What NOT To Do When You’ve Got Rosacea
When it comes to treating rosacea, the list of what not to do might be longer than any other skin condition. It’s finicky and likes things done just so.
As someone who has built up a library of “don’ts” for my own redness-prone skin, I thought I’d round out this Rosacea Awareness Month with these caveats as they’re just as important as knowing what to use.
As always, thank you so much for watching and for all your support!

1) Exposure to heat : 0:38 -Avoid unnecessary/ too much heat exposure 2) Physical exfoliation : 1:40 - Anything other than your finger tips could aggravate your skin even more 3) Not seeking professional help: 2:24 - Good to remember rosacea is not an aesthetic only condition, it’s a medical condition. - Reach out when you need help 4) Thinking facials will help: 3:17 - too much unpredictability - too many products - very aggravating 5) Borrowing products & taking recommendations: 4:05 - Less complicated-> better - Rosacea does not like unpredictability, better to have a ‘boring’ simple routine and be consistent with it Follow your own gut instincts for what is best for you, in your diet your products lifestyle etc Have a couple of products you know works for you stocked up and on standby in case of anything.

Yes, you should treat your skin gently if you have rosacea but there is so much more to rosacea than just treating it with antibiotics and creams. If you wanna keep managing your rosacea (for the rest of your life) then follow dermatologists advice. If you wanna try and heal your rosacea then understand that rosacea is coming from inflammation in the body. Your body is telling you that something is wrong on the inside. Find the root cause of your inflammation and try and heal that and your rosacea will get better. For many it is a gut imbalance like Sibo, H pylori, Ibs etc. Taking antibiotics and using creams will not heal you it will only prolong your suffering and mask your inflammation. For some it’s a histamine intolerance (which can come from gut problems), mold toxicity, trauma, hormonal imbalance and so on. Rosacea is NOT a skin problem. Its a bigger problem in the body. Antibiotics will definitely not make you better (more than temporary) in fact it will wreck havoc on your gut which will only make your skin worse in the long run. Find your root cause and heal your body to heal your skin. ❤

if the problem is in the gut, it's weird why redness show on our face and not on the other parts of the skin, for ecxample on arms or legs....?

I have been having rosacea to my right cheek for more than a year. Having done research widely, I applied safe anti-biotic gel a couple of weeks and Azelaic acid gel 20% (over the counter in Australia). It has been stabilised so much. Of course, I have to apply sunscreen everyday and wear a hat during sunny days. Good luck everyone

I have mild rosacea, but I love the sauna for the benefits it provides for the rest of my body. I use a fresh, damp cloth on my face, so it doesn't get as hot and my skin seems to tolerate it well. Of course that is a compromise that works for me personally and I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. But maybe an idea for anyone else for whom saunas are important. :)

I thought all rosacea looked the same, so I was really surprised to find I have type 1 and type 4 … who knew it could be ocular and sting so bad on the cheeks and eyes? I am now on a low dose of antibiotics as an anti-inflammatory, started azalaic acid and lowered my tretinoin dose. Switching my tried and true spf, choosing a gentler cleanser, ditching my glycolic, and looking for a tinted spf that does not look yellow or orange still eludes me (I may have to start the Missha BB again, but the lightest is too light and the next is too dark). I wish I had listed to Dr. Sam way back when or I might not have freaked out when diagnosed.

I would also love to know what medical treatments/procedures are out there to help with this condition. I have used Simple facewash for years (it does not irritate) and since I got Rosacea, I have tried other recommended things and all have made the redness worse even the new Simple cream cleanser, containing hyaluronic acid and panthenol, both supposedly good for dry sensitive skin ! I have recently had two V. ipl treatments, which have yet to show results and I am scared to spend more money in case it is a waste of time. The practitioner said I will need six treatments at £200 per go, I can't afford this. She has also recommended Circadia products, but there are no reviews on here and I am frightened to use it because of reaction and because I cannot afford £43 for a cleanser. so I am stuck with the redness and burning for evermore.

Most of this advice works for me, but I have to use a soft plastic mesh cloth for my skin - otherwise, I get really deep pimples that are painful, don't surface, and do make a mess of my face. I only do it about 1x per week, but if I don't, my face breaks out in other ways. Complex skin is complex.

My rosacea was caused by SIBO (small intestine bacteria overgrowth) and I cured it by taking a course of penicillin and I also quit eating coconut yogurt and quit taking a probiotic capsule everyday. Perhaps vary your exercise to avoid hot sweaty sessions in gym classes. Fast walking outside in a breeze. At home online yoga & Pilates sessions where you can be close to an open window wearing cool clothing. Maybe use a desk or hand held fan at rest intervals. Using resistance bands at home. Swimming. Cycling outdoors. But don’t give up entirely. I saw another dermatologist say that you might tolerate exercise a bit more after time (presumably if you’re managing other triggers)

@emms4867
@emms4867 2 года назад
I'm no doctor and I hope Dr bunting can provide you with more info on this, but as someone who's suffered with rosacea all their life and does a lot of research into it, I dont think mask wearing can cause it. Rosacea is a lifelong chronic skin disease that can flare up unpredictably or with known triggers. It is not caused by bacteria, like perhaps skin conditions like acne can be. In fact the cause is unknown but all of the causes that are known suggest you are likely genetically predispositioned to suffer with it and triggers for flare ups can include sunlight, alcohol, stress, skincare products. I would think you must either be suffering from a different skin condition if mask wearing & bacteria has caused it, or, you will have had and noticed having rosacea for some time and mask wearing has caused a flare up perhaps because of the constant exposure to heat?

As someone who has recently been diagnosed with rosacea (the red bumps/pustules kind), I’d be interested in learning more on how cosmetics may also be a trigger. I’ve personally taken notice that my skin can’t tolerate certain types of make up brushes, baked powders, or even the Kosas Revealer Foundation that so many know and love. I just don’t feel fully educated on the why! Im just having to learn the hard way to resist buying make up because I just don’t want to risk an unwanted flare up 😢

Try searching makeup products on incidecoder before using them! I have rosacea and verryyy sensitive skin and can ONLY use acne safe makeup products. I previously used Kosas Revealer Foundation and their concealer until I started noticing that my rosacea would always flare up after product use. Came to found out that these Kosas products are not entirely acne safe and have ingredients that clog pores + cause irritation. Incidecoder will explain/rate what ingredients in a product can cause skin irritation and comedogenicity (likelihood of an ingredient clogging pores). It's seriously been a LIFESAVER. I'd also recommend buying soft makeup brushes and regularly cleaning them at least once a week.
@serena5563

I think that it might not just be about the brushes you use, but how you clean them. I found that when I cleaned my brushes using shampoo or liquid soap, they really irritated my skin despite using my usual makeup. Then I started washing them with shower gel for sensitive skin, and it made a huge difference.

Reducing sport intensity, hot showers, spicy food alcool and use rosacare procure. Finally i told her to go to seek a dermatologist. Working side by side with a trained and well educated Esthetician can make all the difference in the world, actually. Many of us go out of our way to take continued education classes on these exact types of skin conditions. Rosacea is tricky, and it presents differently for each individual. As an Esthetician, I pride myself on being educated in helping my clients, as well as having invested in a professional skincare line that has products specifically for this condition. Don't be afraid of facials, but do your research and ask prior to making that appointment if the technician has a strong education and experience in the treatment of Rosacea. xo

I've had Rosacea ever since I had my COVID vaccines and two cases of COVID infection.

I wish I was only dealing with rosacea I have acne, seborrheic dermatitis and rosacea So keeping them at bay and making sure I have good skin (which I never have) is a full time job And let's not start with mental health I wake up and my face says you know last night you were not that happy so I am going be the reddest person on planet, and then my mental health is like oh your face looks red so I am going to be depressed now and you won't be even able wash your face tonight... Imagine waking up next morning and what my face will say...

Hi thanks again for great video about rosacea. So informative and helpful. I've noticed my rosacea got worse now the weather is warmer and I get "flustered " more. I would like to know how to calm "rosey" cheeks when rosacea suddenly kicks in. And I got a really red nose all the time , people must think I'm an alcoholic 😦

Desk or hand held fans, cool clothing (I now avoid scarves). Sucking ice cubes or having iced drinks (reduce hot drinks or try covered cups). Standing by open window in breeze. Avoid sun & seek out shade. Experiment to see if gentle yoga, meditation or breath work practice helps to control flushing & reduce stress - there is some evidence that it can help menopausal women with hot flushes.

Little things too like don't let the shower head hammer your face, esp your cheeks, cover your face when washing under the shower head.

Thank you! I think i may be in the early stages of rosacea- mild redness. Have already changed a few lifestyle factors (less hot showers, taken out spicy food and trying to be more mindful of other extremes in temperature). And already very careful with skin care as i have some hyperpigmentation. I hardly hear about La Roche Rosaliac AR serum online etc but saw it in the pharmacy and have done a bit of research. I would love to hear anyone eles thoughts or experience with it!? It contains ambophenol which apparently constrict blood vessels and strengthens their walls....

I love La Roche products for my skin. Diet is the healing process for me - I got rid of my diagnosed rosacea by removing sugar/gluten/dairy ... stress, covid, bad diet (sugar/gluten/dairy again after being "better" for a yearish) and antibiotics in close succession has brought it back on pretty terribly, but I'm improving on Dr Wahls diet - you tube for info ... lots of veg, bone both and organ meat or supplements to heal my leaky gut causing autoimmune response, also taking vit d, walking, trying to limit stress, results within a month if you follow her plan, I'm nearly better again - goodluck 🥰

Hi...I was wondering if using cotton rounds I use 100% cotton rounds with cerave hydrating cleasner only at night due to have rosacea/ seborrheic dermatitis and splashing my face qith tip water in the morning....is that ok to use to wash my face as using cotton rounds they are very soft absorbent....using my fingers alone don't throughly cleanse the products I have on through the day I have alot of residue left on my face looking for ur in put on this or if someone else that cleanses their face with high quality cotton rounds

Personally, I wouldn't use the cotton rounds on my face every day because you'd have to rub your skin. Have you tried using the 2-step cleanse instead? Google it, but be sure to apply the first cleanse (the cleansing oil) to a dry face. Rinse, then use the CeraVe to remove the remnants. A good cleansing oil will remove all makeup, dirt, sunscreen and evenmascara. I prefer Colorpop's cleansing oil, but DHC from the grocery store is good, too (but that one bothers my eyes).. good luck!

@@gategirl66 ok thank u so much....would the oil be safe for seborrheic dermatitis that I have going on as well? My seborrheic dermatitis only flares if it's during winter or cooler temperatures plus stress and my dermatologist told me to stay away from all sugar that causes my seborrheic dermatitis to flare not so much my rosacea

@@ladonnarichman1755 I don't know much of anything about seborrheic dermatitis, but Dr. Dray has a Q&A video on it. In it, she does talk about using an olive oil based cleanser in the 2-step cleansing method. You should check out her video!

I’ve tried to stop using cotton wool pads although I don’t think they were really irritating my rosacea. I do use them to remove eye makeup with micellar water. I use a one step cleanse for my face - I’ve just found Curel Intensive Cleansing Gel and a good blob of that massaged in and rinsed with water removes my chemical sunscreen & light makeup. I know Dr Sam recommends not using long wear foundations for rosacea skin because it is so difficult to remove. It’s a question of experimenting to find what works for you 🙏🏻

I use microfiber pads to remove makeup. There really soft. Boots sell them.

Wow... I see 0% evidence of any rosacea (I did makeup for years so usually can spot it) Whatever you're doing is working!!
