shots, lol). If it's your first time, I would recommend not booking rooms with more than like 6-8 people, and stick to mainly all-female. Most of my mixed rooms were just large groups travelling or couples, but it's definitely nice to just have all girls so you feel safer. Also, more than 8 people can be pandemonium - more people = more noise! Good luck and safe travels

I've traveled around the U.S. and one trip to Asia solo. I'd say do your research; Check out female traveler message boards and also read about the culture from a few different resources. Before or during your travels, try to meet up with other ladies who might be passing through. I met such great women this way! There are sooo many women traveling solo and I never knew until I started doing it myself. Once you're on your way, be wise; PAY ATTENTION to your surroundings, if your gut tells you something is shady then listen to it.

Actually my friends stayed in an organic farm for a month in Portugal and it was pure slavery - "few hours of daily work" was really close to 10-11h + cooking + cleaning. Besides - living in the middle of nowhere (no buses, cars or orther forms of transportation) and full dependency on your host. They didn't get to sightsee at all! :(

Sometimes it just depends on your industry! I am a wedding planner and a florist I work with goes to South America for a whole month every Jan-Feb ish because where we're located, we barely have weddings in the winter. It's also very hot in the summer so we're barely booked for July/August. Education is also an industry option because you get the entire summer off and long holiday breaks. My hope after I graduate college and go full time is to take all the time off to really travel. I can still answer emails from thousands of miles away. And if I'm 22 and making $30,000 a year but living with a roommate, I could easily save $3000 every year for travel.

there’s a few options open to you if you want to balance work with travel! 1. get a “work from home” style job where you can work remotely without having to attend a workplace. these kinds of jobs are likely to become more common after the pandemic! 2. get seasonal / temporary work. this can be difficult because you’ll have to be job searching continually & it’s hard to make much money from this kind of work, but it’s more flexible and gives you more time in the year to travel. 3. get work abroad! there are lots of seasonal / temporary jobs available in various countries, there are entire websites dedicated to these job listings. it would mean staying abroad longer, usually between a month to about a year, but there’s many jobs of this kind that cover things like travel, food and accommodation as well as paying you! 4. become self employed! this allows you almost total freedom, although if you want to travel frequently you may still need to ensure you can work away from home - which can be tricky since many people who are self employed do so by having their own business.

Each method of travel will have its pros and cons! Buses are cheap but they take longer, trains are faster and there's no security, which means no extra travel time, but they can be slow, and flights are fast but you need extra time for security and they can be expensive. Definitely just open Google Maps and take a look at what makes sense for proximity, and cross-reference it with methods of travel (for example, I planned out most of my Europe trip based on which airports Ryan Air flies out of). Blogs are an amazing resource as well, that's where I learned how to book airport shuttles and where to get subway passes or "tourist passes" for cheaper public transit or landmark bookings/tours.

A lot of flight search engines like Skyscanner actually rely on Google Flights for finding prices. However, since they don't have access to the actual algorithm the results aren't always the best. So you can easily get the same or better results through Google Flights as long as you don't login to an account, use some form of private browsing, and make sure to delete any previous browsing data.

You can mostly save money by 'paying' with time or flexibility. in Europe spending 7 or 8 hours on a bus or 4 or 5 on a train or 1, plus checking in so 2, hours to catch a flight. the same goes for getting accommodation a bus or train journey or a long walk away from the tourist hotspots.

you can totally travel cheap, yes, but I think a lot of the time the “misconception” comes from people not being able to take the time, and not being able to afford it in that sense. if you’re working a standard job, vacation time is minimal and anything more than that, you’re unpaid at best, or you can often struggle to negotiate being allowed more time. honestly, the number one thing I miss about freelancing is being able to build my own schedule to allow for weeks of travelling and it’s a key reason I want to go back to freelance life when it’s feasible but financially, logistically, realistically... it’s not feasible for everyone to have that lifestyle. cost is about more than just money

What did you do when freelancing? I want to get into it but i don’t really have any ideas yet

@@harmony2027 I was a copyeditor, mostly academic texts and non-fiction books. The freelance market is fairly competitive these days so my best advice is to pick something you already have some experience in (even if it's unpaid) so you can give credentials to future clients. Also helps to go through people you know or previous clients to find new ones. There are so many more jobs that are fully remote post-pand. though that that might be an easier route to start with! My job has let me take large stretches remote so I've been able to travel that way in the past two years and haven't had a good reason to go back to the financial uncertainty of freelance haha.

It depends on whether you can do without good service or not. For example, I prefer to pay a little more, but in return I get more.

Monalisa Das hi! I went through EPIK, which means I teach in public schools. This is their main website with all the info. You could also do hagwon/private academies instead but I don’t know much about that route. Hope it helps! www.epik.go.kr/contents.do?contentsNo=56&menuNo=286
