So tuning your horn, and then playing in tune, can be two different things. In this video, I'll explain why, and how to fix your tuning, along with my tenor's high F key.

Another great saxophone channel on RU-vid. I must say as much as this COVID lockdown sucked for the professional musicians, it opened the door for all rookies like me to access wisdom, knowledge and expertise of great musicians via RU-vid. Congratulations Dave on your channel. I’m sure your channel will grow rapidly.

I would be curious if there are any simple adjustments for common intonation issues that would prolong a decent setup. aka key heights, etc and if so how to approach it.

Yes....key heights can factor in to the equation....and, best to approach that subject with a skilled sax tech.

Yes. Set it up to factory specs if you can find them.

I disagree strongly. It took me about 40 years to figure this out. ☺️ I always put the mouthpiece in the same place and leave it there. It's the place where low F is in tune with middle F with no change in emboucher. Middle B should be in tune with long D. If the horn is generally sharp or flat because of atmospheric conditions, you can't fix it by messing with the mouthpiece. Open-hole notes like middle B will be affected more than closed-hole notes like long D. The horn will not play in tune with itself. You'll have to adjust with emboucher. I have a Yamaha tenor that is set up to factory specs. The intonation is spot on.

I'm glad that works on your Yamaha.

You say you put the mouthpiece always in the same place but then you say to mess with it to fix atmospheric conditions. Can you explain what you meant please?

@davegoodsax 'works on any horn that's set up right.
