In today's video I show you how to unclog a gutter downspout using four different methods. Over time, yard debris and other things can clog your gutters and gutter drain spout causing water to build and not drain.

I recommend using a drum auger which has several uses in the household and do not cost that much. You can also use a leaf blower, metal wire coat hanger or high pressure garden or pressure washer hose. I do love gutter cleaning with leaf blower very effective.

Excellent ideas. I attached a length of vinyl gutter, about 7 feet with a couple j-shaped channels at the end. I stand on the ground now & use the leaf blower to blow the gutters out. I've also used the snake to clear the garage gutters, being they have a couple twists in them.

I use a shop vac and all the mess is contained and not forced further. I have seen a person use a air compressor and cause a jam that then needed expensive repairs. Many places are getting away from the blowers and using the vacs for noise and debris. If there is any chance of debris other than leaves, light stuff it is better to pull the stuff out not try to push it through. I maintain gutters at my moms house and a three story condo building. I think this idea would work for seasonal, easy cleanings. Good video.

I have a gutter that's been overflowing and finally got ahold of a ladder to check on it. Not only did I have a nice inch or so of sediment running along the whole thing, there was a ton of leaves and other junk in the downspout. Got it clear enough to drain for now at least.

nice video. Your application makes it easy not matter which method you choose because you have such easy access to your gutters. Blowing the debris out with that atomic leaf blower of yours was awesome to see!

I stick my leaf blower in the bottom end, 60% of the time it's enough force to blow out the gutter, but not always, but if that helps anyone, sweet!

Thank you the helpful video. My gutters are two stories up and there’s no way I’m climbing a ladder that high. I put gutter guards on my house. I think it’s worth the investment not to have to deal with it anymore. They also sell those round wire downspout traps that you place over the hole so the gutters don’t fill with leaves. It’s easier to clean a gutter than a clogged downspout.

Good advice - if you can access your gutters from above, which I can't and I 'don't do' ladders!! Might try the leaf blower idea from below, failing that it's down to the pressure washer.

I finally got round to shoving my old Chinese leaf blower up the guttering, and it did indeed work for the main one I wanted cleared, but the downpipes here are square rather than round so best to use my Karcher on the other two. I was told by my roof leaf cleaner last fall that a specific downspout has a clog and that I should hire a plumber to work on it. This video real helpful in that an s-curve one story up by the entry point would seem the problem area. Thanks! I wondered whether snaking UP the pipe could work but think probably not if its one story up.

Thanks for the drum auger idea, we have one on hand. Working at the very edge of the roof is another story. It's a very low pitched roof on a one story home but still friggin scary. Ugh.

This video was great without the ladder. That's why we could see what he was doing! I do the same moves on a ladder. Accept change leaf blower to a vacuum and suck clog out from the bottom. My final solution will probably be bigger gutters and downspouts.

Thanks so much! I’m looking to unclog my front porch gutter drainpipe (completely clogged) with nails from the other side of the 2 family) owner put vinyl sheeting on his side and never removed the nails..just let them drop. (Real turkeys.)

hi Jim I HAVE a problem to put back a drain pipe from the roof to the drain pipe it will not go in the drain pipe I had take off found a tenis ball in pipe T the elbow. the pipe came out really easy but it will not go back in

I been in my home 4.5 yrs, and have water overflowing on my deck. I clean the gutters, but im sure pinestraw is lodge in my downspout. I feel a little dumb for not trying these basic methods. Im try the wire hanger I use for my bonzai tree, then try my blower, then run some water through it. If that dont work, then im purchase the anger tool you recommend

@@JMGENTERPRISES I got it cleared...I took a wire clothes hanger, then wrapped some bonsai tree wire around it, and pushed it inside to push whatever was clogging it down then spout. Then poures a gallon of water to see if it would flush. It worked.. I had my blower and water hose handy, but it wasnt needed...

I just had my gutters cleaned by a gutter cleaning/ window company. He cleaned leaves out by hand and was supposed to flush out to check downspout with hose. He did not use hose at all, as he was pressed for time. Said he tested it by throwing a marble down and since the marble came out, means downspout is clear. I don't get that as marble is so tiny. I checked bottom of downspout after he left, and it had lots of leaves that I pulled out by hand. Have u ever heard of this marble method and do u think it's sufficient?

I've heard of the marble method. It can help see if your gutters are completely blocked but if you have a partial blockage it usually falls through. Best to flush the gutters. If you paid this man and he didn't complete the job, you should get him back there!!

Yes I have, good old boy brothers. No I would not consider effective for a heavy rain. Downspouts with water in them are heavy and can damage a building.

#5.... after you think you have the downspout cleared... take a large marble, and drop it into the gutter, if it comes out the other end... you can sleep well at night.

I tried everything but couldn't unclog it. So I filled the gutter with water, got a toilet bowl plunger, squeezed the sides a little so it fit in the gutter and over the hole, and plunged that clog right out of there.

Your problem with all those trees is the gutter downspout is *too* small,and clogging is inevitable. A better way is to use a big mouth downspout attachment,which makes clogs almost impossible.

The best way to KNOW FOR CERTAIN that your downspouts are clear is to take them apart and inspect them. Blowing down into the down spout IS NOT the best way to remove the clog because it will only push it down deeper into the downspout. When I take mine off of the gutter, the clog is always right at the top where the downspout connects to the gutter. I remove the clog by hand, or with hand tools and 5 minutes later the down spout is clear. 10 minutes later, it's all back together, the ladder and the tools are put away, and I'm watching TV.

You shouldn't have any problems with your downspouts with an overhead access. Now imagine gutters 14+ feet overhead with no access from the house.

American gutters are the worst design. They are designed to clogg. The ones in my house in Germany have end caps that let debris fall out. I don't get why Americans keep buying the garbage gutters sold in the USA.
