I found a Dell Optiplex 960 Q9400 just waiting to have a new life as a retro win XP gaming machine. In this video, I rebuild the machine by adding a power supply and eventually pick a video card that manages to fit and still do what I want in terms of games.

Q9400 CPU
4 GB RAM
ATI 5450 GPU. *. Changed to an ATI All In Wonder X800 XL
Creative Live 24-bit Sound Card
Windows XP SP3

Great Video. Love to see the older Parts put to good use rather than being in the landfill

Absolutely, I have saved a few PCs and it’s components from a landfill or stripped for minerals. While recycling is great, I think you are also helping the environment by keeping perfectly great parts still in use. I can turn one of these into a great system for someone to do homework on or find another new life for it rather then being scrapped.

Did you install all the drivers? Like chipset driver?

Hi, Not just yet. I changed the video card to an ATI X800 XL that I picked up recently and used its drivers, I also added a Creative Live 24 Bit Sound Card. Where do you get the chipset drivers? From Dell?

Retrosonic from dell. Look up the model and DL everything. Or you can just use snappy driver origin program if you are hooked up to the internet. The program DLs all the necessary drivers. If you go down that route, do the graphics card separately.
