God bless you sir, I've been welding for 20 years and alot of experienced welders take joy in watching beginners struggle. it's takes men to show boys what manhood is. Hank Jr I agree ! When I started welding a Missouri Drydocks back in the middle 70’s there where some guys that would show you a few tricks but most of the would not show me little tricks of the trade to help me get to journeyman and it took me years to get there so when I got there I began teaching the new guys as soon as they hired on and most all them became journeyman in about a year or more

Hello Bob ! I'm a 70 year old disabled Vietnam vet, and have been learning welding, so I don't have to send out my work as my son and I build cars. I truly appreciate your excellent instructional videos, and my welding has improved a lot faster than I expected it to, due to the help you, and some others have published. Myself, and I'm quite sure, the other veterans who watch your videos, enjoy and learn quite a bit from the wonderful help you provide. THANK YOU !

You are a good man sir, my son SSG Nicholas P. Bellard gave his life for his country in Iraq, he was well respected because he was always going out his way to help others. I raised 4 sons alone and told them to help your neighbor when you can, I guess he was listening,according to all the letters and phone calls I received pertaining to his way of helping others. My grandma always told me that you will never get rich helping others but you will die a wealthy person.

Bob, love your videos. I'm a total novice at welding and find your videos extremely helpful. They've done a lot to build my confidence and inspire me to try things I might not have dared to otherwise. Your camera angles and content are excellent and you do such a great job of explaining things without a lot of fluff. Hello, I have learned so much from your informative videos, you sir are the "Tubal Cain" of the welding world! I just wanted to convey a hearty "Thank You" for investing your time and knowledge to those who wish to either learn or improve their welding skills. Best of luck in all you endeavor to do. "There is never time enough to do it right...But always time to do it again" "Buy the best you can afford, purchasing quality tools and equipment only hurts once, garbage or inferior tools and tooling continue to cost you long after the initial purchase" - Two of my late Grandfather's favorite sayings...

Thanks for the video Bob, to many people think they have to buy these very expensive welding machines to TIG weld and the reality is all they need is a buzz box, argon bottle and TIG torch. I weld off my gas drive all the time, its how I learned to weld years ago. you learn arc control very quickly when you have 200- 300 feet of welding cable drug out threw a paper mill, you cannot be running back and forth to the truck to adjust amperage when your welding Stainless pipe.
@blakereaser6777
@blakereaser6777 6 лет назад
By buzz box do you mean AC welder only?
@EastCoastWoodworking
@EastCoastWoodworking 6 лет назад
AC or AC/DC the younger generation will call them old fashioned transformer machines, down and dirty straight welding machines not an inverter machine. For AC on aluminum you can get a HF and your off and running. Simple and works great.

I learned how to weld with a Lincoln AC-225 back in high school. Did a bit of DC welding around the ranch with a Lincoln "Pipeliner" unit, but never really knew the difference since they both seemed to work the same for the steel pipe we were using for fencing. 20 or so years ago, I stumbled across an AC-225 on Craigslist and I've used it for a lot of things, including 200+ ft of steel picket fencing built from scratch in my backyard. There's some things that I really wish I had a TIG unit for. Is there anyway to adapt the AC-225 for TIG or must it be DC?

I must have had my old stick welder for at least 30 years and it was anything but new when I bought it. It's survived years of storage in a leaky shed and literally being stood on when it got in the way. I swear I could run a small truck over it and it would continue to work! It only goes up to 150 Amps, but that seems adequate for my needs. Several years ago I bought an almost identical TIG torch with a view to using it to TIG alongside stick, MIG and oxy/ace. I now have no excuse to delay - other than changing my Argoshield Lite (argon/CO2/O2 blend) for pure argon. Maybe have both? Thanks. You make it look so simple, but I think I'll find it isn't when I start; just as I did for the other methods of stitching two pieces of metal together.

Gramps was a welder blacksmith, dad was a universal welder blacksmith and i was shown at 15 yrs old, now what i will share with you is out there and you dont require gases or any expensive tig rods. first you need to purchase "everdure", 1rst get carbon rod, sharpen to point same as tig, clamp in your electrode holder, DC electrode pos, and use the eveture like any tig rod. hell i made my own short box by literally cutting 18 inches out of the box and frame, i used everdure, to weld the box back together, the rods are about $4-5 last time i bought.

I weld aluminum with a similar set up using an old Lincoln AC/DC Ideal Arc, the old 'bullet proof' last forever welder with the rounded top. To weld aluminum use 100% Argon, use copper to ball the tip of the tungsten electrode and to avoid contamination of the electrode always initiate the arc on copper placed next to the base aluminum to be welded. For copper a flattened 1" [or larger] hard copper tube coupling works well. At home I rarely weld thin aluminum, it's hard to justify spending $2K on an AC Tig welder. I also own a DC Mig with spool gun but it is best used on thick aluminum. Excellent informative video, thanks !

Retired Boilermaker(35yrs), I used to teach the apprentice how to weld "without" using their wrist or elbows to lean on. Lesson 1 show them how to walk the cup with the electric off, once they got the idea then I would turn on the power, just like the old timer showed me, learn how to weld without leaning on my elbows or wrist.

It really seems that way some times. Every time I talk to someone about somthing I get constant adds for what I was talking about and never looked up. Google, facebook, and youtube are working together to sell me everything I mention in casual conversation. XD

I was welding as a kid around my Dads salvage yard. Had a man show me a five minute how to and 20 minutes of what will hurt or kill you. Handed me 5 rods gloves and hood then pointed to the frame on the rippers. Said if you can get that to hold you will be fine. 30 years later I sold those rippers to another farmer. He has been using them for 10 years now. You remind me of him. Much younger though. Enjoying

Thank you so much I have cancer now and I was looking the way to tig so I can set in my shop and make things I enjoy now. That's the best way for me to relax now. One more time I think you so much.
