I would be curious if there are any simple adjustments for common intonation issues that would prolong a decent setup. aka key heights, etc and if so how to approach it.

I disagree strongly. It took me about 40 years to figure this out. ☺️ I always put the mouthpiece in the same place and leave it there. It's the place where low F is in tune with middle F with no change in emboucher. Middle B should be in tune with long D. If the horn is generally sharp or flat because of atmospheric conditions, you can't fix it by messing with the mouthpiece. Open-hole notes like middle B will be affected more than closed-hole notes like long D. The horn will not play in tune with itself. You'll have to adjust with emboucher. I have a Yamaha tenor that is set up to factory specs. The intonation is spot on.
