@@johnwilkinsonjr4263 same i specifically decided to cut the forward-ish long ones and iiiiinstantly regretted it. one of those "do it once and never again" mistakes hahaha
Managing my sideburns (and optionally the short hair in the neck) also greatly motivate me to keep growing it out. A mayor concern to me was that long hair doesnt look "presentable" and looks kinda lazy, but a quick 10 minutes every 2 weeks or so makes a massive difference and motivates me to not cut it all short! Almost two years growing now!
I’m on the fence. I’m at 3.5 months (from 0 buzzcut) so my hair is still rather short. But idk what to do about the sideburns. I feel like if I take them off, it’s gonna look weird. I have them shaved to my mid ear now, and I can tuck most of the sideburn behind my ear. So do I just keep growing them until it gets longer? Idk what to do, help lol
@@Chris-us8yq not sure bout that tho 😅 i mean i went frm zero on the sideburns, and by 3 months plus they are longer and messier than the ones in the video
@@TheLonghairsLove this vid! Glad I found you. Wish you added help on the unruly hairs on the back of the neck. I have a frikkin mane down my neck. Even more tough to tame than sideburns and sidewisps.
Thank you, I am 61 and I am growing my hair out after decades of short crop hair. The only thing bothering me is my sideburns. I watched your video and cut them. I think it looks better thank you.
This is actually cutting off your side burns and chopping off some of your long hair. If you grew your side burns out and then lined them up you would see what I’m talking about.
Dude, it's easier if you keep SOME length in the sideburns. I use a 7mm guard and touch them up once every couple of weeks. It takes like 2 minutes. Then every once in a while I fade some of the medium hairs above my sideburns, which looks pretty cool. THAT idea might be worth another video.
I loved this video thanks. I do the same thing, only difference I like to cut the “wings” the same length as my beard, which my sideburns area is no more than a 1/4” long then tapers longer towards my chin. Cutting off the “wings” even FEELS better and cleaner. I didn’t even know about the wings at first, and just tried to tuck them away lol after cutting them I’m discovered how clean it looked, now I see this video and this proves it looks so much better cut!
After having long hair for almost 2 yrs now. I still have no idea how any of you with long hair wears hats cause they all just slide off my head cause all my hair
I usually just tie the hair back, and hold the side hair out of the way with one hand, while I buzz/trim the sideburns with my other hand. Pretty much get the same result. I'll have to keep the "no guard" step in mind next time tho.
I'm new to all of this. Starting to grow my hair out. Around 4:45 why not just let those "wings" grow out and become a part of the main long strands of hair? I don't understand that part. Could somebody please explain?
You could do that but it would take some time, also some of those strands just refuse to grow. Im actually watching this video because ive been mainting my sideburn for the past few months so I could specifically do that. Now I'm trying to figure out how to trim my sideburns properly so i dont make the mistake of cutting those hairs again (last time i cut too much of my sideburns which is what caused those small strands to grow). My biggest problem right now is that I wear glasses so idk if I can do what he does 😭
@@Nabee_H yeah I understand what you mean by trimming the sideburns too much. I already made that mistake once and it looked horrible. Grew them back out quickly!
In the process of growing my hair out…. Seven months and going strong in the awkward phase. I wish I would have watched this before I tried to do my normal sideburn beard blending technique. At about the three month mark I ended up hacking into my hair a bit and it looked pretty awful. I tried to wait it out to see if it would grow out a bit and look better but unfortunately there was just no saving it. I had to go to my barber and get it blended. With the combination of me hacking into my hair and the blending I lost a few precious months of hard earned growing. Super frustrating at the seven month mark, because my hair should be starting to go over my ears and it just doesn’t. I definitely set myself back a few months from being able to tie my hair back and getting out of the awkward stage. My advice to anybody growing from a buzz cut that also keeps a beard is just to let it grow until you’re hair is long enough to kind of lay over that drastic line where you’re beard/sideburns begin and hair starts. Or leave it to the professionals. They call it the awkward stage for a reason 😂
The trick for the awkward stage is you just have to let it grow until you can tuck a good chunk back behind the ears. then when there is clear definition you trim it.
First time growing my hair out, sideburns driving me nuts, this is the first video google search suggests. I dunno if I did a great job, but the situation is lots better that's for sure.
Aww man. I have had the wings for so long i even got a nickname from someone i knew. They called me wingnut. Hahhahahahah I really have to get rid of these.
Fun story. I’m growing my hair out and had massive awful wings like this because I’ve always had no idea where my head hair ended and beard hair began. So I mulled it over in my head and did exactly what you did here, and now I’m thanking god I did it right lol. Tucked the long hair back behind my ears and went up there exactly as you did with a 5mm guard. It came out looking so nice and now I won’t have goofy wings when I wear my hats with my hair tucked behind my ears. 👍🏻
Brooo you look like Party Boy from Jackass 😂. I believe that’s a compliment haha. Thanks for the content. I’m just starting to grow my hair out for the first time ever
I’ve been growing out my hair for a year now, and let me tell you, when going through the awkward stage, don’t cut it at all, not even neck hair and sideburns. Trust me, trimming it only took me longer to tie it in a bun. Personally I think the clean cut neck hair looks too pretty boy, so I like the natural look. I think it adds character but really it’s up to you.
Mine get curly and I been rocking them long for years and just tuck them behind my ears. Glasses help keep them pinned back, but I started wearing contacts more and having too many blowouts. Did this with scissors today and instantly looks better when pulled back
my sideburns are getting long enough that i can just tuck them behind my ears as you did but idk… i feel like cutting them but in all honesty they aren’t long
Thank you very much. I don't really know how to cut my long thick hair, I always get a buzzcut. Now I can test this method out on my own. I really want to grow out my hair...
Ah, so people do cut their medium long hairs by their ears so that they don't stick out. I was wondering why so many people with ponytails don't have hair sticking out by their ears. I've been trying for hours how to tuck those medium long hairs underneath my longer hairs once it is tied in a tail, but they end up sticking out no matter what I do. The only thing that seems to work for me is putting hairspray on my sides.
if i cut some of my long hairs on accident will they grow back to the same length as my other long hair or am i stuck having short hairs on the side of my head the rest of my life
I have to apologize; I sort of neener neener you guys when you did your video on neck hair and said that being Asian, I don't have neck hair. Now you're talking about sideburns, and mine is much longer than El Moreno. I also hate it when I eat dinner when a breeze blows behind my back and the pesky haIr lands in my mouth and eyes. Thanks for the video El M Man.
With a guard on it, you can go above the edge a bit, on top of your hair above the sideburns and it shouldn't cut it if it is pulled back tight enough.
I'm still in the early stages of growing out my hair and I have massive "wings" but the problem is I cannot grow sideburns. So it looks very BAD if i were to cut the wings. I'm kind of stuck wondering if I should even do this at all now because I look so poor with a patchy ugly beard and it looks weird if I were to pull my hair back behind my ears and there's no hair there.
Wish my barber new how to do my sideburns without snagging my hair. Every time I get a shape up I take my bun out and there's always a bunch of extra hair that comes out that shouldn't
I have super long hair I get it braided before I ride the Harley and it does help with tangled hair but it still gets tangled is there any spray or something you can recommend that can help with the knots and tangled hair shampoo and conditioner doesn’t seem to help either
First, great video! Second, are you invisible?! People are walking right behind you and not acknowledging your existence ,then getting their hair did!!
What if I left my side burns grow to where I can put them behind my ear? I'd like to have the least amount of maintenance as possible. I'm no where near where I want to be I'm about to enter the awkward stage
I use an afro comb to trim my sideburns, I don't trust the guard on the clippers, tie my long hair back and put the comb through the SBs and clipper them down with an unguarded clipper.
That doesn't work most of the time. If even the slightest wind blows, then that hair ends up coming undone behind your ear. My hair is now 5 or 6in past my shoulder, but those hairs behind my ear are still very short and aren't long enough to get tied in a tail and it just ends up sticking like wings regardless of how many times I try to tuck them in. Hairspray seems to work.
