When I saw your patterns using only 1 1/4” binding I thought “no way!” After watching this tutorial, you have taken away any anxiety I had doing this method. Can’t wait to try it out! As a beginner quilter I am enjoying all of your wonderfully detailed and simply explained tutorials. Thank you!
This is such a wonderful tutorial! As I watched, I realized that I was smiling and nodding my head right along with you. ... Awesome student and great teacher!
I'm rewatching this video, I have a suggestion I think watching Hannah make her quilts. Is great. Watching each process is a big learning curve for me. But I would love to see Hannah make new quilt patterns. Step by step, great job Hannah on this quilt. Your sister's going to love it. ❤️
Beautiful quilt, Hannah! I love those silicone thimbles I bought from your site. No more yelling “OW!” while ironing not only bindings, but also hems and all other close work. 😂
Beautiful quilt Hannah! Great job breaking down all the steps in the videos. It was good to hear from your longarm quilter as well. Thanks also to Fran for the step by step instruction on the economy binding.
This series was so much fun and really informative. There is only one thing that I think Fran and Hannah forgot; after all that hard work, where is the label? :0
great job Hannah. I picked the same kit for a friend when you mentioned that your sister loves flowers. I love the back too. I can't get the hang of the 1 1/4” binding so I did the standard 2.5” using extra from the backing. Nice to know it's not just my cat that sits in my lap while binding. If I see her coming, I make sure I arrange enough so I can continue without having to disturb her. God forbid 😊 Great video series. Thanks to both of you.
This was a great series and so much fun to watch! Hannah and Fran make a great team! Congratulations Hannah on making your first quilt! I love your fabric choices! Great job team!
Great job ladies! Glad you did your binding because I do it totally different. I’m going to try this one in my next quilt. I watch a movie while binding.
I loved this series. You both are so sweet. Hannah is a great student and Fran you are such a sweet and excellent teacher. I FINALLY learned a basting technique to use that makes sense and looks great with no visible stitching. Thank you both!
Learning. Use the thread in the direction it comes off the spool (who knew?). Love the easy way to do corners. I have not yet finished a quilt, but you are so encouraging. Thanks for all the tips! Awesome! ❤️
Hannah I don't think I've could have done such a fine job while being filmed, and I've being quilting a few years. I lower my ironing board and place it behind machine to hold the weight of the quilt.
Awesome job Hannah!!! I love each of your fabric choices, and YES!!! that back is like a whole diiferent quilt, yet still goes so well with your pieced top. I'm certain your recipient will totally 💗💓💞💕💖 it!!! 🥰
Beautiful job Hannah!! Love your finished quilt!! Can't wait to see your next quilt. Thank you for sharing. I have quilted for forty years and enjoy each one that I have done. I have eight beautiful grandchildren and they all have quilts!! I also hand stitch my binding!! Love that look!! I enjoy the piece and quiet looking out my window and watching our horses as I stitch. Thank you for all the great tips. Happy Sewing♥️
Great series on sewing a quilt from start to finish. I like the fabric choice for this quilt. I've been quilting for 8 years, self taught. I learned some great tips on sewing the binding. I watch documentaries when I sew the binding. I have one person I make quilts for that likes to reverse the quilt. Thank you.
I love your quilt, Hannah! It’s beautiful! I have learned so much from Fabric Cafe. I’ve purchased several kits but I’m still working on my first practice one. I am doing all of it by machine because of hand numbness. I have to use some serious self talk on each step. Taking my time and enjoying it. Y’all are terrific teachers!
Hello! I'm popping in here to send you a cheery little note. I very much love the content on your channel and I hope you are going to have a joyful week ahead! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and talent.
I chose the same fabric for my granddaughter because she loves flowers and the color green. I think I will use the soho pattern because I already did a stepping stone quilt for my grandson. I have 7 grandchildren and I’m making a quilt for each other them. Thank you for the videos, they are very informative especially for A beginner quilter like me.
Great job ladies! I am a licker too that rolls her knots into place. One question on the type of stitching you use. Is that a running stitch that goes in and doubles back before moving forward again? I am new to hand sewing so am a novice still with types of stitches to use and when they apply. Fran, I think hiding the stitch when it nears its end by weaving underneath the binding is so cool. Thanks for the tip and your patience with teaching! Hannah, your sister will be in awe of your heartfelt efforts and talent. Keep it up!
I used an orange variegated thread on top and a dark green on the back.( I used a dark green for backing.). The long armer did a dragonfly pattern for the quilting.
Hey Augustslady! Sorry for the delay. Yes! You may use double thread to sew binding. It is not necessary, but you will have a very strong binding this way. Good luck! - Fran
I have made a dozen quilts or so. I have used the backing as binding. Accidentally cut binding for the latest,so giving it a whirl. I agree the clips worked better for me. And of course my cat has to help! Does anyone find that the hand stitching aggravates carpal tunnel?
Great video again! The only thing was you didn't show the final stitching of the joining of the ends. So not 100% sure how you do that. I am sure I could figure it out but it would be interesting to know what you do, please 😊😊
Hi Helena! I prefer joining ends by placing the fabric right side together and sewing a 1/4" seam along the two raw ends. It's a short seam and they go pretty fast. My preference is to press my seams open to distribute the weight. - Fran
Hi Jean! We find that a single thread is sufficient for securing the binding to the quilt. However, I think using double thread is a great idea! Super strong!
