I bought 2 optiplex's, 780 and 3020?, can't remember off the top of my head. My daughter wants to start PC gaming and eventually stream, as every kid does, so I got them to tear them apart, learn, upgrade etc so I can help her build her first PC in a couple years. Great video! I did a build with an Optiplex 9020 with the i5-4590 just a few weeks ago. I used a GTX 1650 OC because it was around the same price as the 1050, performs better and does not require an external power connector. For anyone thinking of doing this I would strongly recommend buying one with an SSD installed (Newegg has them). It might cost you slightly more but you'll get a very fast boot drive out of the box which will make your life a lot easier.

@@RAVisuals My Optiplex 9020 with the new 128 gig SSD cost $260 CDN which is about $200 US. Keep in mind things are more expensive in Canada because of shipping costs and customs duties. Still, I had a lot of fun with the build and with the GTX 1650 OC and some extra ram the whole thing came in just under $500 CDN. Which is pretty good considering how happy I am with the performance. Too bad the price of the Optipexes is going up since I finished my build.

Some of these OptiPlex's have a bridged pin on the mobo to prevent access to the bios. Removing this bridge or bridging other pins usually fixes this!

Acer Veriton's with the i7 4790(non K)/i5 4670(non K) are also great value. They mostly come with also 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 and can be found for roughly around $70-150 USD. I usually grab a cheap mATX case with a 450W psu bronze(24pin to 12pin adapter) and a RX570/580 8GB and its a 1080p budget monster.

I think people don't realize that youtube ain't instant, and you can grind for two years and not have a huge base but if you keep doing it and you're good at it can explode eventually. Jay Williams was like that, until now he makes real money from YT (I still don't know how I feel about this, YT was nicer when it was free, a hobby by enthusiasts, not owned by Google that's literally the antichrist and literally evil don't let Google have ANY private information and install scriptblockers in your Firefox to keep their insidious shit like Google-analytics from loading in the background) and has a huge base. Be doing it for your own enjoyment, not a quick buck! That's ironically why Blair Witch got so popular and made so much money, and exactly why Blair Witch 2 fucking sucked and nobody watched it once Hollywood parasites ruined it.

I run at high settings triple A games like Risa of the Tomb Raider and MGS V with no issues. I Have a Dell 9020, 1050 TI FTW, 16GB Corsair RAM, I5 4670 and did change the power supply and used an adaptor, works great.

You can pick up a Sandy/Ivy bridge Xeon such as an E3 1230 or 1240. They’re basically i7s minus the integrated graphics and sell for quite a bit cheaper than their i7 counterparts on the used market. They’ll work in those Optiplexes with the latest BIOS update

@@RAVisuals You should notice an overall smoothness in multitasking and games that can utilize Hyperthreading. Also, speaking from experience with the Optiplexes, you may have to verify Hyperthreading is enabled in the BIOS options.

Sometimes the BIOS is locked out, or admin password set. On the motherboard somewhere there will be a link labelled Password. Remove it, power up, power down, replace link.

4th gen optiplex 7020 or 3020 mt are easy to make into 1080p gamers. New power supple about 500w to 750w 16gb ram and rx580 graphics card. You need a 24pin to 8pin adapter cable. Good luck.

This is similar to what I did for my gaming pc. Took a viglen motherboard which is an oem for education in the UK. It came with i5 4460 8gb ram and a 1tb hdd. Added a 240gb ssd and an rx 570 and it can get 60fps on games like red dead 2 and it's awesome.

Optiplex series is highly customizable to your needs and people buy old optiplexs because 1 they’re pretty cheap 2 you can put a good cpu, ram, storage and gpu and get 60+ fps

I've had a i5 2400 optiplex for about three years now, just add a GPU and a PS, if you need PCIE power, it'll run for years. I don't play AAA games, but what i do play, it does perfectly fine on. Current build is i5 2400, 8 gb (4x2gb) 1333 Ram EVGA 450BT PS and a EVGA GTX 1060 3gb OC. It runs fine, but i want a newer platform, so building a ryzen 1600 AF system to replace it

As i said i'm using the AF 1600, with at least 16 GB (2x8 gb sticks) of timetec RAM (2666), Might double it up, just need the case and motherboard right now. Thanks to my Stimulus check coming in today, i got what i need to finish it. going with the B450m pro4 from asrock and thinking a Fractal design focus G ATX in black. I'm plan is to use the power supply (EVGA 450BT) and current GPU (EVGA 1060 3gb OC) until i get a killer deal on newer stuff, thinking maybe weither a 1070 (If a good Ebay deal pops up) or a new 1660 once prices settle a little, thinking next PS moght bea 500 watt for GPU upgrade. I have been planning this build for better then a year i know the Ram is a little low, but honestly it's literally double what i currently have (8gb 1333), so is it a downgrade? also looking at features, i don't see any MB's that really top the pro4 for value. Yes some good bells and whistles, but the pro4 has a decent VRM with a great price

Thats when the Pc cant find a windows installation to load. So youll need to plug in your hard drive with windows or plug in a usb with windows on it so you can install it!

Great video... I hold out for the cheapest i7 with 16gb of ram and put in a gtx 1650 oc ddr6 model and pretty much hit minimum 60 fps on slightly higher settings except for a few games. My latest bargain was a hp ryzen 7 1700 16gb ram prebuilt with a 310 watt proprietary psu and no 6 or 8 pins ( not that there would be enough power) it was a black Friday special and a lot got purchased just for the rx 550 gpu for bitcoin mining. I got mine brand new in the box with mouse and keyboard for 200$ I got a 20$ 120gb m.2 ssd and gtx 1650 for 149$ and built a great gaming pc for 370$... honestly if you started out on the commodore 64 you really dont feel like you need 4k gaming at 144 fps. 720p at 30 to 60 is just fine with me. I play older games and never buy a game, phone or computer unless its been out 2 years first.

Jo. oseph some of them come with a graphics card and some do not. To actually game with any sort of “playable” frame rates, you can get away with only upgrading the gpu. I suggest something like an rx-560 or gtx 1050/TI, or 1650 as they require no external power source.

Great vid on these systems. You can get a 24pin to 8 pin dell adaptor if you wanted to swap out the power supply on the 4th gen desktop. Do both of these units have standard fan connectors if I wanted to swap out the fans? EDIT: Dell's have a proprietary 5pin PWM fan connectors. You can get the 4pin adaptors on ebay. @@alextracythaxton5796 Have a look at Xeons for that socket and compare on cpu comparison sites for how much difference there is. But that is the best performing cpu for the socket. It wont overclock on the dell motherboard i dont think..

the thing for me is i found a pc with Dell Optiplex 7020 case but it has i7-4770 and rtx 1660 which is good for me and i game all day so can the case cool the pc properly?

I really like your creativity, you have turned a nine years old Dell desktop into a gaming pc which is able to play Shadow of T. R., and RDR2. The interesting thing is: the dell desktop (that had the i5 2500) reminds me of my i5 2500K gaming PC which I built in 2012. I have built lots of gaming PC ( and sold those gaming PC built by me) since 2007, however I decided to keep my i5 2500K paired with a GTX 780 Lightning (from msi) gaming PC ( I bought the GTX 780 Lightning in 2013 to replace my GTX680) because in 2013 ,my 2500K & GTX 780 Lightning combination was ABLE to play CRYSiS @ very HIGH setting with 8 x AA enabled. Fast forward to 2020, my i5 2500K gaming PC is still on my desk, next to my new Ryzen 3700X paired with an Asus RTX 2080 gaming PC ( build in 2020) Back to your interesting RU-vid video, I have a question for you, R. A., did you replace the CMOS battery of those two Dell pc that you rebuilt ( in this video)? Keep up the good work, R.A. and have a great day

which OptiPlex are you using for this video? and what OS did you install on the machine? I took a Dell Optiplex 960 core 2 Vpro (2006) and turned that into a decent gaming machine. More on the retro side, but basically anything from 1990s-2008 era.

@RA Visuals I literally got this as my second rig. My optiplex 790 came with a i5 2400 and 2gb of ram with no card. Obviously im going to upgrade the ram, but if im looking to add a pcie powered card, do you think a rx 550 would have a problem getting a boot signal? I read on a few reddit threads that a rx 550 and 560 has problems with the optiplex. Any help would be greatly appreciated man.

Rome The Revenant i threw in an rx 560 into a dell bistro and it booted up right away, so i see no reason why it wouldn’t work with the optiplex too!

the i5 is a great place to start! unless youre trying to push something like an RX580 or a GTX 1070, you'll be fine!

So I'm doing a build like this right now. I needs to be said if you plan on upgrading the Power Suppy in a Optiplex 7020 only certian ones will do, I had to do a EVGA 700 BR, 80+ Bronze to be able to do it, it has to do with the power on the rails? Also I'm doing Linux Daurgr OS, its setup for gaming and thus far I haven't hit a game that doesn't run flawlessly with Valve Proton or other emulation. I find Linux is better for low power builds like this since Windows 10 just loves to expand and consume resources, where as this Linux OS is so clean.
