the newer tp link routers seems to all come with this handy buit-in option for changing the operation mode of the router to routing to access point and even to other options. It is pretty convenient for ease to set up and deals with all the needed configuration...you just flip it, connect an ethernet cable to its wan port and set up its wireless settings. But nowadays it is also very easy to manually set every other router into an access point, wired or not. The basic of it is to just disable the dhcp server of the access point router and assign to it an ip within the same subnet of the main router. Then you just plug an ethernet cable from the lan port of the main to the other lan port of the access point .
Thank you so much!🙏 The video is totally excellent with a great explanation. The good animation in this video makes understanding the concept very easy for me. This video saved my time. Thank you for your support!😀
BIG THANKS for this video! I was able to make my AP work with my WIFI Vendo machine.. At first a tutorial said to have me connect my USB to LAN to the AP-capable router's LAN port not the WAN port. I did that but didn't work! I came across this video and found out that it's supposed to be connected to the WAN port of the AP. So now it's all up and running.. My vendo's coverage is just expanded. Thanks!!! :D
Hello, thanks for the video, couple of questions, 1- once 1st setup is completed the LAN cable can be unplugged from access point to it work as wireless access point or it always have to be plug with Internet cable to it can work as access point...... 2- Access point is function is different to Repeater? Thanks in advance for your support, best regards
First wasn’t able to create a functioning AP. But with help of the video I figured I needed to configure the AP stand alone first. Now it seems to work. Thanks. But yeah, could do with an update of the same video without the music. Would be so much better.
This is what I want to know.... I have two TPLink Routers. I want one to be configured as a Wireless Access Point so I can connect and access a Wired Device, in another room... to my main routers Wireless LAN. This video doen't really help with that...
Thank you so much for the video with 2-part explanation, LAN-to- WAN and LAN-to-LAN. With the 2 parts, devices that are connected to the router can access to the internet both WiFi and Ethernet cable? Thank you.
Honestly, I love your explanation on how to setup the 2 devices. The setup that I am struggling on is connecting my TP Link TD-W8950ND to my android hotspot. I know its an old device but I really need directions on how to setup please. Can you help me please. Love your work bro
Great video and thanks!! One questions I had that i couldnt find the answer for in the comments is can the wifi from the 'new router' be named the same as wifi from the 'old router'? I did get a little help from someone's comment saying 'I can go upstairs without having to change wifi" so i just changed it and the answer is Yes!
Wait, but will they broadcast separate SSIDs? That's no good. I'd rather want to extend the coverage of an existing SSID. Is it possible with this method, to have one SSID with multiple access points, or do I need to look for a different solution?
@@orange11squares but will a WiFi client device attempt to stay connected to the main router even after moving into proximity of the AP where the signal is so much better? At least when two separate SSIDs are employed, we can see to which WiFi radio the client device is connected and force a change when the main router WiFi has become sketchy.
Great explanation but I was looking for a wireless connection from modem/router to the new router in order to establish extended WiFi network to other side of house for a stronger signal. Do you have any other means of doing this? Thx..
AC1750 Router as an Access Point via TP-Link AX3000, i think it is working....green lights across both of them. it is to alleviate the stress since i have a lot hooked up, i think.
Can I have both the router and newly converted Access Point both use the same Network? I am trying to avoid having two diferent wi-fi networks in my house (like I sadly had to do with a D-Link tiny wall plu-in device). want to be able to have my tablets/phones conected to same wi-fi network that my google home minis are on, all whilst I move around my property with phone or tablets all while those are searching for the strongesty signal..
Thank you for this great video TP Link! Finally I succeeded in creating a large and strong WIFI network using 2 TP Link routers as an access point beside my internet modem.
With most routers, you have a simple settings option with 3 choices : Router or Access Point, or Bridge. Chose one and let it reboot. Then plus the cable from the main router into the internet port. Done.
@@xadam2dudex sir is it okay to plug the ethernet to wan not on lan i checked dhcp when plugging into wan it is still off its just that my archer c60 set as ap wan led turns orange cause i plug it in the lan, though both function well as ap, im worried if i use wan for a while it mighy turn its dhcp on and im just annoyed in that orange wan led if didnt plug it there(wan port).
@@naxcandela1454 can both of your routers act as an Access points ? You need to make one an Access point and the other as the master internet access device .. Did you connect them together using method 1 or 2 ?
@@xadam2dudex my modem connected to this router os mikrotik(it is configured as bandwidth management/games priority/hotspot) connected to switch then connect to this router archer c80 as access point, most of the vids shows to plug the ethernet port to lan instead of wan, i also read in some discussion that when router turned into ap the wan port becomes lan port function. btw after i set the router as ap i didnt set the APs ip to static cause i can just access the tplinkwifi.net to this router and can look if the dhcp turn enable when connected to its port wan but yeah its still disabled. thnx for replying and happy new year hope year 2021 become a good year .
question, after setting up the IP addresses, can i remove the ethenet cable? or is that permanently required? if so then is there a way to become wireless AP?
Thanks, didn't know I had to use LAN ports instead of WAN port on an Access Point setup. That was what was making it not work. It worked in one area, but when we moved it, it would only work in the LAN port.
Thank you for this info! I have a Question: I have a Netgear Nighthawk router that I want to connect to Fios Router as a Access Point, and in the Nighthawk router settings it has AP mode (Access Point mode) , Do I just turn it on enable it and that's it?? or do I need to do something else in the settings? Thank you.
@@derrickferrao you need to use the "Enable WDS Bridging" option for old router(AP) under Wireless settings, if your are using TP link router. For others look for WDS bridge option and pair the two routers. No need to have wires, but the speed difference between wired and wireless connection of two routers is noticable. You’ll get very good speed when using the wired connection, there is significant decrease in speed if there’s a wall in between two routers.
Hi. Up until now I used 4g internet in the house with tplink archer mr200 modem/router. Now I am getting fibre. The ISP will provide the modem/router but I want to extend the wifi to entire house. Question: what kind of router do I need to act as an access point while maintaining capability of full 1 Gbit speed? Does the router (acting as access point) need to have 1Gbit capability or it can be a random old router? Thanks
I've followed the procedure in the video but have a problem. The access point is working fine except that I cannot log into it. When I go the the new static IP address I configured on the AP the browser times out when trying to connect to the AP's login page. I'd welcome any suggestions as to what I need to do.
Do u have to sign in all your devices phone any wireless cams etc into the 2nd modem with the now diff name (or does it depend on keeping the same ssid or not) , even though password same , ive tried this and i get the impression you do , can u tell or clear that situation up please !!
Can be TL-WR940N V3 configured as an wired access point? If yes then please mark a video. Also will configuring a router as an access point also work as a wired switch?
Damn, I though my router has the AP function and I set it up as such. Apparently it does not! And I had to go with the 2nd set-up. And connecting them on LAN-ports with each other. Should have watched this video first, would have saved me 3 hours of "bug hunting".... Thank you for the video! :)
Hey i have a main router and now I connected an Access point. Will this result in additional data charges on my telephone bill? Will this use more data?
if your second router supports ap mode, then you connect the main router(lan port) to second router(wan port), will the four lan ports on the second router still work? can you still have wired connections on your ap router?
@@tpsupport I have your products... basically a modem router...and additional router which is called C9.... In my primary router (old logo) When going to WAN management...I check my Vlan status and 802.11p as N/a....It does mean My ISP didn't set any VLAN thing and I can Use Directly as Bridge?
@@tpsupport Thanks for the great video. One critical feedback would be that Part 1 and Part 2 sound like the same (due to my lack of knowledge) problem. May be that you could have elaborated on the subtle differences for a layman. I have a couple of questions on my setup. I am trying to add a TPLink Archer router to my Frontier Internet setup. I have three network devices (R1, S1, and R2) at my home described as follows. Frontier has already provider me a router (let's call it R1). R1 is connected to the Internet over a coaxial cable. R1's IP address is 192.168.1.1 and is configured to vend DCHP addresses in the range 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.254. R1 is also a Wi-Fi access point. R1 is upstairs. To R1 I have a connected a TpLink 8 port network switch TL-SG108. (let's call it S1). S1 is downstairs. To S1, I have connected a TP-Link AC1750 router (let's call it R2) to extend my Wi-Fi range. I have configured R2 as follows: a) Configured R2 to in AP mode b) Assigned a static IP address 192.168.0.254. c) Cable from S1 is plugged into a LAN port on R2. To R2's Wi-Fi SSID, I have a connected a door bell device, and that is working fine. Also, I am able to connect my iPhone to R2's Wi-Fi SSID. When I login in R1, I see all the devices, whether connected to R1's SSID or R1 Lan Port or R2's SSID, show the IP address in the range 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.254. First Question: Do you think that I have configured my Archer router correctly? Second question: I am not able to login to R2 from my laptop browser that is connected to R2's Wi-Fi SSID. I don't understand why. Third Question: When I login to R1 and see the list of devices, I see the R2 router, however it is showing up as "inactive".
@@gl4511 hi G L, I think the answer to all three questions is the same as it's probably caused by R1 being on the subnet of 192.168.1 and R2 is on the subnet 192.168.0 which makes them not communicate with each other. As you noticed it does pas through internet but when you get an IP address from R1 you're in a different subnet than R2 and therefore not able to acces the web interface. The solution is setting the R2's IP address to something like 192.168.1.254. hope this helped
Hi Tplink, after create an access point follow the second part of this video, i found my main router speed is real bad. When i use wifi scanner, there is a "no name" wifi network act like a shadow of my main wifi network ( same strength, same channel) i think that is the problem. but i don't know what is that no name wifi network. could you answer my question please.
if you use as access point is better to put the wifi down on the router that it is connected to the external network. In this way the two wifi don't interfere each other.
Is there a video on how to make the TPLINK (Archer C5) a client. The Client receives WiFi from the main router and I would like to connect to it via the ethernet cable.
How do we connect both routers over wireless? The video only explains connecting both routers over a LAN cable. Looks like TP-Link routers don't support true wireless AP.
Router that is used as AP is much better and faster option than repeater as communiaction between router and AP is via ethernet cable and not over WiFi.
I still see the SSID from the new router and don’t see the SSID from the original router. And I can connect to it. Do I change that SSID name to match the original one?
hmm, does this mean that I have to put the main router and the access point next to each other? what can i do if i want to put the main router in the living room and the access point in my room where the signal is very weak?
@@user-jt1bx3fx8h I manage to set up my router as repeater, but I did not follow this method. Try google "How to Configure WDS Bridging on TP-Link Dual Band Routers" (if your router is dual band). The key point is you have to enable WDS.
The popping sub woofer bass sound you are hearing isn’t the music. He doesn’t have a pop filter in front of his mic so the breathing sound of the letter “P” blows into the mic and adds a wind noise to the voice recording. But yes the music is boring and needs a more subtle softer song that doesn’t drown out the important info he is explaining.
Hi . I would like to ask about the part 2 where the part we have already setup the old router become access point and setup switch off dhcp on the ip.(minute 9.38) The question is after switch off dhcp, how to access the old router? And how to find the ip address on old router? Note: my network topology is modem => bridge(mikrotik) => old router(access point) . this above setup is other people that help me to setup it. So i could find the ip address. Please help me to solve this problem. Thanks in advance
Hi, im doing the first option, and i had a tp link with the AP mode. but i noticed when i use a LAN port instead the WAN port my wired speed is way faster When i use the WAN port i get about 400mbps then i switch to a lan port and go 1GBPS. why's that?
