How to Troubleshoot the Door Lock on your Stove / Range 

Oh Man! Thank you Bill! My door lock was stuck in the lock position so I couldn't close the oven door. I called Thermadore and they never once told me about the light switch needing to be pushed in in order for the lock to open. I am so glad I checked out your video.

Thanks Bill. My issue was that my wife set the range into cleaning mode then opened the door, which resulted in the the latch moving into the closed position while the door was open. Nothing I did would get the latch to move back to the opened position. Seeing your video I thought to manually depress the door closed switch so the light went out, then held the Cancel/stop button, which did the trick! You saved me having to go a lot deeper. Thanks for giving me my afternoon back!

Hi Bill, your tutorial helped me so much! I woke up to put something in the oven and the oven door was locked. I had not used the self-cleaning feature on it, either. After watching your video, I turned on the self-cleaning button and then cancelled it shortly after. That unlocked the door. So, thank you so much for posting this and helping me trouble-shoot. It was a godsend.

Thank you for this video! I was on the verge of calling a repair man for a $99 service charge plus parts. Your class on RU-vid University saved me. I cleaned the oven and the Locked icon would not go off. The lock was stuck and would not return to the correct position. It turns out that the light wasn't going off when the door was closed because the light button hadn't been pushed all the way in. I pushed it with my finger, and BAM! the lock returned to the correct position and the icon went off! Hallelujah! Again, thank you! (73 year old woman)

Hello Bill, I have a 25 years old oven and it was working great. The other day I ran the self-cleaning and the self-cleaning cycle was interrupted. After that, I could not unlock the latch to open the door. No error code is available on this oven but something is holding the manual latch and won’t release it. The manual handle is on the outside of the oven door, but I was told not to force the latch open as I could cause more problems. The oven is a GE JB550GJ and the latch is a manual lock. You slide the latch handle from the left to the right to lock the oven door for self-clean. (I searched the Internet and most solutions for unlocking the latch are for automatic locking mechanism, not for manual latches.) I powered the oven down for minutes then powered it on. I gently sliding the latch to the left but it won’t release. I tried to run another self-cleaning cycle, but it won’t start the self-cleaning now. Do you know how to release the manual door latch? My specific questions are: (1) What is holding the manual latch and not letting go? Is there a way to unlock the latch? What are the specific steps required to reset this specific oven and to allow unlocking a manual latch? (2) I have the user manual but it only talks about how to use the oven. I need a service manual to help me understand how the latch got stuck. I searched the Internet but I could not find a service manual for this old model. Do you know where I can download a copy? (3) If I pull the oven out and access the back of the oven, is there an easy way to unlock the oven from the back? Do you think my old GE has a locking pawl inside the back panel which I can toggle to unlock the latch? (4) I searched the Internet and found no parts relating to the locking mechanism. Do I need new parts to repair this problem after I get the door to open so it won’t happen again? Thank you for your help. Phil

Thank you man!! Just had to hold down the little black switch/rod on the right side of the oven door, and pressed clean. Fixed! RU-vid > repair manual

Mine is giving F5 E0 on a KitchenAid Superba and not recognizing when door closed. The light does not go off when I trigger the door switch but I tested the switch and it is working. The door latch switch also works when tested. There is 120v being sent to the motor all the time though. But the latch is in the open position. Does this sounds like latch assy or control board issue? Thank you

Thanks that was a big help. Turned out my door locking motor was temporarily seized. All I needed to do was turn it while power was applied and it started working again.

I built, I have a 10 more glass top stove When I press self clean I get a DR on my control panel and beeping Sound. I have checked the continuity on the door motor For the switch and the motor and I tested the light switch.and I tested the light switch It works no problem When I test the voltage on the motor I'm only getting a lower reading than what you are showing I'm getting around 40 V

CITYOF JESSE 2 years ago Don’t sit here and take your over apart: see if this works! 1. The door was locked shooting off that error F90 & some dr_00 2. I let it cool down didn’t fuss with it. 3. I hit the “Timer on/off” button and held it for a couple seconds (just for the hell of it.) and then I hit the OFF/hold button.

Bill, the oven door became locked when I shut off the power from a circuit breaker. But when I turned the power back on it unlocked the door. But now it won’t even lock but the light comes on when I open it. With the new panel I don’t see any lights go on but an intermittent beeping. Any suggestions?

I have a Frigidaire oven. When the oven door is closed, the lock repeatedly keeps locking and unlocking. I've pushed all the buttons and nothing helps. Even when I turned the circuit breaker off and on, the lock starts back up automatically. The locking mechanism only stops moving when I open the oven door. Any advice?

How about a door lock that has a bent handle? My stove has the manual door lock handle that you move to the right to lock. The handle was accidentally bent so can’t move it either way and oven door stays closed. Can I just remove the rod?

I watched a few videos and I’m trying to figure out, I have an F9 code because I was a dork. I didn’t see the button to shut the light out and pushed in the oven door lock. Now it’s set in the lock position and I cannot close the oven. Any suggestions so that I don’t have to call the technician and pay loads of money that I don’t have pleazzz

I started self cleaning cycle on electric stove..then cancelled early now locking mechanism won't quit running..door open is only option to quiet motor from running continuously..any ideas?

Is there a way to disable this motor so I can remove the locked door error on my panel to give me access to my oven again? I just cant get around it, and cannot manually put this motor in the non self clean mode no matter what i tried after watching hundreds of how to videos .Thanks!

Bill are you still repairing these days? I need some assistance with a drop in slide in Frigidaire electric range oven that won't unlock after self cleaning. I replaced tempertature sensor, and had the control board rebuilt...they say... But the darn oven is still giving an f30 error which says sensor is bad. And the darn oven lock assembly motor won't come out of the lock position. Help!

You'll probably want to test that micro switch a bit more then that. I'd say maybe 10 times. I've seen them test good 3 or 4 times then stick indicating it's bad.

Bosh built-in oven model HBL5451UC problem. I think the boiling water from cooktop spilled into the Bosch built in oven. Looks like that there is corrosion or water deposits on the CONTROL MODULE PROGRAMMED - # 12006841. I am not sure that Part# 12006841 is a correct part number. The door is looked, there is no power. How to unlock the door and fixed this oven? Thanks, Mike.

mine locks when I hit clean, but won't unlock when the cleaning cycle is done or canceled. Even when I cancel it immediately, before it has gotten hot.

Mine is showing error E0F1. I suspect the door. I don’t think it locks

If you hold down the light button the door pushes when closed and hit start It will clear the door lock error code. At least it worked on mine.

I have ge older gas stoves and I hit the self clean button and canceled it but it still says the door is locked and it's really not I can't use my oven now when I hit the bake button it says door locked but Like I said it's not even locked ? Help

You're saying that the motor is good, but you should have shown the motor operating when you checked the motor for voltage. Just because the motor is getting voltage doesn't mean it's good.
