🚑 Emergency Response for Suspected Drowning Victims
- Situation Overview: Learn what to do if you encounter someone who may have drowned.
- Safety First: Always ensure your safety before attempting a rescue.
🌊 Drowning vs Other Emergencies
- Unique Challenges: Different from typical office emergencies, drowning often results from respiratory problems, not cardiac issues.
- Water Risks: Be aware of cold water temperatures, underwater obstructions, and currents.
🩺 Modified CPR for Drowning Cases
- Initial Steps: After ensuring the victim is on their back, open the airway and check for breathing.
- First Aid Procedure:
- If no breathing, deliver five initial rescue breaths.
- Follow with 30 compressions and two breaths for one minute.
- The 'Call Fast' approach: If alone, call for emergency services after one minute of CPR.
💡 Continuation of CPR
- Ongoing Care: Continue with 30 compressions and two breaths until EMS arrives or you're instructed otherwise.
- Reasoning: Initial breaths aim to restart breathing; CPR follows if there's no response.
👶 CPR Sequence for Children
- Ages 1 to 18: The sequence for drowning is consistent for children in this age range.

💡 Quick and informed action in drowning scenarios can save lives. Be prepared to respond effectively.

Why was the chest compressions done on the side of the chest instead of at the base of the breastbone where its supposed to be done?

I think the CPR provider in this video is doing the chest compressions wrong, his hands placement on the chest are incorrect, I see him doing chest compressions directly over the left anterior chest wall.

@@shaniquegayle6098 I think the correct hands placement is both of the interlocked hands to be placed between the nipples and on the sternum, not directly on the left anterior chest wall on the ribs cage.

Hi! I have a question. Why isn't CPR done on the sternum?
@maysarakilani972
@maysarakilani972 Год назад
It's because the most mass of the heart is in the middle of your chest (not to the left as many think)( it varies from a person to another for a bit , so it's safer to say : there is enough heart to compress there 😅). And when U do the CPR on the Sternum , U compress the heart between two "Boney" hard surfaces which are the Sternum and the spine , and so it will serve as a way to simulate the pumping function of the heart. Long story short: it's the most efficient place to do CPR compressions

Can there be water in their lungs?
@user-zh6ex6jn5t

After a surviving a drowning event a doctor should check for water in the lungs, or else one could dry drown, which is deadly.

I live in Maldives.. 1st thing is always try to get the water out of lungs by putting the victim on their stomach and squeezing thei abdomen and chest.. Standard cpr I lost a few patients.. This newer technique I saved alot... I used common sense... Water is in lungs no matter how many chest thumps you do its still there.. Water out by putting on their stomach and then commence the standard sop when lucg field is clear . Its a clinical thing..

That was my problem. Blowing air into a water filled lung seems counter productive
