I'm glad you clarified in this video that if the RIng doorbell is hooked to your old doorbell, you won't need to keep removing it to charge it. I watched your previous Ring video yesterday, and thought I heard you say something about charging the Ring. I've was looking for further clarification, when I found this video of yours. Thank you!

Great stuff! Nothing like this on the Ring Website. Previous HO botched the install I think. I have power from the transformer; nice tip on arcing the wires so to speak. It saved me the hassle of getting a doorbell to test. There is also speculation that the transformer might not be powerful enough to run it.

This video was helpful. I recently noticed my Ring battery going below 90% and not recharging for the last few of days. I didn't think anything of it because the bell was still ringing inside my home. So figured I just need to recheck the fuse and bell wiring. Then, when you mentioned something about hitting wires behind the wall, I remembered I recently installed a floating shelf and had issues with 1 of the screws not going through the wall so I used a shorter screw. Since that wall is a few feet away, I didn't think it was possible for that to be the cause. But, I just loosened those screws and the doorbell switched back to hardwired from battery mode. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Sometimes it's the simple things. I never would've tried that if I didn't watch your video. Thankfully, it wasn't damaged to the point of someone having to go behind the wall to fix it.

Good video, my hardwired version suddenly just died with no response. First and easiest thing to do is go and unscrew the doorbell and see if you got voltage across the terminals and/or do the jumper trick shown in the video. If no power then go back and look at the other items described (breaker panel, transformer etc.) For mine I showed good voltage and got the chime to work. Ended up power cycling mine which did the trick.

This was so helpful. I went through all the steps and it’s my Ring that isn’t working… doorbell wiring is fine. But it’s a first gen, so the last few minutes of your video don’t help with it :( but at least I’ve narrowed it down! It doesn’t have a separate plate like your version. I think I’m going to have to take apart my ring itself to find out what’s disconnected inside.

The video was helpful, so thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, I have a different problem from those you identified in the video. I'm installing a Ring Doorbell 3 in place of the doorbell/intercom at my front door and haven't gotten power to work. After trying a few of your suggestions to isolate the problem (none of which worked), I connected the Ring Doorbell 3 directly to the transformer (plug in wall kind that provides power to intercom/doorbell system) and THAT worked. I suspect that the 25 year old low voltage wiring in my house works for the old doorbell, but the power through it drops off enough that it won't power the Ring Doorbell. Or, perhaps I need to do something else since there's three intercom units on the same circuit? Any suggestions?

The Ring troubleshooting site said that wired in Ring doorbell batteries could still lose a charge if there is excessive motion at your door meaning it is turning on more often, OR if the temperatures are really low for awhile that could drain the battery. It is a pain to have to unhook the wiring in order to charge the battery.

I find this device to be poor in both engineering and execution. Ring know a doorbell will be outside and subject to low temperature, so there's that. Hate having to take the device off to manually charge. Power supplied is fine.

So, our ring doorbell is hardwired to the house and has been going strong since 2019 then all of a sudden it shut down. Can not get it to power up. So frustrating. I’m guessing we just need a new ring doorbell device. I cannot find the powersource in the breaker boxes in the garage (nothing labeled doorbell) tried nearby sources (lights) still nothing. Going to take a part and touch the wires together and see if they have power, or use one of my Dad’s tools that shows power by lighting up if has electricity in it. Giving it a go, y’all! Wish me luck! Hope I don’t wind up bumped into next week! 😂

A question that seems to be skirted. Can the Ring Doorbell work without a good battery? I have had my Ring Doorbell for several years now and just recently started having issues. Chimes ring fine but the Ring Doorbell and camera are not working and device shows offline in the ring app. Device Health shows battery at 3%. I believe the battery may be bad and no longer taking a charge. That is how the Ring Doorbell works right? The power keeps the battery charged but the Ring camera and WiFi connection actually work off the battery. So if the battery goes bad then the device won't work. Is that correct?

@jwm5455
@jwm5455 3 года назад
The problem is both wires going to your button are hot wires and usually there is no neutral wire to measure the voltage. The doorbell button acts just like a light switch. A hot wire coming in and and hot wire going out when the button is pressed. You can’t get the correct voltage across those two wires because in effect all they do make and break the circuit when the button is pressed it completes the circuit and the chime set will sound. When you let go of the button the circuit opens and the chime set will stop sounding.

Hey, Phil! No you don't have to. You will just have to remove it every once in a while to charge it if you don't hardwire it. Thanks for the comment!

My chime inside wasn't ringing and I called Ring because my electrician said that the Ring Doorbell that I bought was defective. The Ring technician (via phone) said that I had to manually go to the app and chose the option for my existing doorbell chime to ring when Ring doorbell is pushed. However, the electrician tried s Ring Doorbell Pro that he had and it worked perfectly fine. I adjusted the settings in the app, but haven't been able to test it out because the electrician left. Anyone else fix the problem this way?

My doorbell was at 58 percent today and it's hardwired and tonight it's 50 percent how did it lose battery what's did I do wrong

Low voltage wiring can’t charge as fast as the door bell uses the power. It still works off the battery and when not in use it slow charges. You can try reducing the sensitivity if the camera is in a busy area. Or create zones that trigger the recording.

What screw driver? Ring says T15 but it is not working.
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 3 года назад
Hey, Syd! I think it is probably not working because it is a "safety screw". The screw has a post in the middle of the star that prevents a regular T15 to work. I am guessing for theft prevention. Hope this helps. Thanks for checking out the video!

Have a couple of questions 1, I have a wired door bell, do I need to install a ac or dc transformer 2, do I need a 50w 25ohm resistor? 3, if I take my existing doorbell off and connect the 2 wired to the ring door bell will it charge?

Hey, Ryan. I hope someone watching the videos and looking at the comments can answer your question better than me... I am not an electrician so I can't give you electrical advise. I can say that the easiest way to install a doorbell is to buy a complete kit, then there is no question with the transformer and if you connect the 2 wires to the doorbell, yes, it will charge. Thanks for watching. Wish I could help you more.
