For everyone that has a 99 to 00 nbs trucks you have to engage the parking brake first then start the vehicle to do this. I had to figure this out the hard way with my 2000 silverado.
Tim Oftedahl, yes it's very odd because I had a 2002 and it was with the button. I also had a 2000 s10 and it was this same way, but for some wired reason gm must have done it with the parking brake on 99 and very early 2000. Because when it got my 2000 I thought it was this same way but no result. Finally I obtained a owners manual from a friend's wrecked 99 nbs and it said use the parking brake and I was shocked by this but it worked. Only thing I can think of is that my truck is a 2000 model but was built in 8/1999. So maybe that only applies to 99 and early 2000 and the rest is with the switch, very very odd that they would do that tho.
This was also the case on my 01 chevy express 3500....parking brake needs to be engaged, and it resets with every cycle of the power. Was there some kind of "always on" law during those years? I'd much prefer to just switch on and off. Anyone know of a workaround?

I have a 2000 Astro AWD. All interior illumination goes very dim. I and a repair shop thought I might have a bad ground, #3 fuse out, etc. A month ago, the radio, instrument cluster ( Most importantly, GEAR SELECTOR portion of cluster and interior automatic courtesy go VERY dim, only visible at night. Found your video this morning, and VIOLA! when your above explained procedure is conducted. Notice in video, how the illumination of the RPMs drops when the dome light is pressed the 4th time. I must have inadvertently switched modes while trying to figure out the auto vs manual headlighting some time ago. Though I work on autos for much of my living, it usually is tied just to the programming, service and troubleshooting of anti theft OEM components. I have an 01 tahoe and this works while I am driving! I was going to put a blackout switch in the wiring somewhere to go total blackout. Hence why I searched this. But then your video popped up and now you just saved me from an afternoon of wiring! You sir deserve a cookie! 🍪

Wow.. owned one of these models in one form or another for 25years and never knew this. I would shut off the ignition, press the E break down to the first click. Thanks for the vid you made 11yrs ago!!!
Awesome dude! I just bought a '01 Sierra and was ticked 'cause the headlights were on with the key. I had an '05 a few years back but it was OK. I knew a guy that was also ticked off that his '03 lights were always on. Wish I could tell him now. Thanks for the video & tip!

awesome video! Thanks for taking the time. I just bought a brand new utility trailer and when plugging in the lights i don't have clearance lights or running lights. I checked the trailer park fuse and its fine. Could it be the switch for the lights on the dash? I turned the knob to the top and still nothing.

You should check out the opt7 fluxbeam 880's or auxbeam 880 led's. I had hid's in the fog lights of my '02 Silverado for a little bit, but the chrome/aluminum reflector coating ended up coming off from the constant heat of having them on every time I drove, so I decided to go to led after getting new fog light housings
Hey Sean great video, i'v always wondered how to turn the headlights off. handy sometimes! I see you've installed an aftermarket radio. I have an '01 sierra and the previous owner snipped the GM plug off so i had the great pleasure to rewire to the radio. I had no dash lights at all then I tapped my illumination wire into the 12v ign wire so i have dash lights all the time can't dim. Do you have any ideas?
For the auto lights take off the right speaker grill and unplug the ambient sensor. Then buy a 2.2k ohm 1/2 watt resistor and fold ends down and plug them into the harness. Put some tape over resistor to prevent it from falling out. And the lights will stay off when dark and must be done manually. Now for the DRL's on the 1999 and older the only way to disable the DRL's is to pull the black square relay in the fuse panel under the hood. Pull the relay and on bottom there will be 5 leads marked 30 86 85 87a 87 now cut the 86 85 and 87 or bend them outwards and up then plug the relay back in and your DRL's are disabled. Do not bend or remove the 30 or 87a lead.

On the light switch/knob I have it set to the “o” for lights on, however what do the two symbols above it mean? The outward-facing icon and then also the light bulb icon? I am not sure what does what and so I ask because I don’t want to get pulled over for having the incorrect lights on during a normal night drive. Thanks so much!
Question, I have a 2001 GMC Yukon. With the car off I would set the parking brake then turn on the car and the headlights would NOT come on. Great for not disturbing the family sleeping at 4:00 am . Then with the car still on and warmed up I would disengage the parking brake and the headlights would come on and I would drive off. That procedure doesn’t work anymore. Any suggestions? I have a 99 GMC Sierra that has the identical inst. panel. Does not work. Any thoughts? I came across a few other options such as pull the fuse labeled DRL. Still on. Mind boggling. Only vehicle Ive ever had these on, and I really really don't like them. Its frequent Im in a situation where them being on is an annoyance primarily to others. Pull into a parking lot at a restaurant pointing your lights in a window while some one runs in for take out. Its cold out so you want to leave it running. People inside trying to relax and eat love it. So many examples of why these suck and blow at the same time.

Hi I have 05 silverado. The 3rd lite and cargo lites are in the same harness .the 3rd lite works fine,but when I push on the cargo lite button nothing happens,no lites . What do you suggest?

hey man I have a 01 Silverado and I cant seem to get the lights closest to the grill to turn on. Not the high beams but the ones below them. on my DRL function only the amber lights turn on in the middle. the truck is all stock and the bulbs look like they are in good shape (not blown).

Howto have your DRL on all the time during the daytime. Is there a "fix" for this. Where i live its required to have running lights on all the time. Most EU cars have this function or you can program it. On my BMW i just leave my lights on and they turn off with the ignition. (after delay, if you want) 2004 Tahoe
Hi sir I have a quick question to ask. I'm having problems with my dashboard lights not coming on.. on my 2000 Chevrolet tahoe LT. Well I'm dashboard panel cluster light comes on. But the only come on when I put my dimer light's on. And when I turn them off my dashboard light's turn off.. let's put it like this my dashboard panel cluster light's work. But only with dimer light's turn on. Pls help and thank you.
